  • Working at a small town c/w station in the early '70's, I really loved to play this song. Sometimes I'd even say "By request" even if it was my own request~

  • Just got through watching Anita do that on the johnny Cash show and it may had been one of her biggest charting records which she had several duet hits with Hank Snow & Waylon Jennings. She was a true artist that had a voice no one will ever hear the likes again.

  • Beautiful voice, beautiful woman, beautiful song! I could fall in love with the voice alone!

  • She should have been promoted more she is great! i am sad she is gone, we lost a wonderful voice and i am sure a beautiful person.

  • Lovely music and voice, I just bought a new cd with this family advertising a supermarket and then they sing together thanks for uploading this one of the girls from country fan in New Zealand

  • Thanks to all who have shared Anita with the world, and reintroduced me to her crystal voice.

  • Her voice gives me goosebumps,no wonder johnny loved her so much.

  • I had never seen this page until today, (5/6/10) and Iʻm so moved by all the compliments to my song. It was a great honor to have Anita record it some 40 years ago! Itʻs heartwarming to see how many people have enjoyed both her beautiful voice, and my song. Thank you all for the encouraging words!! And thank you to whomever created this wonderful slide show tribute to Anita. BEAUTIFUL!! Aloha from Maui, Pamela Polland

  • @peemer Ms. Polland, thank YOU for the comments! I have been a fan of yours since the second Stone Poneys single in early 1968! I was on your beautiful website before adding this a year ago, and enjoyed reading about your life and career. You have written the near-perfect love song with Tulsa County, and both you and Emmylou Harris will always be goddesses to those of us stuck in the South while the West Coast was happening! My very best...Chris Edwards.

  • @mugwump790 Hi Chris, thank you AGAIN for an even more detailed compliment!!

I have some new recordings brewing... I think if you go to my YouTube Channel ("Peemer") you can send me a private message with your email address, and then I can send you a sample of what Iʻll be releasing this Summer. Aloha, p

  • @peemer This song is brilliant, I listen to it all the time, Anita Carter= the best voice in country music.

  • @swansrule1 Thank you! I was very honored that she chose to sing one of my songs, and it's very special to me to hear that someone is still enjoying it well over 40 years later!

  • She was without equal. What a voice. What a song.

  • jesse ed davis' version is good too.

  • Great Thank You

  • from the heart.. love it thanks

  • that voice is just not of this earth! xxx

  • I know this song from the Byrds. But I almost failed to recognize ist. You'd say it's a different tune. Frankly I prefer the Byrds' version.

  • I taped this song off KVET around 1972 or early 1973. The tape disintegrated years ago; glad I can now hear it on YouTube.

  • Beautiful song; beautiful singer.

  • I remember her singing this song on The Johnny Cash Show as if it were yesterday. I tried to buy the single back then in Detroit but never could (Collins Record Shop couldn't even get it) I was able to buy "Whole Lotta Lovin'" though. Tulsa County was her best. What a voice! So sad she died way to young. Hard to believe that Helen, Anita and June have all passed on. Rest in peace girls.

  • Tell me this aint better than 80 percent of the crap on the radio when it was released. I just dont get it. Mismanagemnt?, lack of material, that voice shouldve moved the entire country scene......?

  • It is, but Late 1970 was a bonanza of good Nashville Country. This was my pick hit at WDEN in Macon, and we took it to #2, right behind George Jones' Good Year for the Roses. The whole chart was just that good. The record arrived in the same package as Linda Ronstadt's Long Long Time, for example. Anita was a family woman and that came first. We are very fortunate that she presevered for over 60 of her short 66 year life. She lived to see herself become a legend. She is missed.

  • @mugwump790 there's an aircheck of you from WDEN in 1970, oddly enough, floating around the Internet. I got hold of it and you did a bang-up job as jock (and engineer). Too bad you scoped out much of the commercials and news but it's still a piece of Georgia broadcast history. WDEN's still goin' strong despite losing some great jocks (Gail Daniels, Rick Knight, Jerry Marshall) over the past decade.

  • Not heard this one from Anita before - it's stunning. Good pics too. I'll gladly endorse the description of her as being one of the best-ever female vocalists. Some, like Patsy Cline and Judith Durham, come close, but Anita's voice is truly beautiful. The inscription on her grave, "on tour with the angels", says it all - how lucky the angels must be! We're fortunate, too, to have a marvellous legacy of her songs to enjoy. Thanks for posting. Phil from Dover UK
