  • He's like Tony Jaa on crack.

  • thats it, i'm moving to indonesia now.

  • Silat is the type of KungFu used in the Matrix movie minus the cgi...love all the fighting & you can OnDemand in CaLi!;0)

  • is this ong bak or what?

  • 1:55 .. LOL

  • ong bak

  • Beautiful and Awesome movie !

This guy kick ass ! and the film shows that there are still good people in the world

Asians should make more movies like this and Ong Bak, I wonder how many martial arts should exist in Asia and how cool they are!

  • this dude can kick my ass

  • hes like the younger brother of tony jaa lol

  • Again, a MUST SEE for all who love martial arts and movies with m. arts with a good love story mixed.

Can't wait to see it on DVD from start to finish. Def. a rainy day movie!

    FIVE STARS ALL THE WAY!!!!!

  • I had never seen this actor before. He's awesome and I must say a true HOTTIE and SOOO SEXY!!!! This movie has def. put him on the track and map to the road to super stardom. The end wasn't a shocker but I have to admit I wish it hadn't ended the way it did. I had a feeling something was going to happen (don't want to give the ending away to anyone who hasn't seen it). But for the kind of movie it is (storyline and all). The ending was inevitable. It was actually perfect although beyond sad!

  • Started watching this movie a little past half way through the movie. Hate that because as good as it was I wish I could've seen the WHOLE movie from start to end. So now I will need to buy the DVD to see it in its entirity. It was a really good movie. One reason I like Asian movies is because they are LONG! They really have excellent stories behind all the fighting so it's not just the fighting you see through out. There is a wonderful beautiful love story underlying. It's truly a MUST SEE!

  • killa

  • I loved the movie, the story, the naration, the action. very different from that we ussually see.

  • what is the music in the trailer...?

  • guys, you are arguing over the story structure of a fucking kung fu movie. it's a kung fu movie, just watch it and know the badassery.

  • new breed of action my ass tony jaa wanna be.

  • @avreeves

stupid comment from tony jaa fans wanna be

iko and tony jaa have a different MA skills...they're both good

its gonna be better if we can see them act together at the same movie rather than comparing them,,

  • @neeyrose not the styles, its the movie structure that was a ong bak ripoff, i cant stand that kinda stuff, evry action sequence he set up he took right from ong bak and just used a differnent MA, i was like wth, if u have somthing unique dont use someone elses story, find your own way.

  • @avreeves i think u kno im right, u see he set up his action sequences identical to ongback, uses similar camera angles, the list goes on...just let it go man he copied.

  • @avreeves i think,we don't know exactly whether they copied or not.we r not the maker of that movie.when they did.So What!???at least, they did it well.the word "getting inspiration" is much better than "copying",i think.

if u say copying,it seems that u r too fanatic with ong bak and u dont like to see another made the same thing.im sorry,im not trying to judge u.i just shared my opinion.thanks....

  • @neeyrose oh and they also copied jackie chan, wtf iko

  • @avreeves u should understand clearly before u wanna give a comment about something.

many viewers think that the story or whatever about merantau movie copied from ong bak.but u should know

that merantau is a traditional way of west sumatra ppl's men to explore another place in order to prove their maturity and it happens until now.it seems merantau copied from ong bak cause ong bak made it earlier than merantau.

  • @DKsaNn7 Think before you speak! It`s not even a tony jaa's copying thing. Im one of the fans of ongbak n tony jaa's martial arts movie. And it's obvious that Merantau is really different from those. Just watch the movie to catch the sense instead!

  • wtf, copying TONY JAA!

  • MOVIE INDONESIA!!

    LanjutGAN!!

  • Can't help saying that the fight with the two European brothers is awesome! That's Silat he uses.

  • Awesome! This guy is a real expert, combatant. The movements are different from kungfu when Iko fights on containers and in the elevator. In the container fighting scenes, the silat movements appear. He also never punches, does he. He just does breaking, kicking, and throwing. In the elevator fight, I could see Silat movements are very effective as it's like fighting in a small container. But i'm no expert, just appreciate the good fight. Awesome!

  • @KidDynamite40: Arm spinning is natural when you don't exert power in your arms in this. The purposes are, as @dhimaschannel01. said, for readiness. It's also for speed response for different style & effective energy conserve. Typical in silat. The punch is short-distance and so are movements, making use of the opponent's energy. In kungfu, while there are short punches, you also stretch your arms a lot . My husband does silat and I do kungfu. Sorry for bad english.

