  • very good buddy

  • Can some one tell me how to tune to the F# note? I have been trying to tune to this tuning but i havent gotten it quite right. I dont know how to tune to the F#. Also, is the bottom b string (where the high e string usually is) supposed to sound lower than the F#?

  • You use a B string where the B string should normally be and you tune it way down to F#. Do not try tuning a high e string up or the tension will be too great. The string tuned into F# will absolutely sound higher than the high b string (where the high e is normally). Good luck, it sounds so beautiful once the guitar is set up properly. Dave is a genius! If you haven't already, you have to go out and get Big Whiskey And The GrooGrux King. Awesome album!

  • Thanks man, I've been trying to figure out that tuning for some time. Any other songs played in the Raised B tuning?

  • Oh, Sister, You Never Know, capo on the 3rd of raised B tuning is great for Idea of You and for Falling Off The Roof.

  • @dbrack81 ive seen him do whole acoustic sets without leaving raised b, save a few E-string adjustments to get the basslines to sound right for some songs. Before you try it you'll want to be familiar with chord shapes, positions, and esp. construction, with many strings tuned below concert pitch. You want chord inversion skills also for many of his songs, like crash into me. Easy enough to learn, harder to master. *Left hand aches remembering learning that workout, er, song. tendon stretcher.

  • looks like an ovation

  • The guitar is actually a Walden G3030CE. I highly recommend it!!! Thanks for watching and listening!!!

  • he does use diff stringing and not standard tuning .... so i agree with u

  • excellent!

  • Pretty good job. Whomever the dude thinks that he can do it without changing the tuning obviously needs no encouragement for his ego. Yes, it is possible to play it without tuning but Dave does do it that way because the balance of sound out of the guitar is only possible with that tuning. It's called ambiance.. and that can only be created with certain positions that you play on the guitar. That's one of the limits of the instrument.

All in all... technically up to snuff.

  • Thanks!!! That is really interesting about the ambiance... Cheers!

  • sorry but i DONT agree with the fact that this is "how dave plays it". I play this song perfectly without having to use a capo OR a different tuning... Anyways... a good effort

  • Watch videos of Dave playing this song and look closely at the guitar strings. There are only two brass wound strings, when a normal strung guitar has four brass wound strings. When it really comes down to it, if you enjoy playing the song your way than keep doing it the way you enjoy it the most. Cheers!

  • Yeah bro. Nice one man. I bet it feels great to be able to play this song as well as you do. Now, can you imagine being able to WRITE such an amazing song?!? One that millions of people just totally get into? That's got to be the ultimate.

  • nice the tree moving in the background is amazing

  • shhh... I'm trying to listen. He's good.

  • My bad...guitar strap casts shadow on the body...I must be going crazy...but GREAT COVER!!!

  • What kind of guit are you playing? Is it just me or is that the thinest acoustic I've ever seen?

  • U da man!!! Awesome job... DMB ROCKS!!!

  • Well done.

  • you should probably mention that you should only do this if you have two guitars cause it's pointless to restring a whole guitar to play roughly 3 songs, YNK, SoL, and Oh.. besides the weak everyday songs that are meant for electric

  • I think it is worth it even if it is your only guitar. There are a lot more songs to play like Sister and if you capo at the 3rd fret you can play The Idea Of You. You can also play original music on any guitar in any tuning. As for the electric songs from 'Everyday' are excellent in my opinion. The people who call the songs 'weak' are narrow minded and too weak themselves to allow an artist room to grow in new directions. If you dislike the songs, then skip them, there is no need to dis them.

  • I agree, there is no point in wasting ur time complaining about someone if u dont have to watch them....

    DUMBASS

  • great job!

  • can you give me the tab you use? or throw up a video teaching this

  • What tuning is that in?

  • Most people try to use a normal E tuning and capo the guitar at the 7th fret. This makes "Raised B" tuning on a normal guitar. When a normal guitar is strung: EADGBe the Raised B tuning uses: BEADF#b. This requires to use an A string tuned up to a B, a G string tuned down to an E, a B string tuned down to an A, a high e string tuned down to a D, a B string tuned down to a F#, and a B string tuned to a B. Leave the gutair without strings on for a bit before putting on the new Raised B tuning. ;o)

  • Cool! I have been trying to find a video of this song played without a capo. I am going to attempt to learn it, so thanks :)

  • Heh, you make a funny face when you get to the high notes. GJ though.

  • Nice. One of my favorite songs off of Some Devil.

