while everyone is striving to be politically correct, the Duke just says what it is

  • Prince Phillip is the nation's Grandad

  • I am delighted by the idea of Prince Phillip referring to police officers as"The Fuzz"

  • I didn't understand what that last joke was at the end when walking past the guy holding his hand out?

  • @Monarchos most likely any Royal is asked to be careful about taking a member of the public's hand, for purely security reasons, however the joke here is simply that the guy is not of the same class as Prince Philip and therefore not worth shaking the hand of.

  • @rowmarcus I got the impression that that was the IDEA of the joke...I should have been more clear. I didn't understand what was SAID right at the end.

  • all you yanks going on about john locke and thomas paine and so on when your country has gone to shit, just to bad!

  • @rockynanach That's exactly who we should be talking about. Our country has gone to shit primarily because we have done the opposite of Locke and Paine.

  • welll he's quite a character

  • Her Majesty's Most Honourable Privy Council,

The Privy Council, alongside the Cabinet of the United Kingdom advises the Sovereign on the exercise of the Royal Prerogative, and issues executive orders known as Orders-in-Council and Orders of Council. Orders-in-Council make government regulations and appointments. Orders of Council are issued under the specific authority of Acts of Parliament, which delegate such matters to the Council, and are normally used to regulate public institutions.

  • The United Kingdom is ruled by the Queen and her "Privy" Council as an unelected elite, which uses the Parliamentary System as mere bread and circuses for the gullible masses. 300 family Members under the Queen rule the British Empire.

  • And what the fuck do you know about the UK you silly yank? You have the queen as your PP, you have your town set as Westminster, and yet you're from the US! The country which tortures people! Locks people up without a proper criminal trial! Has the lowest education rate in the developed West (of which you are a prime case my dear)! AND FUCK!! The day Gordon Brown gets declared "President" of the UK, and the Queen steps down, is the day I hold my head under the water until that last bubble pops!

  • Prince Philip Mountbatten is a eugenicist who chairs foundations bent on the reducing the world's population. He is an "Olympian."

  • these elites are utter scum. and you who actually respect them, you are truly pathetic, or mi5 psy ops. the queen has no power? LMAO yea, these guys are just so loving they just gave up their power back in the 19th century lol gullible sheep

  • well said keep posting

  • No it was forced in the British revolution (also referred to as the glorious revolution) look it up! the only power that the Monarchy has is to dissolve the government if it is corrupted, and then a new government has to be decided on by the house of Lords.

  • you're just a small minded slave.

  • No, I'm just fucking educated. And I believe that culture sets us apart as a country. If you ever go travelling the world then let me know if your mind changes. Each country is different, and that's what makes them worth visiting, and makes them special, unique. Britain is special because we have the strongest ruling monarchy in the world, and yet we are completely free. The monarchy is part our culture, so fucking leave it, you just don't appreciate it.

  • so many flawed statements in that post it would require more effort than i am willing to project in order to address each one. i'll just say that you clearly display your ignorance and indoctrination (you prefer to call it educated) with your "we're completely free" remark. how about you try doing something illegal, like say grow marijuana, and annouce it to the authorities. You wont be very free for much long after that. but whatever, if you are comfortable in your little bubble....

  • Well, as free as you can be without chaos ensuing... though to be honest I agree with the declassification of weed. It all depends on where you live as well, if you live in a village in the middle of the Yorks Moors and the nearest police station is about 30 miles away then you pretty much are completely free. And that's not the only exception either, if you live in the countryside at all you have more freedoms.

Name a freer country, they are there, I won't dispute that, but they are few.

    Dan

  • no they owe 1000 years of tax and they cost more than they earn i hope i see them gone one day

  • They earn 5 times as much through tourism than they spend. They're worth keeping. London is THE most visited city in the world, it's visited almost twice as much as NYC, and a large portion of that is thanks to the royals. Please do your research before arguing any further with me. How old are you? Because you don't seem to be very knowledgeable on the issue if I may be so bold.

