  • teller is a shit head!!!!

  • best trick i've seen in a while...not the most mystifying, or technical...but DEFINITELY the most fun

  • 3) He is one ugly mother fucker.

  • should've just smashed the box with the mallet...

  • If i were Penn i would have samshed the damn box with THE HAMMER!

  • The dude is hilarious xD

  • But consider this. To be a loaded die it would have to have been 5 *different* loaded dice to come up with 5 different numbers. Note it never gave the same number twice either. Perhaps he had different loaded dice and found a way to switch them out with each go. The actual mechanism of the loading could be that the opaque bottom surface of the box is magnetic and attracts one of the faces of the die but they'd still have to switch out dice to get the 5 different numbers.

  • @dunbar9finger It did give the same number twice, Ross just rerolled.

  • The trick wasn't the greatest, but the banter was awesome.

  • so its an opposite-loaded dice?

  • It would have been better if jonathans phone was in his pocket: "you admit to blah blah blah, and you pit your phone In a bag, so why is it still in your pocket?"

  • That's a little disappointing. So, the dice is fixed. So what? They didn't explain the trick.

  • @BuBBaGump014 They never explain the whole trick, but the highest rated comment got it right. The Die he gave to the host was switched to a die that doesn't have the number that the envelope is in. The die without a 1 on it actually had 6s on 2 sides.

  • Wait, he didn't fool them, i couldn't hear what Jonathan said.

  • you no what would be even better, if in the number 5 envelope he pulled out the wrong phone then reached into his pocket and it was the iPhone

  • Nigel Thornberry?

  • at 2:40 he grabs 2 things from under the table, watch his hand. one is box the other is the new dice

then when putting the dice in the box he switches them, watch his right hand, he always keeps it closed with the dice by the ring/pinky finger area

  • @hungeredone

but then where does the first die go?

  • @zezema535 it was slight of hand he switched the die and put it in his pocket

  • WoW.

  • WoW.

  • lol brilliant execution.."number six...okay you do that one" lulz particularly good with American audiences Im sure XD

  • hes not that good at magic tricks cuz he is going really fast so that no one will notice or look to carefully at what he is doing

  • Its a loaded die la

  • OMG! i died @ 5:57 ! this guy is a funny man xD

  • lol theres no number 1 on this dice, thats why they called him " so lucky"

  • Mark Shortland is a funny guy! The trick was predicable, but the performance was great! :O) ★★★★★

    Katalyzt

  • He is one ugly motherfucker.

  • @GSNRecords Well he is brittish

  • @GSNRecords well im sure his sorry that he doesnt conform to your standards.

  • Singular it's "die" not "dice."

  • I think the trick is fairly obvious, all the details you need have already been said in the comments. That , said I love the Trick just because of it being a mobile phone and the smashing part :)

  • penn had too much fun with that mallet

  • The envelopes and stickers are the trick. Chances are the sticker is switched by order of the die roll to elimination. Obviously if the iphone was in the 5 and 5 was rolled the sticker changed envelopes hence why the sticker was peeled up on both sides at the end of the trick

  • even if the die is fixed i still dont get it cause the envelopes and sticker seem random..?

  • @kerron68 When the macician mixes the envelopes again, he feels which phone is heavier and then looks which number is placed on this envelope. As it was envelope no. 1 he changes the die to a prepared one never showing 1. That's all he has to do ;)

  • @MagicianDP i actually thought he just changed the sticker on the envelope according to the die

  • it's a die! die!!!

  • and then he drops it lol

  • 65,000th viewer

  • The look on his face, 'can we look at the box' what a Bell-End Mark is. How he thought a 5 year old kids trick would fool them, nobody will ever know.

  • I'd like to see this trick done with penises and blowjobs instead of phones and mallets.

  • This trick would've been useless if those were Nokia 3310s

  • @TehRakblad

well, i guess you can put hammers in the envelopes and smash them with Nokia 3310s...

  • It's all in the fact the host saw which phone his was in, he focused on his phone, he made a big show of putting 1 on his phone. it's all in psychological. The die is weighted to where 1 will never show up.

  • fuck you, in the neck.

  • I suspect that the magician can tell immediately while shuffling which numbered envelope contained the real phone. Perhaps the die was weighted to omit a certain number depending on which side was face down. But the host was the one holding the box. What could prevent the host from lifting the box the wrong way? Also: maybe the magician weights the box to force a certain number not to appear.

  • VERY SIMPLE:

    1) 2:21 - He sees which envelope is the heavier, since the others don't have battery. Now he know in which envelope the phone is.

    2) 2:40 - After putting the numbers on it, he goes underneath the table and choose a dice - from 6 different dices - which will never face the one of the number.

