  • I think it's fabulous!

  • this doesn't look like begginers at all! they are all so good!

  • John, go after Karina, go after Karina.

  • "JOHN, GO AFTER CARINA. GO AFTER CARINA!!!"

  • Oh! I love this its never to late to dance :)

  • when my mother was young she wanted to be a ballerina, but an injury stopped her :(

so when i was about 4 she put me in ballet classes- i fell in love and have been doing it ever since (im 14)

when she came to our showcase i think she fell in love with ballet again also- shes just signed herself up at a nearby-ish studio that ONLY does adult baller classes...

im so proud of her! <3

  • Wow, now I desperately wish I lived in San Francisco so I could take this class! :) You should be so proud of the work that you do.

  • Just ordered this video and I can't wait to watch it! I waited until I was 30 to start ballet... been going about 8 months now and love it! SO NICE to see some inspirational, hopeful things said and done for us "older" beginners!

  • This is awesome! I'm 18 and am starting ballet lessons very soon, but it has been very hard to find adult beginner classes in wellington so I'm forking out a lot for private lessons :( It is great to see adults learning ballet!!

  • As a thirteen year old girl who just started dancing ballet but soon hopes to make it big in contemporary, I love this!

  • This so awesome. I wish there were something like this where I live.

  • Hi, I'm just wondering if your DVD is available for international shipping? would really love to own a copy and extend one to my ballet teacher as well.

  • @rachyyo Thank you for your interest in the DVD! Yes, the DVD is available for International Shipping and we sell them on our northbeachdigital website. Paypal will calculate the shipping costs. Can't post links here, but you can just type northbeachdigital in to your browser. Thanks for sharing with your ballet teacher too!

  • @michelleortega3

What a joyful teacher !!!! that shows what dance and charing of it can do.

I am teaching adults too, beleaved in the effects it can make, and now to see

this group, the students remarks and the teacher; one word of me; adorable !! Thanks, Henk knaap, Amsterdam.

  • Thanks for uploading because then I know what to expect when I start

  • I see all these comments and saw this video and I can't wait to start ballet! I'm 17 and just starting dance, not for a career but even if only for a little I want to one day dance on pointe. I'm thinking that if I'm too old at that point it would be bad for my feet, but I want to try! Thanks for posting!

  • @DeMiRoxmysox02

I started 2 and half years ago. I felt in love with dance, especially ballet, so I started to work really hard, I have classes only 3 times a week, but I work a lot at home, and this year my dream came true and I got on point!!! Ot´s perfect and! never too late!!!

  • @DeMiRoxmysox02 I started in ballet a year ago, when I was 17, and I can say, you're not the only one who wants to be on pointe! Keep rehearsing and practising...you're not old at all!

  • This is great! I want to start classes so badly, but I can't find any adult classes anywhere! :(

  • nice to see men participating too!

  • I am one of Kathy's "adult beginners" since 1998. Her classes are at San Francisco Dance Center. She teaches more classes there than anyone in that studio. I'm truly blessed.

  • Sorry but you said beginners !!!!

  • so inspiring! never stop XD

  • I LOVE IT!!!!! Amazing idea! I want to get back into dance so bad!!!!!

  • is there a ballet school where adults are trained intensively? I am an adult who just finished my rad intermediate with distinction. I know I don't have a ballet career in front of me, but I always dream of becoming really good in ballet. Even though I cannot be a professional, I wish to see me dancing very well like a pre-professional dancer one day. I don't mind spending lots of time training while doing part-time job, but is there any school that is willing to accept me?

  • thats gna be me. gna be so funny. lol. gna try ballet! and i'm 17 and never done it before.

  • Ballet for all!!! Great!

  • OMG, this is amazing. i love dancing but my parents never really put me in any classes when I was younger. I'm 22 and thought it was way too late for me to start ballet. But i guess it's NEVER too late.

  • where exactly (city & state) are these classes taught ??

  • John is epic LOL

  • Okay so I'm 28, no prior experience, and DYING to get into beginning ballet dancing. I've procrastinated b/c I'm getting older and I didn't want to be stuck in class with a bunch of kids. I watched the full-length video and I am TOTALLY INSPIRED! Can't wait to find a local class and get in the game! Thx!

  • I'm gonna be taking adult ballet classes next week, but I'm 15 ,so I might be a bit scared :P

  • wer r u located? wat city n state pls im vry interestd

  • to be honest, having a teacher like that would discourage me :/ i admire all these grown ups though using their spare time to do something fun and what they want to do!

