@Seiku It's from Habib Koite's first album: Muso Ko (1995). It's the very first track of that album. Really good song. I'd like to say that Din Din Wo (Little Child) is great too.
Please never take this video down. I looked up this video and was glad to still see it here after watching it a couple years ago. This music is timeless and I'll still love to hear this years from now.
The song itself is so good but also the acoustics where this was really sound nice.
fatouma is my favorite habib koite song. my wifes family is from mali and some taureg live with them. she knows a little tamesheq and translated some of the song. it reminds me of the love that we have for one another because i also said doum moi toume' to her. and her name is fatouma too. vive habib koite!
Amazing song with beautiful guitar sound! Feel something when I listen to his msic. Good feeling get, Love his music. I want to get CD and is he coming to London soon? Want to listen in the live. Must be great.
Thanks so much. If you can post more, please do. Habib and his band are among my favorite musicians in the world. I first heard them in 1997 and have been in love with their music ever since. They come to Minnesota once every 2 years or so and it's always magical.
Sorry!!! That's what comes from being in a hurry! You don't see your mistakes until they're up there and you can't edit them. The last part of my synopsis should read: "Fatouma, give me your hand Fatouma."
The music, written, like the words, by Habib, is in a "camel gate" rhythm from the area of Mali near Timbouktu.
Thanks again for this video of the group and please keep them coming.
Thank you so much for the translation!!!!! The text is so beautiful! This song was really entrancing. Many many thanks! I will post more as soon as time allows; i do have more from this show. So happy you are enjoying! Best to you. Btw, im sorry for my ignorance, but what language is this in? I don't think its Fulbe... but ireally can't tell! Bambara??? Not Tamashek, i don't think... Go in peace my Friend. Blessings.
What's below is only the bare essence of this great song. A translation from the notes accompanying the CD "MUSO KO" was too long and I had to keep cutting my synopsis to fit it into the permitted length. Hope it helps.
Thanks for the video of my favourite group. This is different from the concerts I've seen and the CDs. More please, especially of ultra-magnificent DjeliMadou Kone on Tama and dancing!!!
The Marabout says "Your dream will be reality. Your Promise is Fatouma, with God's ink in her hand. You will find her somewhere in Mali". I searched the heights, mountains, plains, the Dogon plateau and cities, but didn't see her. I think of beauty hidden in the sands. Nomads tell me of a blue girl who sits in the shade of the hand of Fatouma and there hidden in shadow I found Fatouma with God's ink in her palm. "Fatouma, take my hand Fatouma.
No ! Fatouma isn't me!!!! I attended the show, and filmed from way up at the top of auditorium; this is why the bass is (alas) a bit muddled. I'll try and post more H.K. soon. Got the whole show. So you're in Switzerland right? I was in Berne 2 years ago. A painter friend of mine lives there with his family. Great artist by the name of Franz Roth. If enclined to visit Bxl someday, you've a girlfriend here, gal!
One line in here is in French: "Donnes moi ta main, Fatouma", "Give me your hand, Fatouma"... Perhaps a proposition. When I find out more, I'll post more info. I'll ask a good friend in Mali if he knows. Enjoy Habib K., Troubadour from Mali, a land of many amazing musical talents!
