I just can't see how I can afford it. If I work, I pay for others to get healthcare, if I don't work, I will get it for free.
Most of the people that are uninsured in this country have jobs. So it's mostly employed people that universal health care helps out, not bums. And if you are just making enough money to provide for your family, then chances are your tax burden won't be as high as someone who has plenty of money to spare. Under any of these candidates the tax burden for the working/middle class will be mostly lowered, not increased.
it's cheaper than paying for insurance. You aren't the only one paying, so are many other people. It's a humane support system to make sure every gets the care they need. Works excellent in Canada, UK, France, etc. So it should not be feared in the richest and most powerful nation.
I wouldn't say it works excellent in these other countries. The tax rates in all of them are far higher than in the U.S., largely in part due to "universal" health care. They're also bankrupt programs (not that that ever stops government programs from running). The UK has even suggested rationing health care due to lack of supply. And rich Canadians flock to the U.S. for any kind of special treatment beyond a yearly check-up.
How can healthcare be free. Will Doctors and Nurses work for free. Will lab techs and xray techs work for free. Will the hospital be given free electricity, water, rent? Will the drug companies give their medicine out for free? I know no matter what anybody says I will wind up paying for healthcare, yours and mine.

Not all of Canada is the same. There is more than one Providence you know. It isn't just British Columbia and Quebec. Most of the federal subsidies for health care go to those over 65, meaning that less of the money is spent on preventative medicine (diabetes, dentistry, etc). A thousand dollars spent on health care when a person in young is better spent than ten thousand dollars when older.

The bottom line is that doctors don't want socialized medicine--another flawed health care system like Medicare. Medicare is already going bankrupt and not quality care. What happened to transparency? Private health insurance is a private tyranny that only exists in United States. It's a rather barbaric system that tells you you're health is only worth what you can afford.
People in United States should get behind, and support, HR 676. If you don't know what it is learn about it! GM & Ford are going bankrupt because of the rising cost of health care. If United States had single-payer system, the companies wouldn't have to worry about it.

Well, we should start with some kind of government program, and squander as much tax dollars as we can on it. Then, when that doesn't work blame republicans for it's failure. If at all possible, we should try to lower living standards for the entire country so old people can be assured health care when they are going to die anyway, at the cost of several hundred thousand of tax payer dollars. It's really cold but it's true, we cannot afford this.

I have a hard time paying for me and my family. How am I going to afford to pay for other peoples healthcare? I think the funding will come from the pockets of people that work, that would be me. I just can't see how I can afford it. If I work, I pay for others to get healthcare, if I don't work, I will get it for free.

Most of the people that are uninsured in this country have jobs. So it's mostly employed people that universal health care helps out, not bums. And if you are just making enough money to provide for your family, then chances are your tax burden won't be as high as someone who has plenty of money to spare. Under any of these candidates the tax burden for the working/middle class will be mostly lowered, not increased.

it's cheaper than paying for insurance. You aren't the only one paying, so are many other people. It's a humane support system to make sure every gets the care they need. Works excellent in Canada, UK, France, etc. So it should not be feared in the richest and most powerful nation.

I wouldn't say it works excellent in these other countries. The tax rates in all of them are far higher than in the U.S., largely in part due to "universal" health care. They're also bankrupt programs (not that that ever stops government programs from running). The UK has even suggested rationing health care due to lack of supply. And rich Canadians flock to the U.S. for any kind of special treatment beyond a yearly check-up.

Free Healthcare (Universal) don't work. What a politician won't tell you is that in those countries that have free/universal healthcare, ask canadians, have a shortage of doctors because they don't get paid like they do in the US. So, they come here to get paid. So, if you want a functioning free/universal healthcare system you best pay those doctors damn good or else they won't work trust me.

Not all of Canada is the same. There is more than one Providence you know. It isn't just British Columbia and Quebec. You might be very privelaged with a lot of doctors and a lot of people, meaning a lot of taxes in your area. Paying your doctors damn good money. Most of Canada has low pop density meanig not as many doctors and not as many taxes and not paying doctors damn good money.

Most of the federal subsidies for health care go to those over 65, meaning that less of the money is spent on preventative medicine (diabetes, dentistry, etc). A thousand dollars spent on health care when a person in young is better spent than ten thousand dollars when older.

Yea Kucinich seems to be decent canidate too, I would be ok with him in office so Vote for Kucinich, Mike Gravel or Ron Paul in 2008!
But I really think we may all need to vote for the same person or risk getting some a-hole in office. Right now I think Ron Paul has the best chance. It would be neat to see Ron Paul take a Kucinich or Gravel as a vis pres.

The U.S. treats its citizen like the children who are dying of AIDS in Africa: we profit off their death and suffering and pretend it's not happening, as if we were not involved. I'm for Obama, but this video makes me sick: a room full of politicians talking our ears off, saying "we need to do more than just talk." None of them could say "this is what I've done for health care." It's all just a bunch of campaign promises. I'll believe it when I see it.

Hmm... I'm a Democrat and I usually don't say things like this, but in the case of people who are quite obviously overweight and inactive, there has to be some role for personal responsibility in health care, rather than expecting to live however we like and have the President fix everything. Having said that, I support universal health care as a basic right for all Americans.

Im Canadian and i pay 14% on taxes of every purchase i make and this gives me free health care. I dont see why americans just pay a little more on taxes so they can recieve a better health care system.

If doctors can't compete with each other over profit, then they have no incentives to improve themselves. You want them competing over us without becoming even more impersonal cause now they get this government salary that pays them the same regardless of results.

This debate is really inconsistent one minute were the riches nation next minute were going bankrupt. As far as Socialize medicine goes it doesn't work. The reason why the wealthy in France ( which has the best health care system)U.K, Germany etc... come here is because it there is no quality care. The government can't afford to cover our entire country.And the insurance companies have to much power for anything to change.

to be honest: This debate is just fake. Dont you see how incredibly blunt all of those candidates adress personal feelings. Calling this random show a debate is ridiculous. It seems as if none of them has a PLAN that he can back up. Health Care is the most discussed subject in current politics because of demographic change, and it serves perfectly as a ground for a display of the incapability of politicians.

We don't even have a common vocabulary to begin debating this issue.
Health Insurance is not the same as Health Care but politicians use the terms interchangably.
How many "uninsured" are young, healthy and have cable TV and a cell phone -- they have made a personal values choice.
When someone says "Affordable" they usually mean: I don't care what it costs as long as someone else pays for it.

WOW! John Edwards is such a disgrace. He sits on a pledge to change our health care system when he destroyed this system to what it is today. He was one of those slimy lawyers who sued countless doctors on "malpractice" suits day in and day out. He now is worth millions because of that and Americans have to deal with the skyrocketing cost of care.