  • they need to go and they will

  • No they don't need to go, and so far it doesn't seem like they are going anywhere either. Why are you so against them? Do they, or do they not earn us 5 times as much as they spend? If you can find evidence against that fact then I might take you seriously but so far you haven't put across a single valid argument.

    Dan

  • they need to go and they will in a vote 75% of poaple dont want them there time is limited good

  • That's bullshit, besides this country runs on a constitutional monarchy, there'd need to be a whole reform of government, it would put 1,000s, probably 10,000s out of occupation, there'd be riots and civil wars between the pro-monarchy, and anti-monarchy, and also, Britain would not be Britain anymore because the countries are in union thanks to the monarchy.

    Dan

  • ireland

  • I remember the whole abortion rights thing for women a few years back, in Ireland it is illegal for women to have an abortion - I do agree that abortion is murder, and personally I would be upset if a partner of mine did it, but it is a freedom that we do possess. I remember a host of other gender-injustices being explored at this time, I think I'm right in saying women are generally not paid the same, but don't hold me to that.

In what ways is Ireland MORE free then?

    Dan

  • no we dont need them the country could have an elected head of state rather than a blood sucker

  • Okay, let me put it to you in these terms. Would you prefer Prime Minister Gordon Brown to be known instead as President Gordon Brown?

Actually then again you'll probably say yes, you don't appreciate culture at all, and probably envision that Britain should be like an America 2. Well I DO appreciate culture, and our traditions and values. And it doesn't hurt that the monarchy EARNS us money!

    Dan

  • no i hate capatlist nationsd and goverments and aim to change it and its blood sucking queen as well

  • lol, you don't even have any valid arguments, you're just hell bent on seeing the monarchies' back. Why don't you put your little hatred of the queen aside, and look at how much money they earn for this country, and how much they protect us from governmental corruption. They're actually a great asset to the country, not to mention their cultural importance.

    Dan

  • Yah - quite right old chap... traditions must be respected and upheld...

.... i remember when that bloody parliament banned sending peasant children up chimneys no less - it had been a tradition for centuries - bloody terrible, what else are commoner's good for if we can't send their children up chimneys?

Anyhow - got to go old chap, polo practice tonight... then going shooting no less... rather grand.

God save the queen and all. remember your place in society. rah rah.

  • Your idea of an English person is very askew, have you ever been to England? I've seen your profile, and as for your hole [We're being held hostage by the tyrants that is England] style rant - allow me to remind you that by population percentage, there are less English men in parliament than there are Scots, Welsh OR Northern Irish.

Chimney sweeping was not something people were forced to do, it was considered a job in those days, like any other, too right it's banned though.

    Dan

  • Less English people in the union parliament than Welsh or Scottish?! 85% of the MPs are English. Just like the vast, vast, vast majority of capital investments projects are made in England (and excluded from the Barnet formula) ...

Yes we're poor in Wales, Ireland were poor too when they were in the union and now they're the 2nd richest country in the EU - amazing what can happen when a country can run itself rather than being dictated to from a corrupt union parliament in westminster.

  • I see and the fact that your understanding of economies stretches as far as simple rankings puts you in a good position to say anything? Just piss off.

  • Wales is poor!? I'm from the 2nd poorest county in Britain - and I'm fucking ENGLISH! Look up Teesside! Britain is funded on counties, not countries, if you're from a poor county - then your COUNTY isn't earning much.

The only REALLY rich area of Britain is the area around London, and the South. Having said that though, EVERYWHERE else is richer than most the rest of the world's countries, and I'm grateful for Britain.

By RATIO, there are few English in parliament than Scottish or Welsh.

    Dan

  • @dan892k7 good

  • Aye, it is :-p. I think... though it's hard to know what you're talking about with a one word comment ;-).

  • Oh, and I just looked something up, and less money comes out of Wales and into Britain, than what goes in. Meaning that actually this comment - "I believe Wales will gain self determination within the next 15 years and my fellow countrymen will be more prosperous as a result.... " - is VERY false.

