Instead of wearing dress shoes, can you wear Nike Airfoce ones, new era hat? also can you also say dude or man while on the intercom? Or will you be fired?
Amazing! I have no doubt of becoming a pilot! These vid really motivated me, i've watched it over 90000 and I'm not bored of it. Without the last 10 secs, wouldn't be as great as it is.
I fly very often now due to my boyfriend living in Ireland. This has inspired me to become a female pilot! Or Air hostess, I'll compare the attire first..
Regardless, it's home up there ;) Best office view you can find :) But yes, you are right, on some flights civil you get to have days like these but work is also work. Another one to try is a regional busy service, the job is more like a busdriver, always racing clock, long days, several runs to and fro. Small unglamorous regionals and bad coffee. :)
When they were showing the hotel sequences, they edited out the part where the flight attendants spend the night in the pilots' hotel rooms. Nice ending with his kid.
Try telling me sitting in an office is better than that (no matter HOW much you get paid). I would rather be a pilot any day for any pay than waste away my life in some boring office.
What a great video!!! I loved all but the end was the best!! I'm pilot in Brazil, flight instructor, indeed. I'm preparing to get hired in a airline soon and I recognized myself by watching this.
What an incredible video! I loved every second of it -- you really showed us what it's like to be a pilot... and, wow, coming home to your family -- my God, too cute! Thanks for all of the safe flights. You certainly have a thankless job, so I'd like to say first hand, "You are appreciated!"
But i am kinda intrested, wat are you doing when you'r on one of those long flights?Do you just read a book or something or watch a movie cause i can't imagine myself sitting there 20 hours straight.
but there are 2 radio frequences that pilots tune into.
1st one is for air traffic controll, and the 2nd is just a social one. talking to pilots on other aircraft, putting your ipod earbuds by the mic so there will be music..
and hoping ur on a long flight, ur with some pilot that u can enjoy trading jokes and having a bit of fun there.
and i guess sure u can "read a book". but there's also so many things u have to do there.
even out in the pacific youre still travelling along airways, crossing borders etc...constantly being passed from one frequency to another - it doesn;t mean that theyre talking the whole time but calls are being made through the flight.
Guys for all of you who wants to become commercial pilot dont listen to Vertex2109 keep your dreams up and keep this goal in mind and you'll make it. It's hard but not that hard work hard at school go to college and take pilot lessons while that and one day you'll be flying those big ladys too!
Boston is the best crew base.... and yes, every one of the people in this video are awsome folks. The company bites to work for though, bunch of theives. What comes around goes around though. Contract 08 !!
Yeah it was a 767. I couldn't tell which model the -200, or -300.
I love this video. I've been watching it for about a year now, and I just recently made a YouTube account so I can now comment on it! I give it a five.
Then, go for it! Commit, NOW, to preparing and studying. You'll have to get a congressional nomination. The application process is VERY competetive. Get the grades, in tough courses, and make sure you are "well rounded", eg: school & civic volunteer organizations, athletics, etc. If you are in Scouting, earn the Eagle rank. That'll get a lot of attention. Good luck.
Commercial pilot?AF Academy might not be best way to go. 10 year commitment AFTER pilot training. Commtmt was shorter when I graduated from Acad. But, military flying rocks! Check out "Push the Limit" youtube vid.
Civilian career? Lots of good college aviation programs and other avenues to get you in to that track vs the military/academy.
Pff still looks great in my opinion.. its been my dream ever since i flew for the first time.. and finally i'm in a Flight school, just started flying the piper warrior... can't wait till im done and be flying the big ass shit :D by the way, the point is not that the things you learn are so hard (sure, there are some hard parts) but it's just a fucking lot to learn if you want to remember everything after the course... and you need to haha :P
Actually, many pilots I know are saying we are on the cusp of a hiring boom. (Mandatory retirements and corresponding seniority vacancies, increased consumer demand, et al) The airline industry is cyclical, and the past few years gave been a bust, but there's plenty of evidence out there to suggest a career as a pilot may yet swing back to being the prestigious, prosperous profession is was "back in the day."
Can we think of any successful person who did not, at one time in their life, choose to press through with their vision and dream when the odds seemed dead-set against them? The idea that we should only pursue safe choices is a sure-fire way to live a bland, irrelevant, and pointless life.
Things in aviation may be taking a nose-dive now, but look to the future (5-10 Years): things may very well change.
My dream is to become a pilot. My dad worked for TWA, but then got furloughed during the AA buyout of them (and still is furloughed since 2003). Even so, with Amercan's great records, that is my dream airline to be with when I get older.
No matter what you make, your passengers will think you are overpaid. We make it look easy most of the time. They have no clue what really goes on and how quick it can fall apart. Several friends are no longer here after accidents in their "formative years". I'll 2nd Cherrypoots comment.
Just use it as your goal and work towards it. The way I look at it is that if you can drive a car, you can fly a plane. I find that flying is much easier than driving actually.