  • is REAL FROM INDONESIA!!! :D

  • Thank you guys for putting Pencak Silat on the screen!!!! the down side of real silat on film is that people think its fake or its too fast and subtle for people to realize what is happening, just like real silat!!! this is a great movie and Im looking forward to "The Raid" Keep up the great work!

  • Ini juga keren, sutradara dan aktor yang sama dengan The Raid

  • IKO UWAIS SHOULD BE THE NEXT JET LEE

  • if you all do not know martial "Silat" you just need 1. Go to Google 2. Search for "Silat". or asked to "Wikipedia", the problem was finished. hahahaha

  • BEST FILM.....!!!!!

  • 2:42

  • 2:43

  • The latest work of Gareth and Iko (Both are Dir and lead actor of MERANTAU) called "THE RAID" is out. It premiered at TIFF2011 Toronto few days ago and praised highly by critics and action fans. It's thousand times more action and more deadly than what you've seen in Merantau (or any action movies in decades). SONY has acquired the right for US market and hired Mike Shinoda of LP to retouch the musical score.

Please check "THE RAID"'s trailer here in YouTube. It's f*king awesome =D

  • @sempoyon82 Frikkin' Sony also acquired the rights to make a Hollywood remake. Lame.

  • @neoAlchemist684 and hollywood ver will be action movie for kids :D which will be complatly trash like all remakes :D becouse they want it for all audience not like orginal for small group of ppl ;>

  • @sempoyon82 watched the Raid at Sundnace. Best time i've ever had in a movie theatre. Hands down, it blew Tony Jaa out of the water, best action film ever.

  • What the fuck, every comment on here is promoting the same site

  • This looks like the first Ong Bak movie all over again. "Boy leaves for the big city to find himself, gets mixed up in mob business, mob wants to kill him, he kills the mob etc etc." Gonna give it a shoot though.

  • Religion is for tards

  • This look like a bad ass film it has loads of action mech armor nazies, what more do you haters want if you can't like this film then dont watch it. If you like it you can find it on sitemoovis.co.cc already.

  • I DEFINITELY HATE SPAMMERS! IF ANYONE FLAG THIS,MAY THEY GO TO HELL...

  • this right

  • الحمد الله شي جميل يشرح الصدر

  • i watched this film yet and i love the film

  • @doga201 Tony Jaa is a great acrobat and gymnist and an ok actor. Pencak SIlat is a real killing art, it doesnt look pretty and its main aim is to disable or kill... You are comparing apples to bananas...

  • in this movie the fight technics ist this the true pencak silat?

  • @Balkanac1981 yes it is : )

  • Tony jaa should be making movies like these.

  • everytime watching this and the movie made me homesick to my parent's kampoeng (hometown) West Sumatra

  • confirmed its been copies from Jackie Chan movies.

  • no1 can beat tonijaw...

  • Recommend me any latest silat video please..

  • uuooooooooo TONY JA ..... quien es este tipo como se llama.. es muy parecido a tony...

  • @markitos9697 his name s IKO UWAIS and he seems to Tony JAA actually ......this martial art it's called SILLAT or PENCAK , PS

  • uau...100% fight action

  • This was truly an amazing movie. I read that Kung Fu Cinema gave it a 4.5/5 and I was curious. It definitely deserved it and as such I highly recommend Merantau to any fan of the martial arts genre.

  • this movie is AMAZING!! Silat is an amazing art. just when i thought watching Tony Jaa was sick. heard this guy has a new movie coming out. cant wait

  • Hehhmm...Indon oh Indon...tak sudah2 dgn budaya menciplak kamu!Belajar lah utk menjadi kreatif sendiri tanpa menciplak karya org lain.

  • @RokanMonceh menjiplak karya siapa bang?...kau pikir macam malaysia ya? tak da budaya sendiri...PM kau yang sekarang pun keturunan orang bugis-indonesia, cakap tak pakai pikir, budak melayu bodoh macam kau ni mesti tahu sopan santun kepada saudara yang lebih tua macam Indonesia...

  • INDONESIA MALAYSIA budayanya sama,,,jangan kelahi lagi.....

    hehee... ^__^

  • penchak silat

gave u art, speed accel, efisien with deadly strike 2 ur enemy spotted weak body.