And yet do I think we should cut Wales off? NO! What BRITAIN did as a team of countries put us at the number 1 spot of the world stage for centuries, and changed the world forever, for the best!

    Dan

  • By the way... my rant is not anti English - I love the English... and the Scots, and the Irish.

But, I don't want to be assimilated into a faceless, multicultral 'britishness' ... or be forced to write 'british' as my nationality in government documents...

I'm Welsh, not british or european.

Yet, when countries are so assimilated by a political union that those outside cannot distinguish between them... that I believe is a sign the union has gone too far.

  • I'm pretty sure the English could have done it by themselves in all honesty.

  • In all honesty - I'm English - but probably not. I think it was the combined efforts of Britain that made us great, not just England. I think Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland should be given more recognition, I agree with that, however, the union is a fucking brilliant thing! And I think all four countries should stick together, we're Great Britain.

    Dan

  • dan i accept your not a snob i was brought up in a welsh mining town, but the monarchy are partly why places are not as well off as trhey should her and her bloodsuckers taking all the tax money that should go otherplaces so no your not a snob and the queen should be exiled

  • The Monarchy have done nothing wrong, therefore they should never be exiled, if anything, they should merely lose their standing as Monarchy. However, do you really think that abolishing monarchy will make towns like ours any richer? Yes, in the past it was he monarchies fault, but you can't blame it on them now because they haven't had any power whatsoever in over 150 years.

    Dan

  • they need to pay the price for the past actions of there farthers and mothers and thay need topay all monies back in rerspect of tax from the satert of the monachey so thats what 1000 years

  • They earn more money back to us through tourism than we pay to them in tax, so in essence it's already getting repaid, I like the monarchy because it's part of our culture, and it brings in tourism,

    Dan

  • Fantastic!!! I love the Royals for all they give us including tremendous comedy.

  • kick em' kick em'!

  • He is just a stallion....He has already fulfilled his function many decades ago....

  • *CONTINUED*

On a 2002 visit to Australia, Prince Philip asked the Aboriginal head of a cultural park:

"Do you still throw spears at each other?"

    What a fucking idiot.

  • i find him bloody hilarious =D

  • Comment removed

  • Ah Britain & their "superior" royal family. I often wondered why a nation follows a person & regards them as leaders if not for them being ELECTED but cos they happen to be born from a family line. Or happen to marry someone of the sort. Seems quite middle age, dont you think?

It seems as if Britain is still stuck in the timeframe, where free choice & decisions were unheard of.

Philip once visited British students in China & said "If you stay here much longer, you'll all be slitty-eyed."

  • We do elect a leader, the prime minister. The queen has very limited power, and so fuck if it's middle aged, it has thousands of years of culture behind it.

How many other countries still have a royal family? Not many, Britain just fucking rules :-p

    Dan

  • As Denis Diderot once said, "Man will never be free until the last King is strangled with the entrails of the last priest".

The "royal" family is irrelevant, outdated and a legagcy of the dark heritage of Europe. Next only to religion, it should be dismantled and forgotten. Future generations will no doubt be greatly amused at how we elevated people to "royal" status by virtue only of birth, while taking bronze-age texts as "gospel". We will deserve the derision of more evolved cohorts.

  • I disagree, I think the royal family are great, and I have two reasons.

    1) They bring in a hell of a lot of tourism

    2) but most importantly, if the government is ever corrupted, then the current monarch can dissolve government, and have the lords elect a more suitable government. An example of this would be if the BNP or Shariah parties ever got into power.

    Dan

  • Hi Dan. Neither are reasons to maintain an inherited monarchy which is as outdated and absurd as religion. Bringing in tourists is a weak & invalid reason to bestow hereditary monarchies -get creative and attract tourists through other means- make england a place people actually want to go to. Secondly, a country gets the govenment it deserves, if there are enough idiots voting for the Shariah to the point where they got elected do you honestly believe the monarchy would still be in existence?

  • If there's nothing to see here then please explain why London is the most visited city in the world, and Britain as a whole is the 4th most visited country in the world.

