THANK YOU JOHN WILLIAMSON for this wonderful expression of a song that is dear to all AUSTRALIAN HEARTS...........................on the eve of A.B.Paterson's 70th year RIP. "the poets' poet's ghost", BANJO has spokenan a new version is on the horizion stay tuned. Donna Jai and Ezio Angelo of 2Ps'MUSIC"in a pod"(R) is in the studio recording AUSTRALIAN FOLK CLASSICS AND ORIGINALS.....d&e
Unfortunately I recognized too late, what for a beautiful land Australia is, with warmhearted people, free and overwhelming. Now I am too old, to become an australian. But every time when I am listening to J. Williamson, especially with this song, my eyes get wet and I wish to be there. In Germany we have absolutely no comparable national feeling, casted in a such affecting song.
You can be proud to be an Australian. Be careful with your country.
someone needs to put together a REAL Australian anthems playlist, post it on the web so that the world knows exactly what they're missing. Australia through and through!!!!
Everytime i hear this song my heart drops, my eyes tear up and i feel so very proud to be an Australian. And i have no doubt that any Aussie, anywhere in the world would stop in their tracks and take the time to listen to this song and i am sure it would really make them miss home.
This is by far the best version of this song. It does not seem right if it is sung by a woman or anyone that is not Australian. But that is just my opinion and my take on the his song.
As a Yank, we sing this song in grade school. I've always loved it. I have family that live in Perth and, while I love America and, should I have to live elsewhere on this beautiful planet, I would not think twice about living in the amazing country of Australia. The people, the land...it is a most wonderful place. Simply wonderful.
@jgreen913 I love Australia. Proud to be an aussie. Gotta say, our people are very friendly. I've been overseas, and there is just something different about us aussies :)
@wabbie88 Yes, all the Aussies were exceptionally nice to all migrants when I lived in Perth in the 60ies as a child. But I don't think they were special or different, just nice people as you would find them in other parts of the world as well.
@wabbie88 I've met quite a few Aussies here in Texas. Most of them were horse trainers. I liked them all, and they seemed to like us. One Aussie gal was leaving for home and said she wished she had a rattlesnake tail to take home. I had quite a few, so i gave her one, and she gave me a peck on the cheek. Pretty good trade I thought. I think Aussies and Texans are quite a bit alike. Best friend you can have, unless you piss them off!
@jgreen913 What a shame that you "yanks" have got such a lot of influence on Australia. When I lived in Perth in the 60ies as a child, it was still very british. I don't fancy the british way of life, but nevertheless , it seems to me that there was a little more culture then. I wouldn't want to live in Austalia now as everything is too "americanized". I prefer living in Europe where people do a little more thinking.
Yeah this is a great song however why on earth do the commies connect with these freedom songs?? God bless our freedoms under our institution of monarchy! and it if ends god help us all!
I found this song,my social studies teacher showed us this i almost cryed casue it was a memorie vid. of the crodile hunter who got killed of the sting ray OF ALL when he handled crocs and snakes...wow WE MISS HIM we whatch his vids. in social studies
i was at the Deni ute muster last year and John Williamson played this song. 20,000 people also sang along. it was a proud moment for me as a proud Aussie
Waltzing Matilda is about as Aussie you can get. It is always sung with pride and paasion for our home and we belt it out as loud as we can. It should be our national anthem hands down
Relatively certain that this version was recorded at the Bledisloe Cup in Sydney, in front of a world record rugby union crowd of 110,000. My favourite part is when the crowd join in!
If I remember correctly, this was either the match we lost when Lomu scored a late try or (as I prefer to think) it was John Eales' last match when Toutai Kefu scored the match winner in stoppage time...
I did not want to hurt anybody , only wish to say , I LOVE AUSTRALIA , even I wass never there , did not had the intention to hurt people ... like you all guys !
@FrancoiseVandeWalle - Thank you for your kind sentiments. You should come and visit us sometime. We're a pretty easy going bunch of people and we make a point of making our visitors welcome, especially ones who seem to like us. How did you develop this passion for Australia? I must admit I'm intrigued.
@Biggus63 Dear Mr .or Miss . Once by chance I met a an Australian man on the P.C. sharing the same love for animals and nature in the world ... this man lives with his family in the deep south of Australia . So he told me a lot about the country and I fell in love with the land , even I never saw it in my life !!.Maybe next year I wiil visit this family because they are SO friendly , kind and wise ... And I love the music and everything about you people !!! Love from Belgium.
@Biggus63 I also like to thank your people (I was not born then ) , to help us in the second world war , my parents had deep respect for your soldiers !!! So far from their homeland and fighting here for freedom ! Last Christmass I was in FLANDERS FIELD to visit the graves of all soldiers who died there and we still honour them .
@FrancoiseVandeWalle - It's very kind of you to honour our dead in Flanders, and your high opinion of us is flattering, but really we are just ordinary people living our lives and trying to be happy like everybody else. If you're ever in Perth, Western Australia feel free to contact me. My uncle is a farmer and I could arrange for you to spend some time in the countryside to see it for yourself. Oh, and I'm a Mr, but you can call me Richard. Bye!
@Biggus63 I know Richard that you live your life like everybody else ....but maybe it was also a sort of reaction from me because some comments about your people and country are very disgusting ! They do not know what they are talking about ! I am a very emotional person and I do not like people without respect ! When I have the time and the means , I will accept your kind invitation ! Thank you for asking anyway . Bye and greetings from Belgium !
i'd like to go to australia soon, i'm only afraid that they will deny me because i'm a felon. of course, that would be kind of hypocritical, since the nation (at least tasmania) was built on the worst of worst (or at least the most irish) of criminals from england. if they don't allow me there, i'll request that they change their official slogan to "sorry- no more criminals. we've had enough"
@noneyageorge85 I hope they will refuse you to , people like you are not educated enough to visit the Aussies , hard working people , only in the news when their land has to fight nature violence , not because they make WAR like in so many other country's in the world . Do not like your double vision !
@WEBFOOT2OF1 Never was there , but I have a friend who lives there and I adore his way of speaking with love about the deep south of AUSTRALIA , his homeland ! My friend from Australia has send me also a beautiful poem written by HENRY LAWSON , A man I did not knew ! Shame ! He wrote wonderful poem ! I loved to read this . @FrancoiseVandeWalle Henry Lawson is good, which poem did you receive from your friend in Australia? Sorry to hear about your husband, such a shame. Thank god for poetry and good friends and memories, aye?
@WEBFOOT2OF1 It was just a part of a poem I think .Started with the words " By homestead , hut and shearing shed ...." and ended " In the never, never land " .