Cool thats wat i wnt to do im onli 14 but planning is essental bucause of GCSE's. If u dont mind me askin what exams do u have and is the training hard. r u gonna join the airlines after pilot trianing
good to hear bout your dreams kid i started dreaming of an airline job when i started at school. study i tough and im still training im only 20 and have one more year of air transport pilots licence theory left... its an exciting life totally different to the everyday desk job this vid get it in one
may i ask (im 14) i am scared because this is all i wanted to do and im scared if i wont make it is school (like training in a flying school) acceptable to work your way to the top
m8 good to hear u have a plan but jst work hard at school revise as much as you can (defenatley at maths and physics) work hard play hard. i'm scared too but we will have to wait and c wat happens.
i wasnt good at maths a year ago but jst done my physics GCSE and got an A 2nd out of the whole year im not ashamed. u no
Cool thats wat i wnt to do im onli 14 but planning is essental bucause of GCSE's. If u dont mind me askin what exams do u have and is the training hard. r u gonna join the airlines after pilot trianing
by exams do you mean exams taken in the RAF or gcse/A level? The training is challenging but very rewarding, once basic training is out the way it becomes 20 times better and yes, hope to go into commercial airlines after a while in the RAF. Good Luck with your future.
Have you flown Aeromexico? They got some old Md 80s. But they are getting rid of them and buying 737-700 and 737-800. They are also replacing their 757 and 767 with the new 787.
Great choices =). Mind you, if you want to work for an international airline, such as Air France or AeroMexico, they usually require you to be able to speak their language. So if you don't know French or Spanish, you might want to start taking lessons. I want to fly for Lufthansa, and have begun studying German =).
Yeah of course the Flight schools are always gonna whip out their "retirement age and seniority projection charts". Look....It is all bullshit lol everyone in the industry knows this!!! Wake up!!! They've been doing this same shite for decades all they do is LIE to hook up wannabes and suck them dry of their money with false promises
All i'm saying is keep a realistic approach that's all. Be sure you're in it just for the love of FLYING, cause getting there is harder than you think. Of course once you get there.....it is oh so sweet. Best of luck buzz
how long does it take to be a pilot and is it hard cause I REALLY WANT 2 BE A PILOT BUT IM SO FUKING SCARED!!!!!!! so if ur a pilot reply this or send me a meassage k
hey good question.. I was scared before i made a desision to follow my dream to become an airline pilot no matter what and that's what i did... It's not about the pay it's about the passion. The pay may not be great but when you get to flying for airliners like Emirates airlines and singapore airlines they pay pretty good.. so if you really love it, you should go for it!!
There's no set time that it takes to become an airline pilot. It depends on the industry, how much money you have, how much time you have, and, most importantly, the amont of study youre willing to put into it.
You need to get at least a Bachelor's Degree for any major to take you seriously in the long run. It can be in any subject but preferably something aviation, engineering, physics or math related. you can also enroll in a flight school like Delta Connection Academy or Embry-Riddle and get your degree similtaneously whilst your built up your ratings and flight time.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
You better stop giving unsuspecting wannabes hopes. IT is worse than bad worldwide for one thing us the real thing know whatever noob comes along is gonna get crunched and anihilated. Stop lying to people
I don't plan on being "Crunched and Annihilated" as I enter the realm of commercial aviation. On the contrary, I plan on working my ass off and succeeding no matter what hardships I encounter, just as anyone with a decent work ethic would do if they wanted to excel in a similarly prestigious and competitive career (lawyer, doctor, businessman, et al).
If people get burned out and leave, that's great news for me; I'm that much closer to seniority. :)
elfling, that is BS. If anything, now is the time to jump aboard! ASA just lowered their minimums to NO flight time requirement. Just multi-commercial. Meaning just 250 hours could probably get you into the left seat, granted you know your shit and work your ass off.
BB10Pilot is spot-on with his comments. I've been in this business for almost 20 years, and flight instructed back in the early 90's.
It's fine to fly when you're under 16, just re-frame your goals until you're closer to 17, unless you have cash to burn. 'd recommend flying every 4-6 months mostly as encouragement, since improvement will come more slowly than if you were to train more often. ... Try not to get too frustrated while you wait for biology to catch up to your brain.
Holy shit this is good. I can't wait to start my flight lessons. I plan on majoring in Aviation Science at Bridgewater State College. Fall 2008 is too fucking long to wait!!!
I would strongly reccomend not starting your flying career till about 16.
The FAA states that no person under the age of 16 can solo, and no person under the age if 17 can obtain a private pilot lisence.
I made the mistake, started too young, and could only fly about every month, which means everytime you go in again you have to do review from last time.
So unless you are made of cash, don't start till a little later, as it is a huge finicial sink.
Love this video!!!.. that's in the feature my job! . ready for take-off.