  • how to follow

  • film yang sangat keren, mengangkat budaya indonesia, semoga pencak silat makin berjaya

  • why does he always spin his arms when fighting?

  • @KidDynamite40 maybe that's his style?

  • @KidDynamite40 I'm not what are you refering to by spinning his arms? but I will assume it as "kembangan", which is known as hand moves is Silat stances. they are using it a lot. I like it, I think it adds esthetics in their moves, also it acts as guard and readiness to attack.

  • This movie is a poor mans Ong Bak. The man character looks like Tony Jaa, dresses, and kinda fights like Tony Jaa, Ive seen these moves before and a lot better. I just found myself uninterested in the main characters purpose (whatever it was) or the cliché damsel in distress(whoever she was). if you love Ong Bak you probably won't like this movie because It'll feel like it's ripping the movie off

  • this was actually pretty good even though it had a weak plot.

    real nice fights......

  • the plot and story is crap but great movie if you like fast paced hand to hand combat

I dont understand w/e language this is...well just watch the fight

    8/10 for action

  • This movie made me cry. :(

  • Awesome movie. If you liked ong bak than merantau will be right up your alley.

  • It was an okay movie. I still like Tony Jaa

  • hes like Tony jaa,but where is he from ?

  • @mrActionpack

Hes from Jakarta Indonesia. He was a driver & do Pencak Silat as a hobby.

  • woah. nice la. 1:53 stunt memang hebat. nak tengok movie nie.

    grats indonesia. -from malaysia.

  • @wefsaf33 thanks from indonesia - keep the respect, especially to your `abang` (big brother) indonesia ok, cheers ^^

  • You can wait "Serbuan Maut (The Raid)" by the same director who made Merantau, Gareth H Evan. Plus, the same main actor from merantau, Iko Uwais. The Raid will be out on January 2012

  • @Mrcrazya55 I will there for the premiere ^^

  • bused, banyak yang komen bule ye ~

ato ni orang indo super duper jago bahasa inggris ?

  • Epic movie would include him, tony jaa, and donnie yen.

  • It definitely looks like a "Jackie Chan" movies

  • ITS ON NETFLIX!!!!

  • what are they? ethnicity wise

  • @DOOKITdookit They are Southeast Asians my friend. Indonesians to be precisely. :)

  • @DOOKITdookit merantau means going aboeard from your born place to find a better life and life experience, in the past indonesian young men going aboard to the neighbouring region (that become philipine, malaysia, singapore, southern vietnam and southern thailand in the modern world) bringing their Martial Arts (which is Silat). thats why youll find MAs of south east asian maritime mainly under the influence of indonesian silat. History lesson for your information ^^

  • fyi silat born in the region that now day is indonesia, period. now you all know about the merantau culture in our tribal, then youll realize that there is some MA in the SEA is actually silat, ex:kali of philipine.

  • Just saw this movie on NetFlix and it was horrible.. Well let me tell you what happend before you get upset. The frames were horrible with double and even trible resampling trails. Gave it a terrible soft motion blur which I hate. Who ever re-rendered this movie for playback on netflix did a terrible job. I'm going to complain about it. This trailer has way better clean, and crisp frame rate.

The movie started very nice but then started to look like Onk Bak. But I saw the whole movie :)

  • Did anyone else start laughing as soon as they saw the dude grab the clothesline in the last scene?

Yes, this is the Indonesian Ong Bak. It's still fucking awesome.

  • @Kantzarakos the jumps looks fake hahah... it's like watching those old video games... XD the fights are too slow... really slow...

  • People need 2 make more movies like this. Showcasing more lesser-known martial arts. Whether it'll b Silat, Capoeira, Eskrima, Savate, etc. Doing so would open people's eyes 2 the vast array of fighting styles found throughout the world.

  • q massa

  • @seven47katana Great,now i won't see this moovie! just great! -.-

  • @seven47katana awesome spoiler, glad i watched the movie before i saw this. lol

  • Whoa! Looks Awsome

  • Merantau is a traditional custom of exile practiced by minangkabau people for centuries in order to emancipate themselves. Interesting custom. Anyone correct me please. Thanks...

  • @einc70

    That is correct.. :-)

But the tradition also practiced by other Indonesian ethnics, particularly the Javanese and Makassar/Bugis people, though not as strict as the Minangkabau's (Minangese).

The Javanese, Minangese, Makassar/Bugis people carried the tradition for centuries. They are the ancestors of Melayu people outside Indonesia.

