  • OMG

What has become of the woman who sung Elèanor?

Ok, she's lovely, she's cute, she aged gracefully, she's got an amazing voice but...

    I MISS THE GATHERING DAYS!

Or even the air/pure air days...

  • @Franz2099 "What has become of the woman who sung Elèanor?"

Well let's see. Cute, still smiles a lot, still has a great voice (actually nowadays even better). Music still has synths, guitar and drums and lyrics are still mostly about feelings. A couple of more tattoos, maybe?

Actually, when I think of it this way, I don't even want her to try and pretend to be some 40-year old gothchick. She actually wasn't one back in the 90's, either.

  • @isktrfu Well, my friend, if you say that "music still has synths, guitar and drums and lyrics are still mostly about feelings" in comparing the Gathering with this pseudopop it is clearly evident that you and music are two worlds apart.

In this line of thought, then, there is no difference between Justin Bieber and The Beatles. If you think that, well, good riddance to you but one of us has serious problems understanding the nuances of the world and that's not me.

  • @Franz2099 Nope, i'm just pointing out the fact that the Gathering had and still has it's fair share of popinfluence in them. And when I listen to the Gathering, of course the music is more nuanced, someone might say there is more meaning to it. But this is the point i'm trying to make. The same spirit is still here. More straightforward, positive. Some of the songs of this new record really stand out.And understanding nuances of the world also means finding beauty in simple things, my friend.

  • @isktrfu The part about thee 40 year old gothchick is pure nonsense, I don't uinderstand what you mean with that. There is nothing wrong with being 40 yr old goths or things like that.

Anneke is free to sing and compose whatever she likes, but I'm equally free to say I don't like it and say that she's changed (musically) for the worse.

  • wtf :(

  • Am I the only one that wants to see a whole video of her just playing the drums?

  • Top notch!

  • Comment removed

  • que triste se volvio otra madonna .... mi idolo D:

  • thats a nice song! Annekes voice fuckin perfect as always.

  • I just love her voice...

And even if I don't know her, I think she is a great Artist with no fear to take the chance and risk it all, just for the joy of making music...

    There are only 2 genres for me...Music I like, music that I don't like, that's all :)

Because it's just a dumb thing, don't listen to something you like just because is not rock or metal or anything it's too sad...music world it's just too big and vast, why can't we enjoy the huge talents like this woman?

  • @Traigame2cervezas because this is a waste of her talents, and it's not because it's not metal.

Pure air wasn't metal either, but it was amazing. This is not.

  • @Franz2099 And with this I do agree with you. Pure Air has amazing songs in it. Her versions of Blower's Daughter or Power of Love are really good, she just doesn't sing them through, she completely rewrites the songs with her singing.

  • >> this is Avril Lavigne, Amy Lee

No, these dudes are miles below.

  • This is not Anneke, this is Avril Lavigne, Amy Lee or something =(

not even a shadow of what she made us feel, all that emotion in her voice! all that talent!! god how I miss that..

anyway I love her, but her music not any more

  • Beautiful

    multi-talented

    has tattoos

    perfect! <3

  • Surprisingly good!

  • i don´t like :/

  • I suggest we all move to the Netherlands and found an all-loving community around Anneke.

  • Elizabeth... Banks?

  • @helloweenarctico No thats Miri making a porno

  • Anneke is GREAT!!!

  • Good song, excellent album..

  • Absolutely positive, nice to see it, longing for the spring. Although I do not like pop at all, as for me this one has nothing to do with pop. It is just good - or very good, thanks to the author/performer!

  • I HATE the music but I enjoy watching Meysam Noori dance in this!! although I wish the music was better. wtf is this?

  • This sucks!

  • The discussion here is even more boring than her music. It´s good. No other words! Her voice makes this poppy song unique. She can sing everything! If you here The Gathering Songs like "In motion" oder "travel" today for example, these song lost a bit magic that Anneke puts in. But the new Songs with Silje are great, and so, please do not compare past Gathering-Songs with Anneke´s solo-stuff, it´s sooooo ridiculous

  • there are 400 songs out there that sound exactly like this one, with the gathering each song felt awesome and unique, even on their other solo stuff it had pretty good songs

  • Love Anneke :)

  • I just can't get enough of this shit!

  • Il video fa abbastanza cagare... ma la sua voce è inconfondibile come sempre

  • what's this???... madonna heavy or something??.. at least until 1:27 it seems to that.. after that some parts are better... but, c'mon anneke.. you are more than this kind of music... but well..., first single of the album is not a bad song at least, but this one is so far away from what aneeke is, or she was..

  • Lame.

