BTW at first I had to move my hips very exaggerated and I had to put one foot forward much further because it helps at first .Later, I didn't have to have my foot out in front, and I 'figured' out how the hoop movement works. You give it a good swing so it has momentum and then pushing your stomach forward each time the hoop is against it and your back backwards when it's hitting your back you keep it moving.. I found it easier to go more side to side. it's kind of embarrassing at first.LoL!
I am 48, 5'2", weigh 185 pounds . I thought there was no way I could hoop. You have to have a weighted--adult sized hoop..not one of those kiddie ones. And if it's big it's easier to learn how to do it. When you get the 'hang' of it, which took me only 1 day, then you can use a smaller hoop. I get better every day. I'm learning more control. I was trying to keep it up without dropping for 3 min.. After two weeks..I can keep it up as long as I like. It's fun and with music it's so addictive!
when i was in the first grade, i saw a few people hula hooping and i wondered how they did it. before i knew it, i was able to learn how to do it in just a few minutes! now im in high school and i still work on the hoop and it has kept my body in good shape :)
Hooping is a matter of muscle memory...remember you're asking your body to "do" something that you either haven't done since the age of seven OR you're asking it to do something that you've never done.
Tip:
- be patient with yourself
Mechanical Tips:
- If you stop moving your body (forward & back or side to side), the HOOP WILL FALL! you have to be in constant movement.
- Try hooping in the opposite direction of what you normally hoop; this has helped some of my students.
Hooping is really amazing. I've lost about 20 lbs in the last 3 months from working out with my hoop & cutting back just a little bit on my eating. Now I find that I can pretty much eat what I want & not gain as long as I'm working out several times a day with my hoop for about 10 min at a time... and it's fun!!
This is a very good video and a very good booty bump demonstration. I have not been able to nail it down yet, but I will try what is advised here. Thanks!!
I love hula - hooping! And I love you! Really fun and inspiring!
