  • I love U Bono.

  • pathetic

  • Bono save the Africa ?

    Why ? Why ?

    I can‘t understand.

  • Damn, this is a bad version...

  • What a wanker!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Go send a jet for your hat and relocate to the Netherlands to avoid tax, but don't butcher this.

  • @cynrig1 very decent of the pretentious, sanctimonious, multi millionaire tax evading con man to sing about the poor Africans.

Bono makes me physically sick. I have to mute the tv when the shit talking opportunist appears. I'm disgusted he's Irish. He's no Bob Geldof

  • @Ali74 His hypocricy sickens me.

  • Horrid......butchered, such a good cause and a great song, sang with no emotion.

  • Bring back Willie... omg it gets worse and worse as I'm listening to it!

  • I think the people likes the original recorded in a studio, BUT THIS IS IN LIVE!!!! Have you listened to Peter Gabriel singing this song in live?? It's no better than this.

  • Don't give up africa, try to help yourself beacuse bono is too poor to help u

  • This man here has done more for Africa then any one in this century for real!

  • Bono, I expected better of you.

    Alicia, I expected...well, yeah.

    This. Sucked.

  • @CrazyDiamond003 Nothing was wrong with Alicia in this performance or Bono.

  • @ThePianoguy89 And have you actually listened to this?

  • @CrazyDiamond003 Yes and I like their version.

  • @ThePianoguy89 ...Even though Bono's voice is completely sketchy, out of tune and Alicia is here simply to look and sound pretty? On top of that, it's absolutely devoid of the amazing feeling and purpose the song originally had. Such a shame for Africa to hear this joke of a cover. I'll bet Peter Gabriel and Kate Bush are still puking, trying to regurgitate the thought of their heartfelt masterpiece being completely shot to pieces.

  • @CrazyDiamond003 I appreciate their efforts for this cause, so I like how the both of them came together and sang this song. This is their version and I am glad that they were not trying to be like the originals. They made the song their, but I know nothing beats the original. I love Alicia, she's my favorite artist/singer. I don't think that this cover is a joke, at least their hearts were in it.

  • @ThePianoguy89 Fair enough, but I don't think their hearts were fully in it really. If they were, it would have shown more in the song. But you make a fair point to appreciate whatever effort they put into it, let's leave it at that.

  • Of course the original is irreplaceable, but speaking as an African child, a Kenyan, I LOVE IT!! we could really use a message like this to keep us going strong against all odds!

  • Sorry, but this is horrible. Both are good artists in their own rights. However, they just can't touch or even glimpse at the original.

  • the original is so much better.... :)

  • normally i'm constructive in my comments but i'm just gonna go out and say it.

    This is shit.

  • alicia was okay, bono was horrible, nothing beats the original

  • Bono is a great singer and this style of music really doesn't fit his voice. His voice suits rock more. I love Alicia and she is amazing as well! Both are great in their own ways!

  • Bono says this about the famine in Africa:

"People watch the stock values crumble while I think about our own sense of values tumbling because this will define who we are. This is a defining moment for us, and there's lots to distract us, and there's serious issues -- people's livelihoods -- not to dismiss the hardships that are happening in the western world, but this is outrageous. It can't be happening. It must be stopped, and it's not our intentions; it's our actions." ~ Bono

    RISE ABOVE.

  • Every time Alicia is singing, the doors of heaven start to open.

  • Zmasakrowali tą piosenkę....:(

  • everybody,wears,his,own,cross,get,up,it,i,do,it,with,my,rosary,jesus,maria,,im,not,katholic,soon,i,buy,a,small,one,round,my,neck,you,got,a,cross,graph,it,the,only,thing,will,gave,you,power,i,pick,it,up,i,m,ok,the,pain,is,gone,oklist,even

  • I love this song and Bono, but I didn't like this at all in any way. PG & K8 +1

  • good song

  • WOW-THAT SUCKED

LOOK AT PETER GABRIEL AND KATE BUSHS' ORIGINAL RIGHT HERE ON YOU TUBE. IF YOU LIKE THIS...YOU HAVEN'T HEARD THAT!

  • @lorddante13 Totally agree with you. This seems to lack depth of feeling!

  • Sorry all but Bono was rotten in this.

Have a listen to Shannon Nole and Natalie Bassingthwaite verison.

Great song, sad that Aicia Keys had to sing it with him!

  • I agree though Alicia sounds great...it's just not the right song for Bono though he's one of my favorite singers too.

