Ironcially I have this Vinyl LP in my Chopin Collection. Not only do I have this veriosn but but four different recordings by other pianists, and this is as good as it gets.
@steinwaygrande1 Yep, I have them too. These are the very earliest works of Pogorelich. I was working in the audio field in Cape Town, South Africa and I used these works to demonstrate the equipment I sold.
Now do you understand why we love Pogorelich so much? There were times when you could not fault him. This was one of those times. Once again, thank you for your lovely and informative comments. (*_*)
I will go and answer your comments under Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto.
@Afrikitty I still prefer Van Cliburn as I have his orginal recording that was done in RUssia in 1950 something when Nikita Kruschev was then the Communist Leader. Even he too appluded and said something to the effct that Van CIiburn was exceptinal and deserved to won the Tchaikovski International Piano Competition . I am of the opinion for whats its worth that he set the standard and bench mark for how it should be played. You still in Cape Town ??
@Afrikitty Pogorelich is amazing in this one, especially the Larghetto is outstanding, absolutely brillant. Many thanks friend it absolutely made my day. Cheers from Italy.
just a question i have.... i know this might seem irrelevent, but ivo and the conductor look pissed off in this cd cover.... anyway.... just a thought
I think it's known as the "austerity of his craft". Ivo Pogorelich is Croatian, if my memory serves me correctly. He has always been an enigma in his field. A very eccentric man.
With a user-name like yours, could you not guess? 30 minutes is a long time to sit a-squinting at a man, wondering whether he is Arthur or Martha. LOL His name is Ivo Pogorelich.
I'm glad you enjoyed the performance. I have another one - it is Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto #1. You would be even more baffled looking at the picture on THAT one. You made my day with your comment. :-)
You are, most certainly entitled to your opinion regarding this pianist, who, by the way, is a GENIUS on this instrument.
I have always maintained that there is no in-between when people listen to Ivo Pogorelich - they either love him, or they hate him. It would seem that you fall into the latter category.
ok I'll try to explain: orchestra is too heavy: it's chopin, seems rimsky korsakov o somthing like this. Pianist doesn't play in tempo, has an awful sound, legato doesn't exist, his musical idea is clear but there is no musical sense and respect to the composer, it's seems that the pianist is interested only in himself and not to the music he is playing, but we are interested in chopin concerto not in pogorelich concerto, and nothing is so far from genius like this way of playing music.
Why always compare, compare, compare??? You may like Pogorelich' play or not (I adore his play!), but you just can't compare him to any other pianist! Please stop doing this.
Many thanks for posting by the way, and could you please post his Scriabin sonatas???? :-)
@Erik83474 I hear what you're saying, however, this is the life of the Classical music lover. We sit and whine over who is better than who, and if we are the snooty audiophile, we are ten times worse, because our audio systems have to be able to pick up the sound of the hanky dropping while the orchestra is playing. Do you understand this? It's called "making conversation".
I am glad you liked my posts. I will look into posting Pogorelich's Scriabin Sonata's for you, but my CDs are in storage.
@czarnalama I have heard Krystian Zimerman, but do you really think Pogorelich is too fast? Zimmerman does not have Pogorelich's passion, and that is what I am after. Also, I find Zimerman a bit inconsistent in some areas. I think he is trying to keep it interesting, but I like to lie back and listen to an even and a passionate piano. Ivo Pogorelich gives me that in spades. :-)
@Afrikitty Zimerman is a magician.When he play i have music orgasm.When i hear Pogorelich(he also is good)i don't have the same fellings.Sorry for my bad English,i'm pole.

Yes I have heard Krystian Zimerman do this great Concerto. Ivo Pogorelich has always ended up being my favourite pianist. Zimerman is much slower and I am not averse to his interpretation of Tchaikovsky's 2nd Piano Concerto. In certain moods I can handle him, but MY personal choice has ALWAYS been Pogorelich.
Pogorelich has always been a highly controversial pianist. You either love the man and his work, or you hate him, There is no in between with Pogorelich. :-)
@Afrikitty Sure, it's a matter of taste. But i don't hate Pogo,i admire any kind of pianist and my favourite is Zimerman .See for example Chopin Ballade in g-minor in his performance and you'll understand- why.
@czarnalama You want me to listen to Zimerman playing Chopin's Ballade in G Minor? I don't have it in my collection, but I will look and see if I can find a video on YouTube. I will come back to you on that one. You really do like this pianist, I see. :-)
The world would be a strange place if we all liked the same styles in music. :-)

All three movements are incorporated into this video. This is the complete Piano Concerto.
Frederic Chopin's Piano Concerto No. 2
1. Piano Concerto No. 2 in F Minor, Op. 21: I. Maestoso
2. Piano Concerto No. 2 in F Minor, Op. 21: II. Larghetto
3. Piano Concerto No. 2 in F Minor, Op. 21: III. Allegro Vivace
1st movement, Maestoso, starts at beginning.
2nd movement, Larghetto, starts at 13:54
3rd Movement, Allegro Vivace. starts at 23:56
I left the Concerto whole for convenience.
