  • How long have you been practcing this? I looked at the fingering and its pretty hard. And whats your setup? I think we all want to know :P.

  • Wow I hope to play this etude one day soon.

  • Cannot see/remember if I sent you this question.

What make is the contra alto?

    What reed?

    Strength?

Beautiful tone. Wish I had your hands.

    jdt

  • I hope you didnt make state. (and im pretty sure you didnt)I played this etude last year on bass clarinet. you murdered the weird part in the middle. oh well. it was ok.

  • ummm go die. it was'nt that bad.

  • OMG I PLAY ALTO CLARINET IS ROCKS!!

  • otherwise very nice

  • HEY!!!!! i played that song on my clarinet!!!!

    and it's wasn't the All-State audition.

i have a book that has that song

  • they get the all state audtion music from books..DUH!

  • Wish I had those kinda fingers..

  • Very very nice, I played this for my audition this year for 9-10 All-State Bb Clarinet for Florida. I also got in on Eb clarinet, but this is a very tough etude, one of the toughest etudes in the rose book.

  • I was going to audition for Missouri's all-state band on my Eb contra, but they said they didn't have any need for one. Another reason I'm jealous of Texas music programs.

  • It wasn't as great as i thought it would be after reading the comments. Your tone sucked in the lower register and the technique was not there. Sorry man, good try

  • Wow you need a lot of air to play that thing!!!

you have really good technical skills

    very very nice

  • I remember this piece! I tried out on soprano though

  • That is really really good. I play the bass clarinet for my middle school. You are one of the best clarinet players i have ever seen.

  • The contra alto will always be my fav, (though I did march with it for a week while my alto sax was in the shop...don't ask ^_^) how did the audition go?

  • Very nice.I played the contra in school for many years..I found it to be my favorite and not at all as imposing as most people think (esp. If your in love with it). I marched with a bass though..I was way to short to march with that thing, lol.

  • wow....just wow....i play contra-alto clarinet in my HS band and i wish i could play like that...and do you march that thing in marching band? its a real pain in the ass to do hahah

  • I used to play the Contra-alto. I remember a time in Junior high, when I first started, I played a note, and it rattled the pipes in the ceiling at my school!

Great instrument, and an even better player! I played until last semester (11th Grade), you are better than I ever was!

  • Wow! You're amazing! I play contrabass too! You rock!

  • Hats off to you!! I'm a very experienced clarinetist and I'm very impressed with your abilities. That can be a daunting instrument. Way to go.

  • Bassoon is more daunting.

  • amazing!

  • is that from rose 32 etudes.. it's very familiar.. im on number 31 now.. 30 is fun to play and 26 is hard.. but once you perfect it it's fun it sounds great... but im talkin about Bb clarinet so idk if you have the same book

  • yep, pretty much all TMEA audition materials for any clarinet come from the rose book.

  • nice. I went to allstate with a bass clarinet in '03. Bass PWNS the alto ;)

  • whoa. nice.

  • that was awesome but i thought alto clarinet was hard

  • is alto clarinet hard cuz i play bass clarinet but it gives me real bad migranes, but I was thinkin of swicthin to clarinet of alto.

  • its a bit harder than bass, because on the bass clarinet there are flaps that go over the key holes, and on clarinet most of the holes are open. this makes it harder to hit some notes, because your fingering has to be precise and not sloppy. too bad mine is very sloppy, and that is why i dont play alto clarinet.

    happy playing

  • Right at the end he stoped playing but the music keep going. What was that about??? It did sound good.

  • i recorded this with my digital camera, which isn't the best quality recorder out there. consequently i got some lag in the video. =(

  • Hey great job! I used to play a mean Bb Contrabass Clarinet in high school...I loved the thing to death! Nothing like hitting the super low notes and feeling the vibrations, lol. Well, keep up the good work!

  • Holy crapnuts. Good job on this. Sounds like a bitch to play :P Lmfao. I haven't played the contraalto, but I did the contrabass, that things big, lol. I feel your pain :P

  • wow. will you be posting anymore videos because the contra clarinet is my favorite instrument. plus you play very well and i would like to here more.

  • Oh, wow. Are you from Texas? Because I had to audition with that same peice. Didn't make state, though ._.

  • yep...

  • Oh, that's cool. I tried out on bass clarinet, but made fourth chair T.T at all-valley. But we didn't have a pre-area, so.. I didn't advance anyfurther

  • what instrument do you play? and who is the composer of that piece.

  • That instrument is huge. Do you have to carry it aroud all day. I play the tenor saxophone and it seems like a load to carry around.

  • yeah i do, and it is quite miserable. -_-u

  • lol, thanks.

  • :D oh my pretty good! My friend plays contraalto too :3. It'd be more interesting to have some dynamics...even if it is an etude. Good job!!