  • bono cant sing , i wonder how the hell he still has fans and how the hell they let him on that stage to make a complete fool of himself,,, it was better if alicia sang alone, ffs...

  • @tereziaca Bono can't sing?! Well he obviously can if he's in the biggest band in the world. You don't front the biggest band in the world for almost 30 years straight if you can't sing. You're obviously bitter and jealous of his success which is to be excepted to be fair but don't make outragous statement like 'he can't sing' if you'll never be able to back it. Btw, if he's such a bad singer, why do people find songs like 'i still haven't found what i'm looking for' and 'with or without you'?

  • @LostLincolnBand hes a douchebag too, ask any irish person; he did have a voice when he was younger now hes more like a corporate rocker whose success relays on his past times really. if an unknown guy sang like him in this performance would you call him talented and the leader of the best band in the world? lol

  • @tereziaca Fair enough, this isn't his best performance but as someone who know's a lot about singing, not every song suits a particular voice. And Bono's vocal range has got smaller like all vocalist do when they get older, but the amount of songs he sings great, by far outway the one's he doesn't.

PS I didn't say the 'best band in the world', i said 'the biggest band in the world' which they are. And U2 aren't my favourite band but you gotta respect them for where they are :)

  • Piano Fail....

  • @AirborneEASY How if she played beautiful?! It is not a fail and she never fails, so...?

  • That wasn't good leave it to Peter Gabeal!

  • The piano arrangement is horrendous.

  • @arleco12 No it was not!

  • so fkn selfpromotion shit. You see 2 multimilionairs and one of the ritches women in the world (oprah) performing for Africa. This song originally is about a woman trying to divert a man from suicide. This song is sacred for many people. Plz Bono, don't touch everything, even in good intention.

  • Bono stecca

  • This is awful. Just awful. Spoiling a truly great song. And they don't seem to know it. Are they stupid?

  • self important Irish prick .

  • Hmmm... sorry. "No chemistry" is correct. Good intent, but seems forced.

I think playing the original with Peter and Kate on a video screen there would have had more impact.

  • @LittleMonsterOz28 Well this happens because you never listen the original version of this song. you should one day and then youll know what iam talking about. There is no Chesmistry in this duet.

  • i thought bono's and alicias voice would really suit this, but the arrangement is horrible

  • This is quite possibly the worst cover I've ever heard.

  • this is terrible

  • @DavyNail Pure opinion.

  • That was beautiful. Alicia Keys is such an amazing singer. Love love love her voice. So much passion.

  • Yuck. In the original you could hear the weariness and despondence in Gabriel's voice, alternating with hope-filled defiance and Bush's compassionate little girl voice and gentle chiding was the perfect compliment to it. You don't get any of that in this version. Just two at-best mediocre singers trying to replace the raw emotion of the original with frilly singing. Too bad.

  • @JuanGarbanzoBean Alicia Keys is not a mediocre singer, she had far great live performances than this. Don't judge her vocal ability based on this performance or song.

  • i'm not a fan of alicia or bono, but they are good persons...

  • What a horrible version!!!!! such a way to mash up a tremendously touching song!!

  • One of the worst versions of this masterpiece I have ever listened to!!!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • @GunKlaPPaZ Bad-soul voice? Her voice sounded very pretty and she was on point here vocally? What the hell are you talking about?! I hate when people like you judges someone's talents because it's not the cover you expected. She's an amazing singer, especially live. She has a soulful and beautiful voice and it's clear that she was trying to make this song her own with her signature R&B-Soul style.

  • @ThePianoguy89: It's all about respect. If I sing a song worse than the original, then I do not sing it. Okay Alicia has a beautiful soulful voice. But it does not sound good in each song. That's all I mean and I'm sorry for disrespecting her and Bruno ;).

  • at any rate they wont receive a penny from me any more.

  • @yomathu not really. africans need to learn how to be self-sufficient. they are stubborn and weak and economically stupid. what are you talking about? the europeans may have tried to amalgamate rival tribes but that just goes to prove that african are still living in the stone age. african are stupid people, they are financially retarded. how can you sit there and be the pity of the world while you have billions of dollars of resources you should be taking advantage of?

  • @ronnoc1990, that's nothing but ignorance. You're victim blaming. Learn about the players of oppression and who holds the power. Let's see how tough you are when the local thugs murder and rape your loved ones. Let's see how you like it when some tough guy online doesn't distinguish the thugs from the their victims. Yeah, must be so easy to be "self-sufficient".

