  • That last one made me laugh, outside the Vodafone building.

Thanks for this comparison, i'm definitely getting XT!

  • Can you use the same number of your vodafone cellphone for the microchip and can you use super prepay like get txt 5000 and free callng in the weeknd?

  • @luxx275 You must have an awesome iPad coz I sure know mine does not make phone calls. And being a telecom employee, yes yes and no but cheaper calling throughout the whole week, not just in the weekends

  • the receptions diffrent for both, the pricing plans for both suck, but vodafone is slightly better deal

  • Dumb faggot xt cuts out the vodafone reception, having both side by side kills the reception..... Asshole

  • seriously, good but use a speed test aswell

    ;D

  • HAHAHAHAHA... Ripped off!! Ive tried mine out in lots of places around Melbourne & always get around 4-5Mbps (4000-5000Kbps) connection.... Telecom NZ, high time you took a leaf out of the Telstra Australia book.

  • prettty conclusive really ...

XT OWNS U VODAFAGS!!1!11!1! no offense ment by this statement.. only to vodaboners

  • Does 2degrees offer MicroSim? If so, can you test them too?

  • i would laugh if the fast one was just hooked up to the wifi network nearby

  • Some of my colleagues on XT network CANNOT get coverage inside buidings, right in the middle of town. XT has very poor indoor coverage.

Because of this problem , they are moving to other mobile companies.

  • @albabote How long have you been working for Vodafone?

It is proven the lower frequencies (i.e 850MHz) penetrate through objects better than higher frquencies such as Vodafones 900MHz. Can you please back up your claims with some of your own video evidence?

  • Good comment from 1camshaft7.

Also XT is now giving away free handsets to corporate customers to try recovering some of the lost customers caused by the outages early this year. On another note, XT is only a brand name!!! is not a technology!!! Both Telecom mobile and Vodafone use exactly the same techology: UMTS HSPA. There is no difference apart from the fact that Telecoms uses 850&2100 MHz, while vodafone uses 900&2100 MHz. Vodafone also uses GSM EDGE when there is no 3G coverage.

  • XT network may seem faster because nobody wants to use it! jajajaja. An empty network will allways be faster idiots. But hey, who wants to pay money for a network that failed 4 times in a period of 3 months??? and the worst thing is that not even Telecom knows what the hell went wrong... Risky business for customers with corporate acounts like some of us. I guess XT its OK for the kids and teenagers. By the way, 2 degrees is now rolling out 3G UMTS!!! That is great!!!

  • This was uploaded by a Telecom employee i would take it with a grain of salt.

  • I want a iPad but I don't have $700-$1200 to spare lol

  • Funny how the Vodafone connection at Piha is only on there reliable 2g network as the Ipad doesn’t do 3g 900 Mhz and yes pick the busiest area downtown for a Vodafone speed test that’s not bad for the middle of the day, wait till XT actually gets customers then see how slow it is.

  • I want one. As I am rather lazy would someone be able to tell me the prices for the XT and Vodafone iPad's please?

  • NZ has pretty slack internet coverage in general, wired or wireless

  • fake and gay

  • Did each have full signal?

  • Lol look at his username. Biased much?

  • just don't buy one at all... problem solved.

  • Pretty much the same as in Dunedin, Telecom XT just craps all over the vodafone network.. hence why i use XT..

  • did you just stick in you standard xt sim card?

  • @temuera101 it requires a microsim

  • shit i been with vodafone for 5 years. im gona save up for a xt mobile now.

  • Is this a normal Vodafone connection or 3G?

  • @Geistian normal at the beach, 3G outside the Voda HQ building.

  • First off who buys an Ipad?

    Second off who buys 2?

Reading Vodaphone's statement in the video description does lend a little truth to the video, but it also states that its only limiting the Ipad so I'm not too worried about the whole matter

  • can't argue with that.

  • This is great marketing for Vodafone!!! (in a reverse way). The test in the urban area (unfortunately not done during off-peak night hours) just shows that Vodafone is a bit slower than XT. This just shows that Vodafone has more customers than XT, therefore the network load is higher in Vodafone's network (with the logical reduction in download speed). Now, make your own conclusions about why Vodafone would have more customers...

  • @albabote I think everyone has missed the point which is that XT is much faster than Vodafone regardless of the reason! Cant wait for 2 degrees to roll out their 3G Network!

  • @albabote They have more customers because they provide services for everyone.. including retards.. like you.

