  • Is there a way to use this chip as an alternative to 4017? I don't want to drive LED's instead I want to make an audio sequencer with each ouput applying voltage to a different resitor and back to 555 etc..(plenty more videos on this) but I can not find 4017 where I live, although 4026 is VERY easy to find....I do however like the thought of also running the clock display while my sequencer runs for added touch....

  • so this will count ''automatically'' with a clock input, i don't need a darlington, and a 4017, and loads of shit? sweetness

  • @amando96

nope. that's it. all you need

  • @davidbball13 cool, is it made for common cathode, or anode displays?

  • nice work

  • hey, were did you get the 4026? I can't find one!

  • @Flea5000000000

You'll have to mail-order, unfortunately Radio Shack doesn't have all the 'goodies' like they used to :P

  • cool

  • I think the digit 6 should have no segment A, and I think the digit 9 should have no segment D.

  • Many people believe that. This is how the IC is designed

  • How come it doesn't suffer from the flicker that is common in the 4026 setup? Or is the camera not able to pick it up?

  • I have never heard of flicker from a 4026. Even in person I have never noticed it. No matter what the frequency I have them running at I have not seen any flickering

  • @Richaarddd to the best of my understanding, the flickering comes from multiplexing multiple 7 segment LED displays together. it looks like he's using one IC per display instead of multiplexing, so no issue of flickering should be had.

--now I've noticed on my 4026 experiments, that the IC makes the display "blink" when changing numbers.

replying a year later, I hope it is still relevant, or at least accurate. had more to say, but out of space here.

    @davidbball13

    nice breadboard work!

  • you have schem?

  • No I don't, All I did was follow the data sheet and use the divide 10 pin on the chip