by exams do you mean exams taken in the RAF or gcse/A level? The training is challenging but very rewarding, once basic training is out the way it becomes 20 times better and yes, hope to go into commercial airlines after a while in the RAF. Good Luck with your future.

Have you flown Aeromexico? They got some old Md 80s. But they are getting rid of them and buying 737-700 and 737-800. They are also replacing their 757 and 767 with the new 787.
chivasrocks 4 years ago
AeroMexico is a premier airline in the world. Then again so is Mexicana in that part of the world. Very respected outfits.
They are very quickly phasing out the MD fleet for 737-738 short/mid range routes. I know quite a few of the pilots there and they rock.

Good choice mine will be Swiss#1,#2Turkish airlines,#3 lufthansa
akturksener123 4 years ago
Great choices =). Mind you, if you want to work for an international airline, such as Air France or AeroMexico, they usually require you to be able to speak their language. So if you don't know French or Spanish, you might want to start taking lessons. I want to fly for Lufthansa, and have begun studying German =).

Yeah of course the Flight schools are always gonna whip out their "retirement age and seniority projection charts". Look....It is all bullshit lol everyone in the industry knows this!!! Wake up!!! They've been doing this same shite for decades all they do is LIE to hook up wannabes and suck them dry of their money with false promises
elfling 4 years ago
Keep it up! The more people get scared off, the better my chances. :-)

All i'm saying is keep a realistic approach that's all. Be sure you're in it just for the love of FLYING, cause getting there is harder than you think. Of course once you get there.....it is oh so sweet. Best of luck buzz

hey good question.. I was scared before i made a desision to follow my dream to become an airline pilot no matter what and that's what i did... It's not about the pay it's about the passion. The pay may not be great but when you get to flying for airliners like Emirates airlines and singapore airlines they pay pretty good.. so if you really love it, you should go for it!!
iloveaviation 4 years ago
There's no set time that it takes to become an airline pilot. It depends on the industry, how much money you have, how much time you have, and, most importantly, the amont of study youre willing to put into it.

You need to get at least a Bachelor's Degree for any major to take you seriously in the long run. It can be in any subject but preferably something aviation, engineering, physics or math related. you can also enroll in a flight school like Delta Connection Academy or Embry-Riddle and get your degree similtaneously whilst your built up your ratings and flight time.
crain81 4 years ago
Many years, preferably a college degree etc, alot of money etc

This comment has received too many negative votes show
You better stop giving unsuspecting wannabes hopes. IT is worse than bad worldwide for one thing us the real thing know whatever noob comes along is gonna get crunched and anihilated. Stop lying to people
elfling 4 years ago
I don't plan on being "Crunched and Annihilated" as I enter the realm of commercial aviation. On the contrary, I plan on working my ass off and succeeding no matter what hardships I encounter, just as anyone with a decent work ethic would do if they wanted to excel in a similarly prestigious and competitive career (lawyer, doctor, businessman, et al).
If people get burned out and leave, that's great news for me; I'm that much closer to seniority. :)
freakybuzz 4 years ago
elfling, that is BS.

Diggles.

I'm gonna be a pilot, (i'm 13) gonna fly my first plane around january-febuary 2008! :D i'm so excited

I really want to be a pilot, but i don't think I'd be able to cope with being away from loved ones for so long and so often.
Thank god for flight sim.