  • man that was terrible

  • they have their hands in a chest of gold and the refuse to take any of it. instead they choose to fight pointlessly because of some stupid tribal bullshit within their countries. why should i feel guilty that i live 50 times under the salary that they could just as easily be making.

  • @ronnoc1990 Africa needs solidarity effort from the rest of the world even more than it needs money. The "tribal bullshit" is a forced deconstruction of their original "tribal" infrastructure thro colonial introductions. Ultimately, Africans have bn too screwed for too long to b able to help thmslvs, and it's the West's responsibility to clean up its mess. And since we are democratic, citizens r responsible, bcoz the colonial rape of Africa was part of the process that ensured our current lives.

  • @ronnoc1990 Sorry, ran out of space, lol. My point was: the celebs giving up their $s is a very simple solution to a complicated problem. The issue is not money but a constant flow of money- a worldly commitment to give and care until the reasons behind the "tribal BS" are healed: ie poverty. It took Europe 300 years to kill Africa, and that was the easy part. These pity ads maintain the apathetic west's sympathies so that gov't are swayed. Tax revenue is a larger source of $ than hollywood!

  • *a continent with THE MOST natural resources in the world.*

  • how is Africa ever going to do shit on their own and prosper on their own when they have these bleeding heart idiot celebs bailing them out all the time. they have to learn how to do thing for themselves. believe it or not they are a country with THE MOST natural resources in the world. The DRC sits on top of and unexplored billions of dollars in natural resources just sitting there for the taking.

  • @ronnoc1990 A) Africa is not a country. When the issue is continent wide, then it has to be treated a bail out. B) Think Afghanistan and South America- they are both filthy rich with resources, yet don't their economies resemble Africa's? Common pattern? I think so. When western infrastructure is imposed, their is a payment too- all the resources in these territories are sanctioned off to western corporations. They are poor countries coz actually, they own NO resources. We own them.

  • they fucked up one of my fav songs. No match for Peter Gabriel and Kate Bush.

  • interesting bluesy style, but I dig Gabriel/Bush original more hafta say

  • way to fuck up a classic guys

  • This version of Bono and Alicia Keys gives me no nothing ...... quite monotonous and boring. Much eagerness role of Alice.

  • the original versionis the best version of this song

  • Peter pulls off emotional intonation of each word so effortlessly, it's not until someone else takes a crack at it that you realize how much he brings to it. It's not like Bono's a rookie at this stuff.

  • inascoltabile

  • terrible. I don't understand why they didn't just get PG and Paula Cole or Kate Bush to sing it? They're still alive.

  • terrible.

  • As a big Bono fan and an Alicia fan, this version doesn't stir any emotions in me the way Peter Gabriel and Kate Bush/Paula Cole does. In fact, Alicia does well, but Bono's version just doesn't do anything for me here.

  • @LloydChristmas777 Remember U2's version of Unchained Melody? Bono actually has a beautiful voice, and when he uses the soul he used in that song and in the olden day "with or without you," he could make a person cry. I wonder what happened? I haven't heard that soul in his voice in such a long time.

  • @LloydChristmas777 Actually I think Bono's voice in this song is just amazing. He hits some wonderful notes.

  • I gave up after listening to this lol

  • Kate bush sung the song alica keys raped it!

Swinging a cat by the tail would sound better!

  • @atleastitsnotcrack, I disagree, Alicia holds her notes well, but this version doesn't compare to the original.

  • @LloydChristmas777

Hold notes.. maybe. My ears tell me shes a little flat but then my ears are very far from perfect so I am likely very wrong on that..

But that is not what singing is. Singing is ment to be plesent to listen to and not "hold a note"

What I can't stand is the wild pitch shifting carry that is not a natural part of the song and hence the cat swinging reference.

Still at least she doesn't sound like a fire alarm like katty perry does.

  • @atleastitsnotcrack She's not even flat! Pitch shifting? She's changing registers not the pitch. She was basically shifting from her head voice/falsetto register to her chest register. Do you even know what key she is singing in? She is singing in perfect pitch in this performance.

  • @ThePianoguy89

    Key?

The bitch blurtted out notes from E0 to D#10 (from 20.61hz to 19912.128hz) which happens to be every note in the human audiable spectrum.

Theres no fuckin need for it! Sing the song don't make it shit by producing notes from 11 different octaves for one fuckin word at the end of a sentance of every fuckin sentance. "you have freinds" was by far the worse!