  • I never thought I would ever make a bad comment about her, but this is sooooo boring. I hope she stops trying to be a popstar and focuses on what she can do best

  • @YIANNIS2003 Well, it did open at #1 in the Dutch charts. In any case, this new album's actually got a ton of awesome stuff on it.

  • Mouai...

  • love the positive energy she brings into her music!

  • I have no words to describe how much I loved this song ! Great job Anneke !

P.S. You look so freakin' sexy with those hipster glases

  • Is it Liv Christine? ;)

  • No no no...nice try..but .. just give me The Gathering.

  • just can't stop listening this song ;)

  • I liked Anneke much more with the Gathering...but she's awesome all the same!

  • Good, but now she looks like a cat, when he was with the Gathering, she looked like a tiger!

  • Well...she would probably make a god hit from this song in Japan...being Japanese of course...because it reminds me of the POP-ROCK-wierd sounds-heavy guitar style that some bands are/were successfull with. And while I can enjoy the "energy" of the song (like in the "Feel Alive" one), and the voice, I still feel also a bit sad, which I should not:\ For now...I feel like having an argument with myself...but all in all...it's OK-ish:)

  • While some need to "deal with her new direction" others need to stop complaining about why people dislike the new album. It's not about"heavy stuff" vs. "pop stuff", it's about quality. And some people are clearly unhappy with the QUALITY of the songs. Anneke doesn't need everyone to like her songs, but as a long term fan, I feel the right to express my opinion and I think the point of having a "comment" option is to express it, wether you like it or not.

  • @silentsecret28 Yes, opinions are needed, but give reasons for them. Its mostly about quality. When you ask whats wrong with it, people say "bad pop with no emotion". How I feel: Feel Alive, nice build-up, lyrics simple yet effective. My boy, great build-up, fantastic chorus, one of the best of her entire career, emotional lyrics straight from her heart. Stay, heavy song, makes the dynamics of the record better. Circles, she always makes ballads, this is a really good one.

  • @silentsecret28 And that negative side:I would like her to focus on her lyrics. Not only this record, but her solo stuff in general. It's nice that she sings about emotions, and there are songs like Witnesses that have message other than emotions, and emotions have always been an essential part of her lyrics, but I would like her to try and tell those thought provoking little stories like Travel or Herbal Movement, too.

  • @isktrfu Actually you mention one of the things that bothers me the most in her solo career: the lyrics. Anyway, for my ears, the album is melodic but too catchy. At first the whole package looks nice, but as far as you listen to it, it gets boring and insipid. I also dislike the typical gothic synths, which make me think of within temptation (a dislike point). On the other hand, we have My Boy and 1000 Miles Away From Home, that are the best songs she ever made so far.

  • @silentsecret28 Pur Air, IMO, should have been a cover Ep. Those covers, esp. Blowers Daughter or Power of Love are fantastic, she completely breaths new life in them with her voice, which is the essence of doing a cover, IMO. But the renditions of Air songs do not bring anything new in to them. When I was a kid, I used to listen to Eurovision-song contests,70-80's songs. So IYR works for me as retro. And Adore or Just Fine are great songs.

  • @silentsecret28 Addicted is basically,IMO, one of the best records of the last decade. Her and Devins collaboration works like a charm. It's supposed to be a partyrecord to celebrate Devins change in lifestyle, and you can really hear it from that record. Annekes vocals are outstanding, and Numbered always makes shviers down in my spine. And the there are those acoustic shows with Danny Cavanagh. I really hope they continue doing them, because I would like to see one live.

  • @silentsecret28 So her solocareer as a whole, I just find it hard to believe, that some people are so judgemental about it. Of course I don't like every song and yes she should sharpen up her pen lyricwise, but as a whole she's still doing fantastic music.

  • @isktrfu That's what I said in a previous comment. I pesonally don't like this album, as I didn't like In ur Room, but she has a lot of collaborations that makes me forget about them. I mean, Addicted is a masterpiece. I love her album with Danny, and some others songs she made, like the Lorrainville project. I'm just glad she continues to make such collaborations, and I'm really pleased to know she is doing something she enjoys so much. thats why I keep "worshiping" her.

  • @isktrfu I just don't want her to be forgotten!

  • @silentsecret28 Same. I hope she gets more recognized. Future will show if that happens. And yes, I've been listening to that Lorrainville project too. Interesting folkmusic. And Epicloud is coming. And Devin Townsend Projects DVD live box set, seen clips of that in youtube and Numbered was absolutely fantastic.

  • @isktrfu In conclusion, it's not an album that makes me want to listen to it often. And I know it will be easly forget on my playlist. Except for those two song I mention earlier. Anyway, I'm aware that my opinion doesn't matter at all.