  • @pitombex my guessing is at 1:44 he takes a look at the "extra" envelope which will contain the Iphone; he actually wrote "Random" on purpose on each envelope, not exactly the same way (slightly different a, or m or R etc..) so he can tell which is which. the original die is regular (on 0:31 you can cleraly see the number 1 next to his thumb)

the like you said on 2:40 he chooses the right die with no "1" on it , on 2:48 he put the selected die from underneath the table instead of the original

  • @ilsontfouscesromains Yeah, he does take a peek, but that seems a little risky to bet on, so I'm not sure if that is all. I think he "feels" every phone inside the bags when he mixes up the bags (see he does a mix up himself "to make sure") and simply checks which one isn't his. He may also have asked the producers what kinda phone Ross has too, so that he can bring different shaped phones. Then he sees which sticker goes on Ross' phone and uses the right die for the trick.

  • @ilsontfouscesromains

You're right, he does switch the die. Didn't see that first time.

  • @pitombex - nope - its simpler - he LOOKS which is the remaining envelope - the writing is different on each, then he sees which number sticker is placed on it - then he switches the dice for one (of 6 possibles) that doesnt have that number on it.

  • @pitombex i see.. but how do you get a rigged dice?

  • @pitombex ross grabbed a box from under the table. Host had the die for the trick and then it went straight into the box though.

  • @JustBecauz He took the die to put it in the box, he could have been palming the rigged one.

  • @pitombex the dice was the same from the begining the other guy put it in it has to be soemthign wth the box

  • @threex1 its not Jonathan who puts the dice in the box, he does, and he switches it.

  • @pitombex The dice was choosen before they put the numbers on the envelopes. He picks the box to put the dice in under the table while the dice he's using is allready on the table.

  • @Karlssonspojken ever heard of slight of hand?

  • @pitombex The die was already out... that was the first thing he showed. So your number 2 is wrong.

  • @soadpwnsyou he switched the dice. Very well done, but he did it.

  • @soadpwnsyou he switches the die though. watch when he puts it into the box

  • Comment removed

  • @pitombex Only problem, at 0:37 he gives the die to Johnathan Ross. Could still be weighted or double numbered though.

  • @q1s2c3r4 He's a magician, he keeps things hidden in his hand for a living. He merely grabs the rigged die under the table, keeps it hidden between his ring and pinkie fingers, and puts it in the shaker the moment he gets the unrigged die from John.

  • @q1s2c3r4 Slight of hand. He took the correct dice at 2:40 from under the table and has it in his right hand at 2:45. Notice how his little finger is curled up and how eager he is to take the dice, rather than give the cube to Ross. What I can't quite see, is where he disposes of the original dice. Maybe he has it palmed until he reaches for the hammer?

  • @mbarkhau You can see the die on the table the entire time from when he takes it from the host and puts it into the cube. Also, if it was cupped in his hand, the host could see it, since it's a glass cube.

  • Comment removed

  • @q1s2c3r4 he replaces the dice when Jonathan gives back to him

  • @pitombex You dont think they might have looked under the table?

  • Comment removed

  • @pitombex He uses the die that had been sitting on the table the entire time. The host hands it to him after picking it up off the table lol.

  • Im guessing that all the phones does not contain any battery, and that makes a phone very light. Exept the hosts phone. As you can see when Penn is bashing the phne there is no battery inside the cover. So he feels the weight difference.

  • When the host puts his phone in an envelope and mixes up the phones, Mark Shortland comes and mixes them up a little bit, allowing him to easily tell which phone it not one of the ones he gave him (all the phones were similar). This allows him to know which envelope has the phone that's not his, and he can clearly see which numbers are put on each envelope. He then reaches for a dice and picks the one without the number of the envelope with the guys phone.

  • I have to say this is a really good effect. The audience participation is great. The only thing is he BETTER not get the wrong envelope. hahaha... nice nice.

    LIKE A BOSS

  • What kind of TV show host leaves their phone - on - in their front pocket during filming?

  • Will people fuck off saying he did this he done that if you know you ti do it. Do it and use your own phone.

  • I tried to think about what I meant in my comment, but no luck :( Sorry, I have no idea what I wanted to point out :D

  • C-C-C-C-COMBO BREAKER!.. No, really, 4 replies to me?! Wow. That probably means I was wrong which would be obvious since I was totally high (watching Penn & Teller while being high is pretty entertaining to me, but of course I do watch them while being OK too). Now I am going to read (probably funny) what I wrote before, and you replies. Thanks :D

  • Jonathon Ross really made this one entertaining. The smashing didn't hurt either!

  • the die itself is loaded

  • 1/2 At 2:22 he mixes the phones up himself. All the phones he brought where with buttons on them but the hosts phone is new and is a thoutch phone with no puttons on it. So when he mixes them himself at 2:22 he finds the hosts phone.

  • @THEthordurrafn But then, Jonathan put stickers on them randomly, Mark couldn't affect that (probably :D)

  • @vojmor He grabs the dice at 2:48 he could of easily changed the dice so it hasn't got the particular number that the phone. He could have 6 of these dice underneath the table and picks the particular one up when he picks up the shaker and if you watch his hands carefully when he is putting the dice in the shaker it looks like he is passing something to his other hand.