  • @atleastitsnotcrack First of all, you have flawed pitch. She's a woman and no woman has ever been able to produce an E0 and the highest note ever hit by a woman is Georgia Brown, which is a G10, but proof says her highest note is an F8. She's not even hitting 11 different octaves! Are you a moron? "You have friends" was not even off-pitch. The only bitch on this forum is you. Are you on crack? You have to be! NEXT!

  • @ThePianoguy89

My key point is that the bitch uses several different notes to blurt out one fuckin word when any other singer would use the notes on the sheet!

    Read between the lines!

Number one: I never stated that the information I was providing is factual.

Number two: A goldfish can see that I am exaggerating to get my point across

Number three: I hate her fuckin 'style' it is aweful. There is no need to change the last word of a sentance from as in this example G-C to G-E-F-D-E-C or worse

  • @atleastitsnotcrack Why you hate her style? You don't like R&B? So you trying to put down her genre of music? You have faulty logic or just do not know anything about scientific pitch notation. First of all you said that she uttered an E0 and D#10. First of all she cannot even reach any of those notes. D#10 is a whistle tone. Do you know anything about the flageolet register? Don't try to change the subject because you were being fallacious and non-sensical.

  • After reading again I noticed you've also miss read mine (as I had yours first time also, sorry!)

I didn't state that "you have freinds" was off pitch but that she uses excessive amount of tonal range to produce the phrase. This to me is as pleasant as what I imagation being ear fucked by a bull elephant would be like

Moron? No, I can see when another is exaggarating to prove a point in a given example

The name is at least its not crack - so therefore I am implying I could be on anything but

  • @atleastitsnotcrack Her style of singing is a style that is used by many pop singers like Mariah Carey, Christina Aguilera, and Whitney Houston. Her singing in a succession of notes over one syllable in a line is called a melisma you moron. That's a musical style and she was able to have control over those notes. Once again your logic does not make sense. NEXT!

  • @ThePianoguy89

In this case I am very much so the ignorant. As this "melisma" style of singing I have not heard of but I know of it all too well and I'll tell you one thing it has got to go I am fuckin sick of it being blasted out of nearly every radiostation world wide all the singers you quoted to have used this style are the very ones I have a sadistic campaign against

  • @atleastitsnotcrack Then that's your problem, melismatic phrasings is a style of singing and a legitimate one too. The melisma is even used in opera too, not only in pop music.

  • She was dying to get that over with... slow down honey.

  • Wow. I'd heard this was bad, but I really wasn't expecting this level of butchery!

  • I'm a huge Bono fan but this song is definitely not for him (or us!). Though the sentiment is good but that doesn't necessarily mean you have to discredit an all-time classic.....

  • Wow. This is really bad!

    And I mean.. BAAAAAAAD!

  • They destroyed one of the best and more motivational songs I've ever heard... Thanx!

  • How terrible.

  • If only Kate Bush were there instead of Bono.

  • @hatmap = sociopathic prick.

  • При всей моей искренней любви к Боно - не надо было этого делать. У Питера Гэбриэла и Кейт Буш вышло НАМНОГО лучше, даже не сравнить.

  • dont like this version at all - Gabriel, Sinead and Nelson version much more passionate

  • sorry dont like this - prefer Gabriel, also Sinead O'Conor and Willie Nelson version, as they seem to have more passion!

  • horrible this bono.

  • WEAK!

  • The one campaign is not and never declared itself to be a nonprofit org or charity org. Any donations they receive are to fund their campaign which is to get Governments to increase aid to the poorest countries in the world. The person below spreads rumors when they never took the time to understand what the One campaign is. The world can't get anything done w/ that attitude. On this cover, they tried their best if its not up to your standards than too bad. Its for a good cause why criticize?

  • absolutely fucking woeful copy....woeful

  • Willie Nelson & Sinead O'Conner by far have done the best perfornance of this song I have heard. I've never been much of an Alica Keys Fan although I admit she is rather talented. But Bono Did good here. They should have got Obama to do Alica's part. Too bad the one campaign got caught 2 months ago that 98% of their donations were going in rich peoples pockets like that Witch Oprah and only like 2% was going to Africa.

  • gotta go with Peter and Kate on this one.

  • i love this version much more like original

  • shit

  • what a horrible version. they shred to pieces that great song. fuckem

  • @gabri3logiatx lol true

  • @gabri3logiatx roflmao right on target....fuckem

  • It's alright. Alicia Keyes and Bono ham it up too much. No one could hope to do this song nearly as good as Peter Gabriel and Kate Bush did.