  • FUNN

  • AHAHAHAHA JOHN!

  • Wow, I just saw the whole documentary. So inspiring. I wish that they could import that wonderful lady to N.E. Ohio!!!

  • Many students seem to be way beyond the "beginner" level...

  • i was 17 and worried i wouldnt be able to do ballet. my mind has comepletely changed!

  • I did ballet as a child and passed my pre elementary however I left at elementary level. I regret leaving i am now 37 and I have now found a ballet class for adults near chester (England) but there is only one class a week and as I work shifts it is going to be difficult to attend regularly . My first class will be next week which i am looking forward to. The video post above is fantastic what amazing facilities and a remarkable instructor you are very lucky to have access to both.

  • I like that they are partnering and giving the adults a chance to do pointe work

  • So many adult classes are only about losing weight and not about dancing seriously. I plan to take ballet again as soon as I leave school. It would be nice to find a school that takes adults as seriously as the children.

  • I'm 16 years old and I've always wanted t dance but I've never got the chance to take lessons, this inspires to go for it,if people older than me can start, than so can I

  • @MsKinkyCupcake dudeee im the same way!

  • @MsKinkyCupcake Im the same :) i just dont have the confidece to get out into a dance school :\

  • @MsKinkyCupcake me too

  • Wow! Adults are starting! That's brilliant! I'm 12 and I thought I was wayyy too old!

  • I just saw the whole movie!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you so much for this!!! It's wonderful! AMAZING WORK!!!!! :D :D SOOOOOOOOOO inspiring! i felt like crying in the end :P

  • This is awesome!!!!!!

I started dancing ballet a year ago...so im not very good

    but im learning.

    Check my dancing vids out!

  • This is fantastic! I started ballet as an adult at 20. Now I've been doing it for over 30 years. I want to see this entire documentary.

  • @CedricsMom How wonderful that you've kept up the ballet and thank you for your interest in the documentary! You can see the full documentary on the KQED Truly California website or if you want to purchase a copy of the DVD, you can find out how on our northbeachdigital website.

  • @CedricsMom as a 20 year old you have no idea how encouraging that sounds. It's great that your still doing it over 30 years. I want to start now =] Its such a beautiful art.

  • @CedricsMom Aw, this comment inspires me! I'm 20 years old and JUST started my first ever ballet class last week. So there is hope! :)

  • @CedricsMom That is so cool! I'm 20 right now, and I would love to start..but I have no idea how ):

  • @crazybubbles18 A highly recommended book for adult ballet beginners is "The Joffrey Ballet School's Ballet-Fit." In the meantime, it is a great idea to start looking for studios offering adult beginner ballet class. You can also check a local college/university. Pick a few studios and call & ask if you can observe a class. You can learn a LOT about the studio once you get there. Each school has its own color. The most important is to find the school/studio that makes you feel very comfortable.

  • @CedricsMom Have you ever gotten up on pointe?

  • OMG how weird I just had a class with that lady, what are the odds?!

  • She seems great... I am 22 years old... I am an actress but my love has always been for dance... I want to talk dance full time and learn Ballet, contemporary, musical theatre jazz... Should I go to classes like this one or should I go to college... Music is in my body, I have good flexibility and good turn out, great feet but I need to learn the technique and the different turns and jumps. Any advice?

  • thank you for uploading

thank you Kathy Mata for facilitating these wishes

  • I love this! This is SO INSPIRING!

  • i love this video!! i'm an adult dancer and its so wonderful to see that the world caters for adults who have an interest in abllet!!!! thanks so much for posting, loved it!!

  • I love this

    Keep doing your passion!!!

  • So beautiful! I think it's really nice to give a chance at ones who love danse and cannot learn it in their childhood! (sorry for english,i'm french)

  • Lovely ♥

  • This is so awsome! There are so many people in the dance industry who think adults can't learn anything. This completly proves them wrong.

  • @CheeseCakeLlama3 that is so true, i've start in ballet as an adult and i've advanced a lot in just 2 years, I think age doesn't have to be a problem and, some way, age provides maturity and emotional strength which is very important to study and live ballet!!

  • Are there more clips of this documentary available? It looks fascinating!

  • I'm pleased to announce that 'Adult Beginner Ballet' can now be seen in its entirety on the KQED Truly CA website!

We are also raising funds to get the film distributed to PBS stations nationwide. More information is available on our northbeachdigital website.

  • I don't think there are enough words to express how wonderful I think this is..just...wow that's awesome. :)

  • Beautiful!!!