  • No, every opinion matters as long it's constructive. I agree with you here, there are the standout tracks (Feel Alive, Stay, My Boy, Circles, 1000 miles..), a few good ones, but then again there are those tracks that I know I will soon forget. Basically the same thing with Air. IMO, after two good tracks, it loses it's edge, but then again it picks up again and songs like Trail of Grief or Lost and Found are really good. So as quality goes this, IMO, goes to same league with Air

  • ...it's obvious that an artist will experiencie in music making and it has happened with many muscicians, but that doesnt mean it has to be dissaponting. Finally she's just Anneke and not the ex the gathering....and we can appreciate she's loving what she does.

  • What's the matter with anneke's new album?? I think it's great, of course it's different...but still has Anneke's essence. The songs i've listened to are very powerfull, if you compare it with the "air" album is completley different but anyways it has it's own beauty...

  • It's not about whether it's pop, metal or singing Purcell (all of which she's a maestro at). It's about the QUALITY of the material. And this is BAD. Neither is it really 'pop. Goodness knows what it is - its a trashy mishmash - its got some rubbish (really irritating) sounds on it and is unworthy of her - a wrong turn and waste of her superlative talents. Untill she works with top writers/arrangers/producers - her unique voice will not reach the places (and the people) it shoul. Such a pity.

  • Sorry, in my opinion this is terrible music.. But I really lovee the dancer! Meysaaaam! <33

  • I love her new stuff. An artist evolves… I’m a professional photographer; the photos I take now don’t really look like the photos I was taking in the late 90s when I first started out…. Thank God. If Anneke’s music still sounded like her work with The Gathering it would bore the living shit out of me.

  • This is my PERSONAL opinionn: I love Anneke, I think she's one of the finest singers in this world, she's. amazing and talented and has a great versatility. That's why it's so sad to hear her new record :/ when she said it would be the first ANNEKE VAN GIESRBERGEN album I was excited but she came up with this easy bubblegum pop that sounds awful on her. I respect her but I find weird the fact that her FIRST TRULY SOLO ALBUM is no match for albums like Air or In your room. I'm so sad about this.

  • @AdiGalia90 In my Opinion, "In your room" was more Pop and sounds more commercial compared to her new Album "Everything is changing", "Too Late", "Stay" or "Slow me down" for example are more heavier than all the stuff she released in the past, except "Witnesses" from the first Agua De Annique-Album "Air". It´s Time to leave the past (with The Gathering) behind. I like her new Album more than "In your room" or "Air".

  • meme si c'est pas du metal pur j'aime beaucoup ce qu'elle fait

  • a mi me gusta cualquier cosa que cante esta mina , se merece todo el respeto por su trayectoria, asique puede hacer lo que quiera

  • This remind me of everything I hate about modern rock! Why did Anneke get setup with some cookie-cutter production that has sucked the life out of music. Delain, Tiamat, Within Temptation, Mortal Coil, Paradise Lost, Birthday Massacre, Nightwish, Evanescence. I have been a devoted fan - i really like "Feel Alive" - I was really excited about the new CD, but this song changes that and I will not support it

  • Anneke is a world class singer, song writer and performing artist. Even if this was an exclusive pop album - which isn't - there's nothing wrong with pop music, specially if the artist enjoys it. Actually, some songs on this album are probably the heaviest she's ever released on her own. Apparently most people can see past the pop-tabu and find out what's really under the sleeve on this album. The other people can go back to the nineties and be happy. Either way, she moved on. Deal with it.

  • @ultrasoundstudios IMO, this new style suits her well and some of the songs really stand-out. Gathering is making a new record, I really like the song Heroes for Ghosts. And I look forward for their record. When I want to look back, the old CDs and DVDs are still there. Shes also working with Devin again. I her like acoustic work with Danny Cavanagh. I hope I see them live someday. Yeah, things are going really, really, really bad for me as a fan of Anneke and the Gathering.

  • @ultrasoundstudios It's pointless calling her world class when she sings rubbish like this. I agree she has the potential to be world class (which few have) but its the material that lets her down. So far she has played to niche markets and 'specialist' tastes (nothing wrong with that) but if she truly wants to go global (which she could) she's got to have something of global quality - and this song is so poor it wont even go local never mind global.

  • @jezkn In your opinion, what is global quality these days. If her own work or Gathering or Addicted etc are for "specialist taste", what is global quality.

Rihanna is "global quality" these days. And for the top producers etc, Attie Bauw is a top producer, so is Devin Townsend. Daniel Cardoso is really promising young producer. I don't even want her to work with "top" producers we have these days. You do know Timbaland is a "top" producer now.