  • Bono is too cocky and Alicia Keys over sings this song too much for it to be a respectful cover of Peter Gabriel & Kate Bush's song

  • I prefer Kate Bush & Peter Gabriel but I really like part from 1:37 to 2:06

  • I like them both as artist and I am a fan of "covers" but I don't like this version @ all

  • kate bush......would kick her ass!

  • dont like her version...he's fine

  • <3

  • very cool video...very nice song...2 great singers...but its just gay and corrupt first to fuck up africa...then tell em not to give up and sing songs about it...

  • Wow, I was following links from Peter Gabriel and wound up in hell with a hypocrite - the first time I saw Bono on tv my gut reaction was one of revulsion - that was more than a couple of decades ago, and here is that scammer still selling the shit.

  • malisimo!! horrible!! salvo por Alicia

  • i love you Bono

  • Peter Gabriel with Kate Bush is million of times more passionate.

  • @kinogomes1980 Yeah...but is not a bad version at all. I like it.

  • your head is up your ass, keep it there.

  • @dbCOOPER2010 you called him an asshole because he made an opinion? its his opinion....leave it.....

  • BONO is the best singer in the world!

  • Peter Gabriel didn't make the Rolling Stones top 100 singers list. Bono did! This song is only alright, but Bono made it something to listen to.

  • Oh dear oh dear. Bono and Alicia should leave it to the professionals. They need to watch the clip of Peter Gabriel and Paula Cole singing this song. It doesn't get better than that. Maybe Peter and Paula would give them lessons.....Then again you can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear.

  • That was totally amazing

  • Cant stand alicia keys, but boy is she talented, totaly brilliant. Bono is in fine voice. The woman at the end spoilt it by trying to get in on the act, but Alicia and Bono are in harmony. Peace to Africa.

  • all I can say is if you are listening OPRAH IS WHERE IT'S AT BUT TRY a moment on you own bewutched boyhered and bewildered

    and search

  • remember Tracey and what should be remembered! bono le cunamh dea!

  • i think the thing i like most about Gabriel's version is the arrangement. This aint bad but its missing many of those elements which i love. eg Tony Levins basslines and those pipe sounds. I think the singers her are fine :-)

  • bono can sing. Wow. He's almost 50 and still so good.

  • This version doesnt touch the original.

  • @HardRokMiner It slowly caresses the original. That's 1st base and by definition touching.

  • @metalrock90 Dont u wishh !!! lol

  • Holy crap, what a voice that man has!

  • @ElectricalVoice

Not even close to Gabriel, not very good at all IMO

  • @mikegustafson58 His voice is. The arrangement is a matter of taste, isn't it.

  • The RED campaign received almost £9.6million in donations in 2008 but handed over only £118,000 to good causes. Check them in the News Bono's charity is a con.

  • This version leaves me cold i am afraid but everyone to there own.

  • ooo alicia keys is so beautifulll... she fits good in this version, but bono doesnt... only peter gabriel is made for this song

  • good version they are awesome, stop whinging negative knockers.

  • DONT GIVE UP ALL OF U WHO THINK THIS SONG IS A AGENST AFRICA U CRAZY WE PROUD OF THIS SONG WE LOVE AFRICA WE DONT NEED ANY CHIRITY MR ABOUTTHEHAT

  • @990cappuccino I think you should read his/her comment again... it was directed at a particular comment, where someone took issue with bono directing charity towards africa, instead of to a location more preferable to the original poster. It was in no way a statement that all of africa is desperate for charity, or a criticism of anything, except for criticism of the concept that it's wrong for someone to be charitable to one thing instead of another.

  • The purpose of a cover is to interpret another artist's work. They did a great job and they worked well together. It's their own interpretation and they are not tyring to be like the originals.

  • It's clear this is forever Peter Gabriel and Kate Bushs song

but the interpretation of Bono and Alicia is good.

  • fuck off alicia keys.

  • @baldymort1 shut up

  • lov'd it

    thx

  • @metalrock90 excuse me? Bono's the best

  • @Jorindevil The best what? Because he's certainly not anywhere near Peter Gabriel's league when it comes to singing.

  • @xxMortanisxx Ur opinion...As I am entitled to mine and i prefer Bono's voice...Simply beautiful !!!

  • killed the song!

  • @misscharliebrown123

It's true... but I think that any cover will kill the original song...

  • beautiful. i must listening every day

  • it was amazing cover. sorry but i love this version much more. alicia is incredible

  • This is one of the worst covers I've ever heard/seen. If someone heard this version before the original, they would say it's a bad song. And it's not. It's a fantastic song. This just makes me truly sad.
