I don't care if it is a ripoff or something. Chris is talented musician with very hard and very interesting past. Read some interview about his youth it is unbelievable.
Christopher Owens: "Each song has a different celebrity name attached to it-- when I go to the studio with JR, I say, 'This is a so-and-so song.' I'm not going to give away who they all are, but 'Jamie Marie' is the Randy Newman song."
There are many similarities to "The Greatest" by Cat Power. I'm not sure that it matters. I am reminded of other songs by every song that I hear. Maybe it's an homage. Maybe Chris has never even heard the Chan Marshall song. Should we bother speculating without knowing any details? And, I realize that my opinion doesn't mean much either. I like both songs very much.
@cannedhiss LOL he never heard The Greatest? He probably worships Cat Power! theres a live video of girls doing this song on pitchfork and he copies her live tour rendition of the greatest w the same type of background singers he's shameless!
@jaggedwords - the entire structure of the song, from the chords to the cadences to the pauses - identical. like i said i'm not trying to hate on Girls, i think the band is great, but i'd be surprised if this track wasn't pulled from the record.

@jaggedwords Sure, well the intro starts off very much like the Cat Power song, and the main thing is that the chord progression Mr. Owens is playing over and over is the same progression that Cat Power plays on "The Greatest". The tempo of this Girls song is a little more faster then the Cat Power song, maybe. Also the structure of the song, at least the points when the instruments drop out and the cadence of how he sings it mirrors Cat Powers's "The Greatest".
Stop hating on Girls...they're technically doing the same thing kanye does. Get a sample of a song and making it better

I didn't know the cat power song, as i've never got into her. Had a listen to compare and couldn't believe the similarities. This is better though.
