@TurboTheTurtwig if they didn't have the backpass rule, every defender's first instinct when they get the ball in the box would be to knock it into their keepers hands. It would make it far too easy to defend. At the same time defenders could waste time by passing to the keeper, who picks it up, then throws it to another defender, who passes it back to the keeper, and he picks it up again - and the opposing strikers would have no way to get the ball out of his hands.

@michaelUNITEDKINGDOM Backpass is when a defender passes the ball back to the keeper via feet and the keeper picks it up it prevents teams from wasting time by having the defender pass back to the keeper then he pick it up hold then return it, whereas if the keeper is not allowed to pick the ball up he has to distribute by feet which keeps the pace of the game and prevents time wasting :)