Why not have a monarchy? Are they harming us? No. We have more legal rights than America in this country, so obviously the old girl isn't too bad at her job is she?

Please give me a PROPER reason why we should get rid of the Monarchy.

    Dan

  • So you just answered one of your own points ... if there are plenty of other reasons to come to blighty, why have the royal family? I have already relayed "proper" reasons - we have outgrown the primitive "born into privilige" hereditary nonsense. It has stopped england progressing past its dark days. It's time england modernised in so many ways - here's a good start.

  • The royal family are known worldwide and they're a symbol of Britain, I see no reason why the royal family should be abolished. They don't harm anyone, and they've been part of our culture for 1,300 years, since King Arthur.

You say Britain should modernise, but it's that exact reason that people come here. We are one of the most modern countries on the planet, but we marry it with ancient architecture and culture. You can't really get this in many other countries.

    Dan

  • becuase there expensive wankers and they stuck up pricks like you and they cost more than they bring in we should do what russia did to theirs

  • No I'll give you that one. The monarchy ARE stuck up pricks, but they're stuck up pricks which earn us nearly 5 times as much money as it costs to keep them, so why get rid? Also, they're part of our culture, and have been since Alfred the great 1,500 years ago.

As for me, I'm not a stuck up prick, I'm a student in Leeds, from a small town in the far North East of England, who barely scrapes by on a student loan and learning music production. I'm as posh as mud, but I love the royals :-p

    Dan

  • ok io take back your a stuck up prick and say sorry but the royals need killing off still

  • You're a dick, nuff said.

  • your a snob

  • I was born in the North East in the county of Teesside, the poorest and roughest county in Britain. I grew up on a terraced street, had to share a room with my brother till I was 13 because my family couldn't afford a house which would accommodate everyone with their own rooms, despite my mum having two jobs most the time. I went to Branksome school - at the time it was the 18th worst school in Britain according to OFSTED. And yet you call me a snob?

I respect the monarchy, that is all,

    Dan

  • Oh, and by the way. ''Your'', should have been ''You're'', because you are saying "You are a snob", rather than "your [belongs to you] a snob". Get what I mean?

    Dan

  • @dan892k7 We don't have any legally protected rights here. No freedom of press, no free speech, no right to privacy, legal things become illegal under ASBO and far more besides. Even some of the universal human rights are broken by the shower in charge.

Why should we get rid of the monarchy? Simply put, the very idea that one family is superior to and should rule over the rest while owning vast swathes land stolen from us, no matter how limited their role, is abhorrent.

  • @thirteenfingers Obviously you are a dramatist with no real concept of rights and freedom, or even the role the Queen even plays in this country. We do have rights, or did you not vote last month? We have one of the freest media systems in the world! Human rights? Explain to me a human right, let's see if you even know what you're talking about. The Queen is a figurehead, she doesn't rule anything, she's a tourist attraction and little more. And she does a fine job of it. God save the Queen ;-).

  • @dan892k7 Did you read that post properly? I said legally protected rights. We may have one of the most free media systems but its freedom isn't beyond reach or taint of government. We don't have freedom of assembly and protest (SOCPA and CJA). Elections don't imply rights, thousands were denied their right to vote despite being at polling stations over 3 hours before close.

Monarch is more than symbolic. Perogative powers. Crown issues and withdraws passports, can declare war independently etc.

  • @thirteenfingers Our rights are fully protected by parliament, how else would you have them protected? You don't seem to have any real grasp of how our system works, you're just a conspiracy theorist. The Queen reigns, but she does not rule. In what country might you find a media system which is so much more protected from the government's hands? I think your view on politics is skewed and unrealistic.

  • @dan892k7 Parliament is what our rights need protecting against. I'd have them protected with a written constitution which legally bound the ruling class away from certain areas. We have no such thing. I'm no conspiracy theorist though, sorry.

For media, take the BBC, hardly out of government hands - paid for from the consolidated fund (i.e. - the government).

