@mckenzie125, lastly. The environment, honda claims 4 strokes are cleaner than 2 strokes. When comparing racers, this is a lie. There is not, nor ever has been testing for closed course racing. If there was, the 4 stroke's would be AS dirty as 2 stroke's. Did you know that 1 week of F1 racing pollutes more than an entire season of 2 strokers ever did? And who makes EVERY F1 engine? I'll give you one guess. The switch is only to sell parts. To make it work, honda needs unfair rules and followers.
@mckenzie125, For one reason only. And it's NOT for the reasons they claim. First the facts, honda made 167 million last year in 4 stroke mx top end parts, they didn't match that in 14 years of 2 stroke mxer's. It's that simple. They claim, the switch from 2 stroke to 4 stroke was for safety and the environment. I'll address both. In regards to safety, how many 500cc 2 stroke riders died in 30 years of 2 stroke racers? 1 did. How may died with 4 strokes in TEN years? 3 did and all on honda's.
@mckenzie125, You seriously asking this? I find it so interesting that the people who defend honda and the 4 stroke agenda do it without doing any homework. First off, honda has spent billions (yes with a B) to make sure 2 strokes can't compete equally with 4 strokes. If 4 strokes are superior, why are they making sure these rules are in place? Why did honda tell the AMA and the FIM, that if the rules were made fair, they (honda) would leave and take millions of advertising dollars with them?
@nomynuss, it's an oddity, it appears some mfgr's struggle with small bore 2 strokes fuel injection ( Aprilia is one ) systems but, others with scooters, etc. don't. The DiTech system used by Bombardier is a great system, well tested and well engineered. Until everyone gets on board with a semi standardized system similar to Bombardiers, stay away from fuel injections on smokers. I would recommend continue using carbureted bikes, especially if the jetting is on and you use good oil.
Yes it is available. It is being done by Suter and many others. As far as mainstream manufacturers, not yet. They are all in with the 4 stroke agenda and to go "back" to old school 2 strokes ( at this stage ) would show weakness. But there are guys who make EFI for smokers, check out twostrokemotocross and scroll down the page until you see the article titled "Ditching your carb for digital fuel injection" for one as well as others. This is also happening in the sled world and outboards.
@Winterstellar, you are referring to Bimota's mighty V-twin 500 called a V-Due. It is pronounced: Vee Doo Ay, it had fantastic potential but there were 2 major issue's with it. There was an electrical glitch, an easy fix but the real killer was that they had cyl's that were not matched to the right cases, this caused violent powerbands on some and 1/4 of their power on others. It is such a shame that the problems it had were not indicative of it being a 2 stroke. Just bad production practices.
IT's a Suzuki 500 in a Aprilia frame? OK..but you can bore and stroke the Aprilia to 400 too, you know. (Or bore and stroke the Suzuki to 680 and THEN put it in the Aprilia frame! Wow, that would be something super awesome!:)
@eifspicer, E-Tec is Evinrude's version of DFI, or digital fuel injection. It is highly advanced and is doing fantastic things in the outboard industry, the snowmobile industry and is being looked at for using in quads, scooters and possibly motorcycles. In the snowmobile and outboard industries, E-Tec is setting economy records, longevity records and uses a percentage of injection oil as it's carbureted brothers. It is the HOLY GRAIL for 2 strokes. The public needs to give it a chance.....
@Revanche2strokes Amen to that! There is still hope for 2T's as these new technologies make way to give the strokers a chance to operate in this emission sensitive world (as it should be).
Orbital promised much a few years back, and the Aprilia 500 scooter also gave the fans hope for the 2T's to make a comeback, but that was not to be.
Even Bimota gave it a chance and payed dearly for it, but it's V Due was not to have the sucess we hoped for and gave owners many problems.
@Revanche2strokes Lots of typos in my original comment, but I was talking about Bimota's street 500 twin twostrokes from 1998 with injection similar to the Evinrude,I think.:)
It's got the heart of Suzuki's finest. An RG 500 powerplant. New E-tec 2 strokes make more horsepower than their carburetor brothers and match their 4 stroke counterparts in emissions and fuel economy. It is, finally, the perfect balance between power, reliability, emissions, economy and that great 2 stroke fun, with that great smell and awesome powerband.
@Revanche2strokes What, are you saying this tech is now available for sports twosmokers now? I'll be getting an rgv250 soon and I was wondering if there where direct injection mods available
@Revanche2strokes Dude ... are the aprilia rs 125cc with fuel injection any good?? i hard alot of people buyed them on injection then modded to carburation coz the injector kept getting jammed by the 2 stroke oil or somt like that ... what do u say ?
@nomynuss Aprilia rs 125 2 stroke with inyection? i believe it doesn´t exists, maybe you mean the scooter sr 125. Be carefull is not the same (not even close). I don´t know about the 125, but the aprilia sr 50 ditech is a wonderful piece of tecnology; i uses 2 liters each 100 km of gasoline and with one deposit of 1,6 liters of oil it makes 4500 km. 0-100m takes 1,5 sec less than the carburated version and 3 seconds less than a honda zoomer 49.
two strokes are shit forever braking down i know i have had loads of them 4stroke much better bit slower but better

@beyond305 YOu clearly don't have a GSXR 600, and if you do then you would know a 2 stroke tuned length pipe would not work on a 4 stroke engine.