Going to Sydney is like going to china, Vietnam,INDIA,& AFGHANISTAN ALL IN ONE DAY AFTER MY LAST VISIT THERE I'LL NEVER GO BACK THAT PLACE IS NO LONGER AUSTRALIA.....
@tinhemp, @ozzyguy69: hey, let's just enjoy a great cover of a great song without fighting :-) The "P.O.M.E." acronym is a folk etymology anyway; no-one's really quite sure where the word "pom" came from. And speaking as a half-aussie, half-pom, currently living in the states, I'm not sure where I'd rather be... all beautiful countries!
@timhemp Dude. I'm from America, and I spent a month in Australia. I've also been to England. If there was any place I'd rather be, it's Australia. If anything, they're not arrogant. Not bad for a penal colony from your country, eh? Cheerio, old boy!
I´m au pair in Australia right now and my hostparents are singing this almost every day for the girls when it bedtime for them :) love the song !! super schönes lied !!
I'm an aussie in england at the moment and I LOVE this song!! It is awesome during the rugby world cup when the aussie crowd starts singing waltzing matilda
only real australians know how good of a song this is and what it means to be an australian we truely are the best country, not like the us where there are 50 different lines seperating us all but 5
If one wants to see Australia the first thing on the list shouldn't be Melbourne, not even Sydney. The real Australia is not in the cities but in the desert and in the bush. Who agrees?
@ballagyuszi That's the first place I'm going when I get to Australia is the Outback. Coming from a guy who likes wide open spaces, bayous and not that much cities and touristy shit, it looks like home to me . . . all I gotta do is go.
@ballagyuszi The first place I would go is to a billabong with a coolabah tree next to it. I'd boil some billy and hope to catch a jumbuck down for a drink. Hopefully I wouldn't run afoul of a squatter.
Until Wikipedia came along, I thought the song was about a dancing woman. Happy Australia day from California!

I miss my wide brown land ♥
Its almost been a year now and still long like crazy to come back.
Its the most beautiful country in the world with the most gentle people I've ever met and the most stunning nature I've seen so far.

If one wants to see Australia the first thing on the list shouldn't be Melbourne, not even Sydney. The real Australia is not in the cities but in the desert and in the bush. Who agrees?
ballagyuszi 2 years ago 93
Bloody hell, i totally agree! I've been to the outback. True australia can only be found out there
kruchen 2 years ago 3
Yeah outback and the bush is my home. Though if you had to see a city in australia i would go to the most decent one which is Perth
cmndo 2 years ago 2
@ballagyuszi It's true all over the world. I have yet to see a city that truly showed the culture of the land.

@ballagyuszi That's the first place I'm going when I get to Australia is the Outback. Coming from a guy who likes wide open spaces, bayous and not that much cities and touristy shit, it looks like home to me . . . all I gotta do is go.
SwampDaddy7 1 year ago
@ballagyuszi too right mate, u can shove ya cities up ya arse

@ballagyuszi
Henry Lawson, and nobody else. The bush and the desert suck. There's nothing there and it's boring as fuck.
obglobgablob 1 year ago
@ballagyuszi The first place I would go is to a billabong with a coolabah tree next to it. I'd boil some billy and hope to catch a jumbuck down for a drink. Hopefully I wouldn't run afoul of a squatter.

aber das mit dem 'Waltzing' also Walzer tanzen und 'the beer flows and the men chunder' also das Bier fließt und die Männer kotzen :D
erinnert mich irgendwie an Österreich also das gehört definitiv auch dazu!
iLaseFMA 2 years ago
