I was once sent a 1.44Mb floppy by a U.K. government agency and told all the maps I required for the job (24? 25?) were on it "ready to print". When I told them that was quite impossible since they were tiny jpegs at 72 dpi they replied "We can see them on screen". I worked around but still got shafted on the fee.
Anyone who looks at a computer is suddenly a graphic designer.
when dealing with clients and they say "I'll get one of my designers to do that / send that over to you" and it's still fucking wrong, who are they using exactly? Client designers and real designers seem to be very different. I once had to call a client's designer and tell him how to change the size of a jpeg image in photoshop. Are they just using Malcolm the cleaner as a make shift designer?!
This reminds me of working with PR folk trying to get simple things out of them like logo files to be used on our marketing literature that their company was supporting. My god, the number of times I've just had a crappy bluryy low resolution compressed JPG or GIF of the logo. ARGH! I've only ever had a vector file from 3 companies! I was shocked to find out their PR people knew what one was, or maybe they asked one of their designers.
How about the "Marketing Manager" who says, "I like the ideas, but can I see some more treatments?", without giving any clue as to what they liked or didn't like about the ideas. I've found from experience that this type of answer comes from someone that has no idea what they want & can not make a decision. Or they don't want the responsibility of making the decision so they pass the buck to you by saying, "I don't know, what do you think?"
I've run into this when I was too as an inhouse designer, but people would try to send me stuff they "designed" in PP and Word. It was always prefaced with "It should be really simple since I already did the design in power point you only need to make it pretty" and then open it up and see a the sh*t storm inside. It was much easier to just start from scratch! At least They didn't use MS paint like another client of mine did.....
I have been doing print production for 19 years and went back to school and also do CT Scan at a hospital..I can tell you that clients for design are not near the assholes as doctors and patients are!!!

doing scans at an hospitals is quite important too. Anything that goes wrong there can ruin someones life.
Patients have all the right to complain if you look at how they are treated.
Docters are fucking nonchalant assholes indeed.

How can you not hate your clients?!
staaky 2 years ago 3
I know especially if they are mental and blame the designer for everything when they don't understand themselves!
cbarrass1 2 years ago 4
do all designers hate their clients? I usually lose my temper and refused to take jobs where I have to communicate with them.