Then again - apparently I don't know how the country works so everything I've said will no doubt count for nothing in your view. Over it.

  • @thirteenfingers As for the BBC, it's funded by the people, not the government, and it is a 100% free organisation which often questions and criticises the government!! How can you say it's government controlled when on your profile page you even have a video made by the BBC which criticises the government at that time!! It's total rubbish! Now, I'll agree Labour took away a couple of rights, but we still have 90% of our rights, and the Con/Lib government are working to replace the lost ones!

  • @dan892k7 It's as much funded by the people as the millennium dome, wars of aggression, London eye, Olympics, QUANGOs and the rest. The licence fee is a tax which goes to the consolidated fund and the government decide how much the BBC get (more than the licence fee rings in, not that that counts for anything with the CF - just like Vehicle Excise Duty isn't ring-fenced).

"Paid for by the people" suggests choice. Try watching non-BBC without paying for BBC. State sponsored and mandated.

  • @thirteenfingers I like the BBC, I don't know anyone who doesn't like the BBC. If your profile is anything to go by, you also like the BBC. So what's your problem with the BBC? o_O

  • @dan892k7 I don't particularly like any of the mainstream media as they *generally* fail to do their job and hold the government to account like they should.

My problem with the BBC is that it is state funded and anyone wanting to watch any channel in the UK is obliged to fund the BBC - like them or not.

I think the BBC's news coverage is shamefully supportive of government but they do have some good output in among the chaff. It's the illiberal funding and passive support of govt that get me.

  • @thirteenfingers oh noes, £140 a year to watch jeremy kyle. bank breaker

  • @dan892k7 Absolutely, it does criticise - it's not like Orwell's telescreens but the government still meddles - for example, read about the selection of Michael Lyons as director.

Also see their almost complete lack of opposition on issues like ID cards giving, at very, very best a quick throwaway line that "some people aren't keen" as "balance" after trotting out the government propaganda verbatim, providing an uncritical platform for government but not for the voice of opposition. Suspicious.

  • @thirteenfingers And if it's anarchy you want; where we have total rights, and the government has none, then you should meet some criminals. If you give people total rights and they exploit them, then you'll end up with a lot more criminals. Somalia for instance, the freest country on the planet.... because it doesn't have a government! Or at least, the government is unable to establish power. Good luck with your ideals for a perfect government :-).

  • @dan892k7 We're doing pretty well on the discussion front here, straying civil - but please stop making assumptions about me and my views. I'm not an anarchist. On that minor point, anarchy doesn't mean completely lawless like somalia. Again I'm not an anarchist. I'm all about rule of law but it must be limited to preservation of liberty, defence, justice and so on.

We're coming from very different views... you don't give people rights... they HAVE rights and you protect them. Huge difference.

  • If she's a figurehead we don't need her. Let her form Her Maj Ltd and leave us to it. The land her family stole in the enclosure acts should be returned to common status too. France has no monarchy - Paris doesn't seem to suffer for want of tourism though. It's a red herring.

Human rights - space is short but I mentioned association and assembly. SOCPA and CJA abolished it. Clear cut right and clear cut curtailment.

"Obviously" - nothing's obvious from 480 char soundbites, wrong on all counts.

  • @thirteenfingers France has its own culture, part of our culture is our monarchy. And if you have love for other countries' culture, then you should respect your own countries' culture as well. Japan and Norway both have monarchies, and they are two of the richest nations on Earth by GDP/PPP. How can you really justify this absurd claim that we have no rights? Our country is right at the front with the world's leading democracies!

All you want is for Britain to be 'little America'... <_<

  • @dan892k7 I'm going to assume you're sidestepping the issue or genuinely missing it - I'd hate to think it was down to thickness but you don't come across as dense so I'll assume not.

I said our rights are not legally protected.

See the difference? "No rights" vs "not legally protected".

Got it now? I hope so as that's my third time saying it.

Little America? Where did that come from? I want a constitutionally limited republic and stolen land to be returned. Simple really.

