Although I feel the jack Nicholson is almost is more like the cartoon joker, Heath ledger did a good joker as in getting the psychotic killer side of the joker. Now, if you blended them together you'd get an epic joker
The Batman in Burtons film would have killed the Dark Knight Joker. The Burton Batman was based off the early comics were he killed people. The Nolon Batman is based off Frank Millers were his only rule is not to kill. That being said I think both Jokers are great. And we should look at them as we do comics. There different versions.
People keep saying that Heaths joker wasnt funny, Heaths joker was funny in a diferent way than Jacks. Heaths joker was sick and twisted, his humor was dark, sick and twisted, something that made him look a lot more evil.
Jack on the other hand dances around and uses toys to kill people..... sorry but thats not funny, that just stupid.
If I remember correctly, something went wrong with the Hospital detonation in The Dark Knight. Ledger was trying to get the detonation working or time it where he would press a button when the crew finished the detonation and he just had to keep trying to get the detonation to work.
But the rpoblem is you can't equalize and say he's better because they played two both diffrent person's. It's still the joker but Jack nicholson was more a criminal who is a gangster. And Heath plays a Sick, Criminal Mastermind who wants to take over more than just gotham city but also wants to show the mob that he is better then anyone of them
Heath ledger's performance was more realistic and something I could realistically imagine, he was awesome, a lot more sinister in my view, plays more games on a chaotic and social level
yeah, Jack wins if for no other reason than the beginning of the movie when the girl says 'You look fine' and he says, 'I didn't ask...' then look her hand off his shoulder. Awesome. Heath was great, Jack was better, not by much but better.
Is it possible to love both Jack Nicholson's Joker and Heath Ledger's Joker? I certainly do. I think both guys did great takes on the character that were different. I was in 8th grade when Batman 1989 came out, so ofcourse I grew up with Nicholson's Joker, but even though I'm 36 today, hell I love Heath Ledger's version just as much. Nicholson was pyschotic and menacing as a crime boss Joker, but Ledger seemed like an almost supernatural creature of insanity/chaos. They're both good.
When jack done it seemed like a big fucking kids film. It wasn't even serious. When Heath done it he was so powerful and he had that crazy kind of evil comedy when he appeared in the dark knight.
i like both but remember alot of acting with driected with differn artistic inent in mind....... also just look at the editing effects etch of course the modern film will look more impressive.
Both were amazing, but extremely different. Jack Nicholson's was a much more traditional Joker. His bleached skin, skills in chemistry, etc. Heath's was a Joker modified to fit the real world, and it was pulled off brilliantly. Jack Nicholson was a natural fit for the role, Heath had to grow into it. In the end, both were brilliant.
Ledger and Hamill both laughed hysterically in the face of death. Jack screamed like a bitch. And honestly, that IS the most important aspect of the Joker's character. Death is the ultimate punchline, and he can't wait for it to happen to anybody. Even himself.
Heath was evil and insane, but Jack was even more evil and even more insane. Heath was amazing but Jack is (so far) THE BEST Joker of all time hands down.
Well done! Great job. Two amazing jokers and don't forget Heath went to Jack for advice on how to play him, but he definitely made it his own. Can't pick a winner here.
Thanks for the fact about Heath going to Jack, I didn't know that. Nicholson is probably my all time favorite actor, but in these movies I enjoyed Heath much more.
@death2yoda Thats a myth that Heath went to Jack. Theres a youtube video of Heath saying he wouldnt have done the movie if it was anything like the Joker in the Burtons film. He said he created the Joker all by himself. He rented an apartment and took him a month to come up with the voice and his motive which was simply chaos. Jack is on record saying what Heath did was amazing and was shocked like everyone at what Health did with the Joker. I dont like when people compare. There both great.
Eh... boy, how do I begin... Well. I just... I'll just say it right out. Heath NEVER asked Jack for advice for The Joker! NEVER!!! Listen to the interviews of Heath and Nolan, and they'll explain how The Dark Knight was made, and what their work was.
@antropov80 Not true at all. Heath told Nolon he wouldnt do the film if he had to play the Joker like past actors. He had his own ideas as the Joker and created something unique, creepy, and based in the real world. Unlike Jack version that was based off the silver age Joker. A criminal dressed as a clown that went insane. Heath Joker was an agent of chaos. That was a psychopathic, schizophrenic, mass murder with zero empathy. That didnt want to be apart of a system but tear them down.
@antropov80 Thats such a lie, Heath NEVER consulted with Jack about HIS role. He actually checked out a hotel room for several months to develop his oscar-award winning character!!
I agree. He scared me like no one else ever could, he is my all time favorite villain. I love Christopher Nolan's work, Memento was also an awesome movie.

Until seeing The Dark Knight, I didn't think I'd ever say anyone can play him better than Jack. I'm glad to have been proven wrong.

Heath played this role better. Nobody never else couldn't play so great as Heath.
He didn't just played, he lived this character. I think he played himself in movie.
