fraps is better because of its ability to change fps and still get a nice playback, so fast computers can play up to 10 fps or lower, and people with lower end computers can set it up to 60 frames per seccond, camtasia and xfire doesent quite work like that, you can change the fps option but its still laggy, and fraps is a professional program vs xfire just made by a bunch of radom guys, also fraps has way more options, but overall if you have a fast computer camtasia studio is the best :)

People Xfire is way fking better. I have both. I didn't know about xfire when i bought fraps. Xfire is totally free fraps in the other the free version only give u 30 sec and u have to pay to have full version. so fraps is bs. i recorded a video with xfire it was really clear.

Fraps is pathetic, i can record fullsize Xfire with no lag, but fraps is just horrible if i record at 50 FPS i get about 5 o_O

Xfire looked worse.

The new in-game recorder works best. It makes you lag a bit, but once the video is uploaded, it looks pretty good.

You aren't horrible, and your graphics card isn't all that bad. Don't listen to these chumps. I play on a fucking laptop, myself.

@steveoondyou LOL. Xfire and FRAPS are great. They can record HD no problem. What IS the problem? Most likely his PC.

If you want top Quality, you'll probably need a better CPU (Quad Core or more) and GPU (9800GTX or 4870 and above is best) to handle the stress of running the game and recording video at the same time. If it's possible, record a demo file (google search Combat Arms CVAR or command list) instead, play that demo file and than use Xfire OR fraps to record so there is no lagg.

@BurritoCA make sure if you record record in a window and not in fullscreen or you lag so much you cant even move if you record if your playing your games without recording you have something else occuring when playing your games check how much memory you got in your computer or how much left and one more thing some games just wont work on other computers because you might not reach the right requirements but if you need anymore help i can try to help

if you have a slow computer ,, on fraps don't make the fps to 60 because it makes the recordings more laggy .... you should stay on 30 fps or to make it better ,, change it to 39 fps... i don't know with xfire .. . but i heard its a piece of shit , so don't use it ...

FRAPS came out a bit better, and it usually (always?) does. There's really only these major considerations between the two.

1. FRAPS can (and on many rigs, will) cause some lag in game, maybe even a lot. However, this lag has never shown up in a video as far as I've seen. Xfire is th opposite way, no lag in-game, tends to be some in the video no matter what.

2. FRAPS is 37 USD, Xfire is free.

3. FRAPS is video/screenie only, Xfire is -everything-.

I use both myself, FRAPS for video only.

FRAPS is great if you have the hardware to support it along with the game it self. XFire's lag doesn't show ingame, but the videos are laggy.

I would personally choose x-fire since there isn't that much of a difference in quality... not to mention that you get less lag using xfire.