  • @salahakan thanks..

  • 1:54 = sick

  • eselam alekum to all indonesian brothers

  • Good movie!

  • tony jaa is better than this motherfucker.

  • in the real movie they deleted the scene wich shows that they're muslim....fucking racists

  • @aa1simo93 because silat is a hindu-buddhist heritage from the hindu buddhist period of Indonesia, not the muslim period..... the muslim period of Indonesia does not give anything of international significance to Indonesia's current culture and tradition, my friend.... it's just arabic colonization of the mind.....

  • @sanowasi i don't likethe way you think...the director have the right to put anything he wants in the movie and no one have the rights to delete any scene but if it offences someone

  • @aa1simo93 yes my friend the director have cut that scene and probably put it in the extras feature in the DVD release. It's the director's decision. I'm not sure why, but from my understanding, it's because he wants to promote silat, not islamism.... further maybe because Islam is not native to Indonesia and does not reflect the silat's history.... i agree that the scene should be removed from the movie, because without that scene, the movie becomes neutral to all movie market.... :-)

  • @sanowasi is the cristanism born in europe or in usa ? no ;) so your point is wrong...and how does it promot islamism ? it just promot racism...in most movie there are cristians and buddist annotations..but it's alright...so why delete it when it's muslims ?

  • @aa1simo93 okay maybe i should put it through a different perspective.... i think it's a good decision to remove the scene, because if the director put annotations to any religion in a movie which contains violence, it will damage the religion's image by making the audience thinks that the religion promotes violence... you don't want that, do you.... :-) movie is just movie man.... let's just enjoy it and not mix with any religion! :-)

  • @sanowasi now i agree with you man ;) :D you're right it's better anyway...i really enjoyed the video...and i definitly think you're a very good duy ;)

  • @sanowasi now i agree with you man ;) you're right...it's even better and i really enjoyed the movie like you said...and i definitly think you're a great guy :)

  • @sanowasi Come on...the guy got martial arts....he wants to help the helpless...if he avoid violance, he would have end up dead... In life threatening situation, the act of violence is inevitable.

  • @lionwrath78 you might be misunderstood because we were talking about the removal of the scene where he prayed in arabic way..... :-) the violence is ok....

  • I JUST SAW IT....IS AWESOME!!!!!

  • Very good. 9 / 10. Song is at the beginning of a very nice name?

I do not know what you have iht Tonny Jaa crazy. Donnie Yen is the best.

  • lame. looks too staged and under choreographed, also trying too much to be like ong bak and tony jaa.

  • @tech4156

It was ok. I liked the fact that it was a lil more 'realistic' in the sense that if you try to fight 15 dudes, more than likely you're gonna get your ass kicked.

  • @tech4156

but it's still better than almost every movie that have been produced in Indonesia.

  • @rezarahardian not really ive seen maybe 3 other martial arts movies from indonesia that have been better

  • @tech4156

    "Almost" I said :D

  • Good choreographed scenes, but you see its just a movie and thats not good. The whole set-up and fighting scenes reminds to much of Ong Bak, they could have done that a little bit different. But its still a good work, you did your best and thats what really matters!

  • If it were not so slow, it would be really great...

and a better camera would have been good...

    the rest is nice.

  • onk bank again?

  • silat campur muai thai...ini tony yaa nya indonesia

  • 2:36

  • where can i to download this movie?

  • @MrKkattil e mule!

  • ...Tony Jaa is the best, this is one boring copy.

  • shit movie

  • indonesia mengangkat budaya silat ke persada dunia menerusi filem ini ! congrats Indonesia !

  • I love Asian action films.

    Just thought I'd share that.

  • i love this movie

  • Slow and nothing we haven't seen before.

  • Harimau silat is the best, this movie from my village, west sumatra,

    so i think it's a very'' a good movie, ,,

  • 2.43 was SO BRUTAL.

  • great to see Silat start to gain notoriety, like Kali/Escrima.

  • tres bien mais en dessous de ong-bak

  • Not bad but needs improvement! =) keep it up. -Elijah, Singapore

  • de la merde quand je voie ce film j'ai l'impression de voir une parodie de jackie chan et tony jaa arrêter de faire des film pour ressemblé un autre film sérieux .

originalité on veux des nouveaux film avec d'autres caractère .

  • great

  • comcépouri

  • i know silat style gayong but i don't know what it's mean gayong
