@seilytaert So that makes it alright that your white ancestors came to my country and raped, kill and slaughter the Māori children and women. SHAME ON YOU.
@seilytaert Oh go the ...on u silly tart. You are obviously just another mainstream redneck who thinks that James Cook discovered NZ and plus the Morioris were here first, right? Right?? Wrong, silly tart, why don't you go learn about Maori history before you make stupid comments. Its because you're half taught that you make ignorant comments like this. Like the saying goes...a little bit of knowledge is a dangerous thing.
fourthly, whats the point in having the treaty if the courts give more weight to the context in which the treaty was signed than the actual document itself, in relation to claims brought beofre the courts today?? fifthly, can somebody tell me where in the treaty it says that maori should get special entry into limited entry courses at tertiary education such as med, law etc ?!?!
@ily2586 There is no clause in Te Tiriti o Waitangi that allows Māori special entry into courses or degrees etc. But, there are specialty institutions and programs running opened to all ethnic groups that specialize in delivering mainstream courses in a kaupapa Māori context. For an example there is a teachers degree where you must be capable of speaking Te Reo Māori for entry. So this is where Te Tiriti o Waitangi has made it possible for Māori to start institutions such as this.
@ily2586 can you name the institute and the courses in question? special entry into limited med school law etc....cause your coments smells of lies.....specifics please!!!!!!!
the actuall signed document was written in maori. no one signed the english version, it was added to the tiriti as an appendex, it is a translation albeit a wrong translation.
@nguha313 care to explain the concept of "alternative entry" offered to maori students undertaking a law degree at the university of otago? - "candidates for alternative entry shall be considered by virtue of their maori decent" quoted from the university's website. maori students are also entitled to extra FREE tutorials, for which pakeha and any other person derivating from that of maori are excluded. imagine the uproar if such programmes catered only to pakeha?
@ily2586 "(c) Admission to the second year Law course is limited to 200 candidates who are eligible by virtue of citizenship of, or permanent residence in, New Zealand."
perhaps its because they have quota to ensure that maori are able to get in. otherwise, just like in the past, the powers that be overlook the maori candidates resulting in an unfair baias towards non maori who have never been part of the old mans club. it also states they must meet a minimum academic standard....
@ily2586 in the 1983 School Certificate statistics it was revealed that candidates sitting the Maori language examination had a pass rate of 37.35% while those sitting Latin, French and German had pass rates of about 80%. The scaling system in these cases operated in such a way that of those children sitting the foreign language examinations 80 out of every 100 candidates were allowed to pass. But of those sitting the Maori language only 38 out of every 100 candidates were allowed to pass.
Parliament overlooks the problem of the hapu who did not sign the Treaty - it was only signed by northern chiefs - what does this mean for the ngai tahu land claims?? Secondly, the Treaty was never ratified. Thirdly, the Treaty was broken by the nz land wars - just as the treaty between Russia and Germany in ww2 was broken when germany invaded russia and attacked.
@ily2586 Chur are you Ngai Tahu? I heard this issue risen before. From what I heard, the British just claimed Waipounamu as theirs just like Hawai'i was claimed by USA. So naturally Waipounamu fell under Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
the south island was claimed by right of discovery by james cook. only the north island was claimed under the treaty. youd know this if you knew what you were talking about. tuhoe never signed the treaty. in our case we made a proclaimation which was accepted in 1871. this was the year tuhoe were granted tinorangatiratanga, mana tangata, mana whenua. all t's crossed and i's dotted.....then what happened to us? they burried the facts keeping people like u in the dark...
@ily2586 the south island was NOT claimed under the treaty of waitangi, it was claimed by proclaimation under the right of discovery by james t kirk, i mean cook. ngai tahus claim was for 10 percent of the south island land they were promised after a number of chiefs sold the south island to some pakeha. its called the kemp deed. they settled their claims in the 90's. many north island tribes never signed the thing either.
The Treaty was supposed to establish NZ as a nation - We would never now think of ourselves as being so far apart, by way of the very thing that was meant to bring us together.
@ily2586 Yes, its a agreement of both partys, British and Tangata whenua o New Zealand. I believe all other ethnic groups would fall under the British group as they came or were allowed here under their wings.
oh so we're bros now.lmao. sorry who are you? haha. Funny you didnt even answer the other question. You better turn around before I take you back to school hahahaha

@montyscooter1965 The Treaty of Waitangi and Te Tiriti o Waitangi is not the same, it has different meanings.
Iwi has always been a concept of Māori. You do not have a clear understanding of iwi, hapū so maybe you should catch with the knowledge we have (Māori) by seeking further education for yourself or avoid the subject. Im sure you will have a better understanding of something else.
@montyscooter1965The concept of Māori has always been around before settlement of the early settlers. Māori means normal, my tupuna always knew they were normal so your understanding of the word Māori also tells me you have a poor education of Māori concepts.
It seems you are too ignorant to understand what sovereignty was for my tupuna. The white way is the right way, that sounds like your understanding of sovereignty.
@montyscooter1965 Wow..who knew there are still people like you out there.. Yes I am Maori and no im not in jail. and I never will be. how do you expect Aotearoa to advance with your closemindedness? how can we practice multicultralism in this country if we cant even get bicultralism right..weve got a long way to go..thanks dude
500+ maori signed a document, in maori to allow the government to govern over their people, pakeha. maori kept their rangatiratanga, as opposed to kawanatanga. they are seperate. the pakeha mistranslation of the signed tiriti is null and void, because it is not a correct translation to the original.
two documents were signed on the day? no bro. just one was signed. that was the maori version. any other version that does not match that one is wrong. you cant ever make a contract, get someone to sign it, then mistranslate that document to mean something completely different and then use that as the offical version. no way. its wrong.a maori rep should be the head of this state, not the queen of new zealand. new zealand only had the right to change laws only if it did not hurt maori interests
read the signed treaty and you can clearly read where it says they maintain their rangatiratanga or mana over their own lands. mana is full and total control over lands and people.
I would suggest to you that i am well educated enough thanks for he concern.
@montyscooter1965 I have been studying at University. You sound like you are stereo typing me by telling me to get a job etc etc. Accusing me of smoking dope is not nice. I never have touched the stuff.
@montyscooter1965 You have poor character of judgement by believing what you believe about me, just like you have poor judgement about the subject of this forum.
@montyscooter1965 And the English did not commit any sins, man I feel sorry for you not knowing your own history.....
We will not get over the treaty as we will be giving into people like you. Te Tiriti o Waitangi is getting us somewhere and you sound worried about our progress.
Wow, I was checking out some of the related videos. Have you ever gone to that house where the treaty was signed. Yes it could start a protest. Make sure you take your camera.
I am from a village called Pawarenga. Waitangi is about a hour drive. I may of been there in my childhood but not in my adult hood. I should go and do some filming. Thanks for the comment