  • awesome job!!!

p.s. even though i do comedy, check out my channel for sure!!! thanks :)

  • Thanks for the encouragement guys! I plan to throw some more vids up on Ytube because I am thinking so much about Leroi (dmb's saxophonist who recently passed away, in case you do not know). This is a very sad time in the DMB community. May this tragedy help us realize how lucky we are to be alive and to have the people around us. As Dave says,"we climb two by two." (Song: Two Step). This will hopefully help bring everyone closer together. RIP Leroi Moore.

  • we climb 2 by 2 is an ode to noahs ark...keep readin the line ull see, but ver nice.

  • I know that silly, I thought it sentimental to reference a song that Leroi played. :o)

  • This is absolutely phenomenal. Great Job.

    1

  • Really, really nice. Thanks.

  • nice i like the tempo!!!

  • sick man

  • Cheers!

  • sounds incred man, im glad you enjoy dave enough to learn his tunes :) keep playing, its sound great!

  • ill hand it to you..thats a load better than what i dish out..haha then again i just learned to play that song tonight, and i got it pretty good but playin it is one thing...singing while doing it, yea i totally cant do that! that takes skill to play and sing! great job! brave man to sing on the interent, you did great! that was 5 minutes of my life i enjoyed! thanks!

  • I am so glad that you are enjoying life. Cheers!

  • broo you really got it. nice. Ill try like you.peeeace out

  • Thanks man.

  • hey man really, really nice. I mean really good.

yer so what kinda strings did you use? and how did you mean that dave used a different guitar? peace xxxxx twas fucking brilliant. x

  • I am using D'darrio medium gage strings mainly. Some have a higher gage to make them more durable when the string is tuned down from its normal tention and some are lower gage when the string is tuned up from its normal tension. Read the 'About More' up in the right-hand side of the screen to see the tuning and the strings used. Dave does not use a special guitar, but he does use this the raised-b tuning. Thanks for the support!!!

  • oh right I see yer he uses raised B in loads of songs I've heard. thanks very much for getting back to me :) I did read the blurb but I only had one question do yer....great cover wonderful song and brill :) loves xxx

  • where did you get this tab? ive been looking for one and the chords are off on all of them

  • Is your guitar in standard tuning EADGBE or is it something else (B maybe?)

  • read the more information section. Peace

  • Dude u Killed it. I've seen numerous Ppl with this same vid posted that's not even close. I'm hardcore Dmb 4 lyfe, as well as a Guitar Player, Very Good timing and hard voice to REinvent. Perfect.

  • These comments mean a lot to me. Thank you for your kind words!

  • what is it with dave fans? why are we so obsessed?? here i am thinking it's just me....

  • i can tell u are from england [accent]. btw, nice work. wish i play like you...

  • It is interesting that you think I have an accent... I have grown up in California, U.S.A all my life. Thanks compliments and good luck with your learning the guitar and singing!

  • Nice work. Sounds real nice. It's never easy to sing like Dave but you do a good job, keeping within yourself. Thanks for posting.

  • thanks for the support

  • dude....you ROCK.

  • thanks man

  • well done - great version!

  • thx

  • finally someone plays it right goodjob

  • That comment means a great deal to me. Thank you!

  • yo can i have tabs for these?? or where u got it from cuz the only tabs i can find on this song are ones that need a capo on the seventh fret

  • These tabs are the identical tabs to playing the song on the seventh fret. Look in the upper right of the screen and see: " Most people try to use a normal E tun...(more)". Click more and I describe how I restrung my guitar to the same tuning Dave uses. There are other Dave songs to play in this tunning such as Oh, sister, You never know...

  • k thank u

  • Hum, you might be right, but I really think he's using Nashville tuning (or high strung tuning). It's just the octave strings on a 12 string, but on a 6 string. i've yet to try it so i don't really know. but you're definitely playing it in a different key than dave.

  • check it out yourself... I beg to differ. Also, watch some of the videos on YouTube of Dave playing it. You have great taste in music!

  • The key difference you are hearing is my guitar being slight sharp (out of tune down) a bit.

  • david blane or dave matthews

  • matthews

  • Ya know .....I've never seen anyone take the time to restring the guitar to play this is raised B...I must say that I take the lazy capo 7 way out as well....great job bro.

    Cheers.

  • thanx

  • you even sing out of the corner of your mouth like dave does...

  • People have always said that I have a lopsided smile as well :-) Thanx for watching.

  • never seen someone actually take the strings off and put a different tune on for this one, just see them with the capo. love it though!

  • there are actually a bunch of Dave songs (and other songs capoed up the neck) that are great to play in this tuning. Just a few examples are: Oh, Sister, and You Never Know. Thank you for the support!

  • nice guitar playing

  • thanx

  • U probley know but you can play it with capo 7?

  • Read my blurb to the right of the video and click on the blue word "more". That explains what I was doing. I hope you enjoyed it and thank you for your response to my video :-)
