separation of chruch and state is the 1st amendment. you can be christian, or whatever, but the government isn't. the founding fathers knew what they were doing, these guys were a generation removed at the most from horrible things done in the name of religion. it's important that we don't forget that. i went to mass yesterday, but i don't want my priest running the government.

@marvelmax03191 This video argues that true religious freedom and separation of church and state is essential to the foundation of America. Many say they are for religious freedom but favor only their religion while discriminating against others. Some citizens for example seek special recognition for the Christian religion, arguing the U.S. is a " Christian Nation" and Congress should pass laws to show this but our founders explicitly opposed any such government endorsement of religion.
