Great live band! From huge coliseums to little clubs. This band is awesome live! First time I saw them was about 1983 at the Oakland Coliseum. Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow was the opener. Huge 30 foot Godzilla - spewing smoke and flames! It was great! Rarely know fact....On New Year's eve 1972 (maybe '73?), a band called KISS opened for BOC at Madison Square Garden. The very next year, BOC had to open for KISS same venue.
Looks like a great crowd. I think it's a fact that the 70's and80's rock and roll dominate what most people think is the best music ever. Lots of music in 50's, 60's, for deep roots, and for 70's and80's, all lot of people miss it and just think god most of these bands still tour if they can.
I love allen laniers quote-"we're crazy"!!!!!!!!! That is what heavy metal is all about. My hearing is probaly gone from all the guitar music i listen to.
I saw that tour with the lasers 1n 1978 at san bernadino....that concert stands out in my mind - for 30 years- as the best concert I've ever been to in my life, and I've been to quite a few!!!!!!!!!!!!!B.O.C. Rocks! whooo-ya!
I saw this on TV 30 years ago watching with my friend Lydia. I think it was on CBS, and it was a Saturday morning...nice to see again, documents a backstage look at a great tour.
It was on CBS named "30 Minutes" on Saturday mornings. I edited it down some.
The full show included Meatloaf. CBS came to document the dangers of lasers.
You know after Goldfinger everyone was experts they were dangerous....then they show they pyro and didn't know what to think. One flash pot was equal to 3/4 of a stick of dynomite. All of this show was safe, and my demo was to show the safety. Only danger was directly above the pots, and holders, which is where my hand happened to be...
Yeah, o.k. I damaged my ears more with single coil pick-ups through a 120 watt peavey in the concrete basement, and blinded myself more with what Mother warned me, than seeing these guys do one of the greatest presentations of rock, bar none.
the blue oyster cult is the best band in the world, i dont care if i go deaf, if i go deaf i want to go deaf to the blue oyster cults music. hey, lady who questions why the blue oyster cults need all that stuff for noise, A. their music is the best in the world B. their music should never be played quietly, and C. they just down right kick ass, so go fuck your self lady who questions the blue oyster cult!!
Funny that you mention going deaf because of BOC. I've seen them a bunch of times, large and small venues. Saw them as Soft White Underbelly at the old Summers On The Beach in Fort Lauderdale, FL. It was a bar, but they played at concert volume. All I could hear out of my left ear for weeks was "oooooooo!" Loved every second of it! LOL!
Just saw them twice in the Bay Area..Oyster boys kicked ass! They are to this day, still the best live act in the world....crowds went crazy....best songs...Vigil, I love the night,
Shooting shark, Harvester of eyes....the set list was great..both shows back to back had different set list...that is a sign of a great band....take note Van Halen...every VH show a carbon copy! BOC Forever!
BLUE OYSTER CULT kick major ass they still rock hard to this very day. B.O.C. are some crazy rockers they put on a good show everywhere they go. They did come off sort of wild and dangerous back in the 70's they were very effective at what they did they entertained and they had some of the best lyrics combined with their heavy guitar sounds made them unbeatable on in the studio downright incredible on stage.

Asking Blue Oyster Cult why they need pyro and lasers is like asking an opera company why they need scenery when they perform Wagner or whatever.
