Yo La Tengo got their name from two Mets outfielders who crashed into each other all the time because one spoke Spanish and the other spoke English. Eventually, the English speaking one learned how to say "Yo La Tengo" and they stopped crashing into each other. Ira (and most likely Georgia too) is a huge baseball fan.