  • @thirteenfingers Our rights are protected by parliament, and the laws and acts they publish. We are freer than the US, easily, and that's despite their 'bill of rights', and constitution. Just because something is down on paper does not mean that it is any more protected. Our system is working, why change it?

The majority of Great Britain does NOT want a republic!! The day 'Prime minister', becomes 'president', I'm leaving, I speak Japanese, I'll just go there. At least they respect culture!

  • @dan892k7 There you've hit on the problem again. Protected *BY* parliament. It's parliament more than anything else that they need protecting FROM. It is parliament (and the EU - but that's another kettle of kipper) that is eroding our rights - not anyone else.

I don't know what metric you use to measure and compare freedom, but the US is a mess. It's government rides roughshod over the constitution and goes unstopped as a rolling snowball. Not what I want at all.

  • The royal family is as much our culture as slavery, empire building/colonisation, grab-ass and so on. Most of those have thankfully passed into history. It's high time the royal family did the same.

Not a jot worthwhile culture would go with them. We'd still have country wines, allotments, moans about the weather (best climate in the world if you ask me), talent shows, farmers markets, local pubs, casual drug taking, binge drinking and the rest. (hopefully obvious tongue in cheek-ness there)

  • @thirteenfingers Monarchy has been instated in the UK for 1,600 years, slavery ran for 200 years. And actually the UK was the first country in the world to ABOLISH slavery!! Do you just hate the UK? What happened in the past is in the past, the things that are bad are gone. The current Queen is not responsible for that! And the majority of the UK want to keep the monarchy, and if you love democracy, then you should respect the majority!

  • @dan892k7 I give up. You're impossible to hold a rational, intelligent conversation with. UK was at the forefront of abolitionism. Clarkson, Benezet et al fought lifelong battle and won. Ever read Thomas Clarkson's 1785/6 essay on slavery? I have. I know.

That you've missed that I was saying those things have "thankfully passed into history" and the monarchy should do likewise and twisted it around entirely is strange. I don't have a problem with the queen herself - but the monarchy.

  • @thirteenfingers Yeah I can't be arsed with this debate today. Any other day perhaps but this really isn't a good day (or week). My apologies if I accused you too much, but I really can't be arsed.

  • @dan892k7 Finally - have yourself a good read about Tyranny of the Majority (also sometimes called tyranny of democracy) and see where I stand on respecting the majority. It's entirely possible to have a democratic basis without that tyranny, but under our current system it is utterly impossible. Understand that and you'll see why a written, binding constitution backed up by a system of enforcing the same is so important. (Lack of the latter is a large part of the reason the US strayed so far.)

  • fuckin leftards. If ppl like you were ruling britain I'd doubt I'd ever want to visit. Shut up and shove your nose back in the communit manifesto where it belongs!!!!

  • Dan, to keep the Monarchy b/c of tourism is silly. The monarchy should be retained b/c its an inseparable part of british history for a thousand plus years. No monarchy, no Britain. Moreover, a constitutional monarch acts as a non-political and unifying figurehead. Further, monarchs act as a check on men of political ambition. A politician can never become king b/c that position is already taken. We have seen what horrid thngs hppn in lands where politicians become kings.

    God Save the Queen!

  • Yeah, I agree with you here - I only used tourism because I knew most the people on here don't care about Britain or its history. From a purely business point of view - the monarchy has earned it's place - but even despite that, they're an integral part our history, and those people who think it should be dissolved obviously know very little about their own argument, their country, and their history.

I commend you for telling it as it is B21983 ;-)

    Dan

  • I myself am a natural born man and I live on planet earth, I do not see why I have to move around on the planet I was born on from continent to continent with a passport issued by a global rich elite telling me what I ca do and where I can go, the countries are there to divide humanity and what a great job they have done. I am against one world government also against the seperation of borders, who the hell are they anyway to tell me that they have the right to allow me movement on this planet

  • I'v never seen UK royal family show before. Is this dubbed or his real voice?

  • your very funny.

  • this is hillarious

  • hilarious!