  • @isktrfu Why mention Rhianna? Are you suggesting Anneke is not capable of commanding that wide appeal on her own terms (and Rhianna - like her or not - is bloody good at what she does). If you are - then Anneke is clearly not world class is she? The YouTube viewing figures say it all. The most she's got was 321,000 over two years but generally it's below fifty thousand and mostly a few thousand. That's hardly more than Karaoke in global terms.

  • @jezkn I'm saying globally succesfull music is basically r&b these days. Check out the billboard. And Anneke is not an r&b-artist. Her style has always, ALWAYS been pop-influenced. Even the Gathering had a lot of 80's dreampop and 90's shoegaze influences in their music. And Rihanna is bloody good and this song is rubbish. I really strongly disagree with you.

  • @isktrfu Globally successfull music is not just about what's successfull now -its about creating classics (in any genre) -that persist (and grow) over time (youTube is full of such classics from all eras with universal appeal)- that still command huge audiences. I'm not knocking what she's done but it isn't world class. If it was the 'world' would be listening. Not just Holland. As for this song.- look at the comments so far. But if your right - the viewing figures will tell the story.

  • @isktrfu ... If you claim that 'top producers' were responsible for this song then 'top' is a very relative concept. If your happy with that fine - but then dont claim she's world class.

Look - no one would like to see Anneke on a global stage more than me (because she's got the talent). But she's going to have to get material a heap lot better than this (and written to bring the best out of her extraordinary voice) to achieve it. But maybe she's happy as she is. The worlds loss though.

  • @jezkn As for those producers, Attie Bauw did HTMAP and Home with Gathering. Zlaya Hadzich produced Souvenirs. All very good records, different styles. Now Daniel Cardoso brings something new to her music. The thing that makes her world class in my books, is that she is constantly trying something a bit different. And her voice is unique. And she seems to be happy with what she does so why change that?

  • @isktrfu What you say about trying something new is fine (and she can make even the mediocre sound better) but that doesn't make it world class. Only the world can decide that. And to date the world hasn't heard her?.Why?

I agree that her voice is unique. i also think it has universal appeal (beyond any genre - metal/pop/classical). But no -you're right -if she's happy -you're happy -her fans are happy- I step down. But she can't be world class 'cause the world hasn't heard her (yet)!

  • @jezkn she just debuted on the dutch national top 100 chart at #11 this week my friend, And I think she's getting twice as much attention from mainstream dutch radio and tv. If that's not going local...In the end she's still walking on her right path and you're just bashing her up for doing what she wants to do. Sorry, but you lose buddy.

  • @ultrasoundstudios I'm not an Anneke basher -I'm an Anneke worshipper -that's why I think the material she sings should be out of the top draw. And it isn't. If she was an average singer I wouldn't bother. She isn't known over here at all - nor in most of world - nor will she be with this stuff. OK she's at 11 in Dutch chartsl. Whoopy Doo. But in global terms - that's 'local'. Holland is producing some amazing female vocalists at moment and the world deserves to hear them.

  • @ultrasoundstudios But HEY - if the Dutch are happy - who the hell am I to wish a wider audience for this dutch treasure.. (I will crawl back into my anglo-centric hole!)

  • @ultrasoundstudios More disposable music for the mindless masses. Deal with it.

  • How long has it been since Anneke's choice for her own road? 4 years and a bit... Why still moan about the Gathering? People change, and when I look at the music Anneke gave us the last couple of years it is good change. Wouldn't have wanted to miss those cozy lil frail gigs.

  • No mattter if pop,or rock... she just still amazing on her way... and i love so much this. everything is changing .. right? rs

  • The Gathering was awesome, yeah, but can we focus on Anneke here?

I think she would like to be seen as herself, doing her music the way she likes.

She wants to be Anneke van Giersbergen, not the "ex The Gathering".

  • Better than Feel Alive, at least! Anyway, I'm not buying the album. This is not the kind of music that makes me love Anneke and it's definitely not the album she will be remebered for. Bright side of the story: I have plenty of great stuff with her voice to listen to!

  • Hm... I don't know what I should think about this song... some parts are great and everytime when I think "Now the song begins and it rocks" the meloday change in the false direction....

  • yeah, aging comes to everybody, u should see her at Ayreon, she was amazing...but she still very pretty

  • I'm sorry, I love Anneke, but this is a pop video for a pop song..

  • @CU2T0D10 It´s Pop, that´s right, but Pop is not bad at all. This is guitar influencred Pop, catchy and with her amazing voice it´s a more unique Pop-Song. It is nearly impossible not to like it! And for the more metal-like tunes, there is still her work with the Master himself, Devin Townsend! Good work Annie, my CD arrived yesterday, and I´m still impressed, how good Pop can be!

