Didn't I answer that in this vid!? XD It's definitely tolerable. Doctors aren't going to let you lay there in excruciating paint. They'll make sure you got all the painkillers you need. It'll definitely hurt and be uncomfortable but it's nothing you can't get through forsure :) I'm a little BABY when it comes to pain and I was fine
I had that surgery in February of this year. You're right, the surgery isn't that bad & the pain after either. They always asked me what my pain was on a scale of one to ten. It was either a one, two, or zero. Having the surgery was so much better than wearing the brace. Way better. I would've had to wear the brace through high school (I'm going into eighth)
And woah, my surgery was like 8 hours! But they did something different for me. They used screws & rods.
I've only been to the hospital when I was born, and four or five times for ear infections, ranging from age 6 to 11. and it wasn't that bad.... but it's not surgery.. and I think I fractured my wrist snowboarding this year, but my parents didn't believe me, so I can't move it certain ways now...
I want to take a picture of my back to look if it's normal now :) because i've got pain in my back often and i never really looked at it :) i always have that :/

I've never had Scoliosis or anything like that but back in 2007 I broke my ankle (and I mean completely destroyed it!). I dislocated it, broke it in 3 places and a piece of the bone was in entirely the wrong place.
So I got like a 3 hour operation, where they put in a metal plate, two bolts and 5 screws to hold my ankle together. And cases like that are really rare. The surgeon had been a surgeon for years and he'd only seen one thing like that before. And It does ache a lot in winter and i
Can't do all the exercise that I would like to but on the bright side, I can do a hell of a lot of sit ups :). But yeah, I'm sueing the school too coz it was all their fault. And the grossest thing about it is that you can actually feel the bolts and screws through the skin and sometimes the plate when the muscle wears down sometimes. i had the scoliosis surgery too during July 2006. but i had to wear that brace for 2 years, and it ended up getting worse, my surgery was 7 hours. btw you described scoliosis very well. =] i'm glad your surgery went fine.

So, i get surgery for my scoliosis a week from tomorrow. And i'm really nervous about it. I went for an appointment today, and they took more x-rays. My curve has actually progressed a big amount in the past month. I guess i'm just a chicken, i'm fifteen and there are like twelve year olds getting that surgery. The thing i'm most worried about is the fact that they are actually taking out one of my ribs to fuse between my spine.
Well I guess I could snowboard skii or go on a trampoline if I were careful, but yes I could definitely potentially hurt myself while doing those things.
And I'm not sure how the jolt from a bunjee jump would effect my back. It's possible that it wouldn't effect me at all but I wouldn't know

How long were you in the hospital? Was it just for like, a day? Because I had to stay in there for a week once, and all they would feed me was microwave food and slop. I hope you didn't have to go through that. Haha

I had Idiopathic scoliosis too - C curve though and had a backbrace for a year and a half rather than have surgery. It was pretty cool of you to talk about yours so casually - people with moderate or severe scoliosis should see this, and they'll have a better idea of it.
i'm post-scoliosis surgery for 1 ½ years now, and it was the BEST WEEK OF MY LIFE. i abused my feeble state, to 1) make me look undeniably courageous; 2) abscond school for like, fucken three months. though the surgery was absolutely painless, i became a morphine addict for 3 days straight [lmfao], till the nurses decided it was in my "best-interest" to take it away. but hands-down best part of the 'best-week-of-my-life', i guess was, realising how much i fucking love my family.

My brother has sculiosis, and he says he doesn't really notice it, he's in the Navy and they said sometimes exercise helps it.

dude, when I had the surgery, it hurt. Trust me.
the put the bloody things in wrong, and they had to fix it, so it was fine after that.
but it still hurt.
My friend's mom had the surgery, and they messed it up, they weren't able to fix it, and she has incredible pain all the time.
But the gym thing is right =) love that bit.
My scoliosis is still affecting me though.
so, yeah, wait until your spine stops growing to have the surgery.

I had back surgery for scoliosis and he is right about everything, but the rods are made of titanium, so they rarely set off the airport things.
i was back to school in a month.
before the surgery i would lay down and i was not able to breath, now i feel that the surgery was way worth it.
and believe it or not, i can still do a back bend!
i'm a cheerleader and i can do everything anyone else can do.
it also depends on where the rods are in your back, but he did a great job on this video

i have scoliosis, but it's not serious enough for surgery. it's actually a result of my left leg being longer than my right, if you could imagine that. they wanted to give me leg surgery but i decided against it.

ya my brother had kyphosis or however you spell it wich is like i guess a worse type or scoliosis yeah it was pretty bad and he has like4 rods in his back now

i am getting the surgery this june 26nd. And u dont have to answer this but when they give u the catheter. are u sedated or awake. cause i would really hate to be awake during that.

Hey, my name's Emily. I'm really glad you talked about your scoliosis and surgery. I had the same exact surgery as you did and I felt like I could really, really relate to just about everything you said. I always like meeting people who went through the surgery and have had the experience because it seems like they're hard to find! i have the wii. but when my dad went to the store or whatever. and you ask for the wii remote at the register. and than they ask for ur identification exchange for the remote.

How long were you in the hospital? Was it just for like, a day? Because I had to stay in there for a week once, and all they would feed me was microwave food and slop. I hope you didn't have to go through that. Haha

Well, I loved this video. I have a lot of respect for someone who can so easily sit there & talk about having scoliosis... I was diagnosed eleven years ago & I still prefer not to talk about it.
Thanks for telling your story, though. So many people don't know much - if anything - about scoliosis, & I think it's a good thing to spread the knowledge a bit :]

I had Idiopathic scoliosis too - C curve though and had a backbrace for a year and a half rather than have surgery. It was pretty cool of you to talk about yours so casually - people with moderate or severe scoliosis should see this, and they'll have a better idea of it.

i'm post-scoliosis surgery for 1 ½ years now, and it was the BEST WEEK OF MY LIFE. i abused my feeble state, to 1) make me look undeniably courageous; 2) abscond school for like, fucken three months. though the surgery was absolutely painless, i became a morphine addict for 3 days straight [lmfao], till the nurses decided it was in my "best-interest" to take it away. but hands-down best part of the 'best-week-of-my-life', i guess was, realising how much i fucking love my family.

the remote things on the wii, the strap on them has been braking on peoples ones, and the had to recall some because they were flying off of ppl's hands and breaking tv's

Unrelated, I know, but I had eye surgery once. It kept me out of school for a month and while I was at school I couldn't be in the sun. So that meant no recess. =D

oooh! i have scoliosis too, on my lumbar and thoracic part of the spine. :/ My growth plates have already closed too, so i'm not gonna wear a brace, but i may need surgery in the future if it gets any worse. I like your videos, you seem really nice :]