  • @albabote you've obviously missed the big picture.

  • Am I the only one that finds it suspicious that the user name here is "Ipadroxonxt" and only signed up on the 25th of July 2010?

    Biased much?

    Conflict of interest much?

    This smells of BS.

  • lol get paid by XT much? haha mustve looked fucked up watching someone play with ipads in their boot with a camera....

  • VODAFONE NZ is so bludy useless!

  • @kamo2ceez And fucking expensive.

  • Vodafones 3G cover for NZ is abysmal. ...And if you're waiting on VF's 900Mhz non-urban 3G upgrade - sorry - not supported by iphone or ipad. :) LOL

  • @kentsmithnz - Good 3G comparison here; geekzone.co.nz/freitasm/7334

  • well done for posting this. Since March 2010 when the Alcatel Lucent and Telecom engineers worked furiously to un-f^ck a poor network design, with amplifiers and improved redundancy XT has been flawless. Finally the advertising from last year can be proven. Voda people need to sit up and take note. Vodafone customer service sucks harder than the Mangere Sewage pumps. And now their network is second rate too.

  • No suprises of the Piha results. The iPad is 850mhz not 900mhz 3G.

Definitely not ideal on VF in more remote areas.

The test outside VF is more interesting though. The speeds are simlar, though might pay to take a note that is probably the highest density of VF users in NZ, where you would be on your own on the XT network right there.

Regardless , your username loses you all credibility on this as your clearly in one camp already

  • no suprises at Piha, as the iPad is 850Mhz not 900mhz 3G.

i wouldnt uggest taking your iPad on VF to your remote bach.

outside vodafone. speeds are somewhat similar, though might pay to consider that you are probably in the highest density of vf users in the country. where as the network load of xt users would be much lower.

your username loses you much credibility. your clearly in the xt camp anyway

  • XT is a much better network. I feel sorry for the fools that changed. I can pull 32mbit up and down on their T Sticks. Vodafone doesn't come close.

  • The results speak for themselves - can't beat fibre to the tower eh? :-)

What are the Telecom prepay options for iPad on the XT network? - would like to use the 3G when on holiday but WiFi around the house.

  • bit of BS if you ask me, it aint hard to reverse the results in an area with a better Vodafone signal than XT... Telecom sucks, id never give money to those clowns.

  • @b34k3r Perhaps you could share with us where VF's signal could possibly be better? Right outside their HQ, in central Auckland, isn't good enough?

  • @Splntrdotcom In the 3G mobile world, users share available capacity on cells. the more users on that cell the lower the throughput. Testing next to Vodafone's head office would be an example of a high number of users - hence not a good example even though the signal strength is good :)

  • @b34k3r perhaps we could try, let's see, kerikeri, kaitaia, russell, paihia, dargaville, thames, waihi, huntly, raglan, te awamutu, matamata, putaruru, tokoroa, otorohonga, taumaranui, waiouru - shall we keep going - no the result will be the same right throughout regional New Zealand. Oh that's right, iPad customers only want to use them in Grey Lynn ;-)

  • @ipadroxonxt Seemling most of these locations are north of Taupo.

  • @b34k3r this is a joke right? 'cos I was getting a sore hand typing out all the locations for the entire country so I stopped after I thought the point was may. By the way, Waiouru is south of Taupo :-)

  • @ipadroxonxt I said 'most' not all :P and no, I just hate telecom, the phantom beta testers to the nation, CDMA was never a popular network, most carriers dropped it, XT will be the same, you can always rely on Telecom to change terms and conditions to best suit them. (as they do with xtra) You can shout out how awesome XT is, but lets not forget how much they fucked up, I spent time in Qtown recently, my vodem was reliable, the bro's t-stick was not. same in the coromandel over summer.

  • @b34k3r

Wow, you're not over that yet?

  • @ipadroxonxt

    LOL

  • @ipadroxonxt I live just out of Waihi in Waikino and telecom XT doesn't get reception here. Vodafone goes full speed on my phone.

  • @b34k3r Regardless of your opinion of Telecom, you can't argue with the tech specs of the iPad and the two networks. On XT you'll have 850MHz 3G coverage wherever there is signal. Vodafone 3G uses two frequency bands - the iPad will have 3G signal on their 2100MHz network but not the 900MHz 3G Extended network. In a vast area of New Zealand, there's no Vodafone 2100MHz 3G service. In short - XT + iPad = 3G everywhere there's coverage, Vodafone's network doesn't allow for that.