  • like the Cranberries

  • Nice one but it's not a classic Anneke....it sounds like a Van Buuren song (reminds me the Gwen Stefani change few years ago)....anyway great video !!!!

  • Well, her new album is really different, but I can't dislike anything she does.

Btw, "Take Me Home" >>>>> "Feel Alive".

And I don't need to say anything about her awesomeness, it's unnecessary. <3

  • @gabrevarao And it's not all that poppy either. There are songs like Stay which is actually one of the heaviest songs she's done. Or My Boy, rocksong with great chorus and really emotional lyrics etc.

  • My inspiration!

  • thank god there are still women with actual taste in the world

  • Love it.

    Anneke is a Goddess...

  • Love Anneke! can't wait to see you in Barcelona :D!!!!!!!!! <3

  • Why I love Anneke ♥

  • Amazing voice.

  • she is so hot ! xD

  • Not bad, but sounds sooooooooo commercial! Right?

  • Lekker clipje, Rob, don't you just love black & white?

VIEWERS: WEL EVEN RECHTSONDER OP 1080pHD ZETTEN!!!

  • you prefer the old or the new anneke?........ i think i will stay with the memories..........sorry anneke.

  • @mrmakedonas1 me too :(

  • Meysam ♥♥

  • Noooooooooo...

  • you look very sexy with those glasses!

  • Damn !!! This is terrible POP ((( I painfully and sadly look at this ...

  • @618turbid me too but I can't be unhappy about her coming back :D

  • Gosh, I LOVE THIS MUSIC! Anneke you're bloody amazing! Cheers from Brazil! ;)

  • wow....... you are so beautiful!!

  • I love your new album! It sounds full of experiences that people can relate with, and the way you tell them is just amazing =) By the way you look so incredibly beautiful on the video and the disc's art!!!

  • @Aleeejdr CIERTO, LUEGO DE HACER COSAS TAN BUENAS SE ESTÁ VOLVIENDO POPERA.

  • Yes ! Great !!!

  • Anneke? I've never been a fan of her solo stuff but This is really bland pop music, obviously mostly done on the computer

  • @insidethefall78

EVERYTHING today is done on computers....

  • @ferchdan Not true, even with electronic and pop music, things can be done in more organic ways, even in a digital format.

  • Lots of love from Greece <3

  • Wow, this is super! Greetings from Finland and from the place where you Anneke ended Gathering career (Ankkarock), big cheers!

  • this is to you those who r saying that is to popy or whatever you want to call it and what i want to say to u is that her voice it's even more powerful than before and i follow her since 1994 when she did appear in the gathering mandylion which i have and i've been listening this album in repeat and is not pop at all i can assure u is something completely new and by the way is marvelous

  • 2:40 love her ♥

  • You're going to kill me with your gorgeousness and your amazing voice!

  • I don't want to say "I loved Anneke the most with the gathering" but that's how I feel. It's like her powerful and charming voice has been imprisoned in way-too-poppy songs. I mean, her previous album gave me the same feeling, but a couple of songs like "adore" were amazing. But I think she's no more using her voice completely, there's no strength, no emotion. And that's a pity cause she has one of the most beautiful voices in the world.

  • And, btw, the video is HOT :) And fresh, nice and elegant.

  • The video didn't quite let me focus on the music, but I really liked the video and think the song will grow more and more on me! This is really cool, Anneke. Congrats! :) I'm dying to get the album, and I won't listen to this again until I do cause I want to keep the mystery! Hahaha. :)

  • Me encanto la canción y muy buen video!

  • Hey, Meysam, cool!

Het editwerk is een klein beetje clumsy though. Ze laten 'm z'n moves steeds nét niet afmaken :p coole clip all around though!

  • Sharon from Within temptation brought me here :)

  • Cool video, though! Impressive drumming.

  • Strange choice of songs for videos. There's so many better songs on the album. I suppose you choose the more poopy songs...

  • just one word... TRAGIC! it is tragic how she ended up... bad-pop! and the weird thing is i like pop in general... :/

  • @AmeliaMarina you´re right unfortunately......there´s crisis in music too...(greetings from Basque Country)

  • A lot better than your previous song, but still very (too?) poppy for my likings...

  • OMG!!!!! I love it... The song, the new album and the video wow :D Anneke the most beautiful *-* in all your band possition; bass, drums, guitar, singer....<3

  • you're awesome anneke, as usual !

  • Nice song.

The video is not really my thing.