  • @callum2112 Indeed, before 2:48, his hand is in position like he is hiding something in it. It sure looks like he switched the dices at 2:48. But then, I can't see a single sign that he is still hiding the original dice somewhere, though it looks like he is putting something in his pocket at 2:56. Most accurate solution I could come up with yet. :)

  • @vojmor It does not matter the number that Jonathan puts on the envelopes. Mark knows what evelope the phone is in. You can see he puts that envelope not in the pile. Honathan puts the number on and if he had put the number 5 on that envelope Mark would have taken the dice that had not the number 5 on it. At 2:42 you can see Mark get the box and the dice he needs from under the table. And you can see how he needs to put the dice in the box.

  • @THEthordurrafn I can't tell if he switched dices perfectly or what, but all I see is dice being on table from 1:06 . All I can see he is taking from under the table is empty box. Jonathan then gives Mark that dice, and Mark put it in the box. :O

  • @vojmor Pause at 2:31 and look how the letter A is written on each envelope. That was the one Jonathan put his phone in and it was also at the bottom o the original stack so that it would be the only one left over when he finished putting the 5 original phones in.

  • @letoxy Well, Jonathan shuffled them a little before Mark could see them all with phones inside them. Could he know how he shuffled them? And I have no idea what you mean by "how letter A is written on each envelope. That was the one Jonathan put his phone in" Maybe my english isn't great, but it looks to me like you adressed to all envelopes with letter A in word "Random" and then you are talking about single one? (MIND = BLOWN) :/

  • @vojmor He hasn't written "Random" the same way on each package. When it is noticed that he only has given 5 phones, he looks to see which package (writting) is yet to be filled and therefoe the one that will hold the spectator phone. The stickers are then applied, and he then knows which die to add to the plexiglas cube. the rest is all comedy.

  • @Gastel There are more ways he could identify the right one envelope, but i have to agree with the rest :P

  • 2/2 And then at 2:31 we can see that one of the envelopes is not in the pile. The host is not in on it and puts the nr. 1 on that envelope. Then at 2:41 when he takes the box he has 6 cubes that are missing one number from 1 - 6. He takes the cube that is missing the number 1, and at 2:49 he puts that cube in himself. there you have it.

Þetta er nú ekki svo flókið ;)

  • He knows that the host's phone will be in the envelope which was initially at the bottom of the pile. from 2:31 and 5:29, you can see that envelope 1 has an open "D", the rest are closed. What I'm curious about is that when one of the phones flew out, he said it wan't Jonathan's because it was white. He would know that it wasn't Jonathan's, but how does he know they aren't both white. His back was meant to be turned the whole time it was out.

  • he is lucky because he got laid aside from his bad looks and that terrible shirt

  • penn is huge lol

  • well there was a distraction

  • I was hoping he would pull out a phone that wasn't the hosts and then said "Just kidding" and he pulls it out of his pocket.

  • Comment removed

  • so my guess is that he performed a switch while placing the die into the shaker. And it seems like the host had complete say over which envelope gets which sticker (I'm assuming the host isn't helping out). This means that he must have had 6 different dice that he could have used to make that switch. And he seems to have accessed the correct one at 2:43 and kept it in his hand. All this of course assumes that while shuffling the envelopes he was able to figure out the "new" phone.

  • also notice when he first put the stickers on the envelopes, the winning envelope 1 is separated from the rest. when he shuffles them himself, he sorts out the envelopes according to outdated phones and assumes that the host has the iphone. although i'm not sure how you'd do it with glasses.

  • When Penn says that he is so so so lucky does Penn mean that that guy just relied on plain luck? The only reason I'm asking is that he risked a lot if he honestly just relied on luck.

  • @andyrooney12 No he means he's figured it out, and mark knows he has. He's just trying to not give away the trick, to anyone who still hasn't figured it out.

  • @andyrooney12 He was covering for him. He didn't want to give the solution away, but it is definitely implied.

  • @andyrooney12 lol , you failed

  • @andyrooney12 no no, he was lucky because when penn went up there to reveal the trick and the die kept showing 6 instead of showing 2,3,4,5 also.. thats what he meant by lucky..

  • ok so there isn't a 1 on the die or whatever, but he didn't number the envelopes. wth

  • Sponsored by Nokia.

  • funny guy.

  • 7:20 you can see the number 4 twice!

  • @avdald I think that was 5

  • Talk about lucky where was he in the movie Intacto...

  • wossys got an iphone4

  • amazing performance

  • On his person Mark has 6 loaded dice. The reason he doesn't want to let them see the dice is because the dice is loaded. It does not roll 1. Each envelope is marked and when John tells him thier is one left over he looks back to check which envelope it is. He then watches which number is placed on that envelope, and then grabs a corresponding loaded die out and switches it for the other dice.

  • @TheUnsungOne The die aren't loaded, they just have a missing number on each of them, so when he sees it go into number 4 he uses the die that doesn't have number 4 on it.

  • When he said `it doesn't come out of the box" I was waiting for Penn to take it and use the mallet again haha

  • He made it a point to touch all the envelopes and shuffle them after. He had five phones all shaped alike, as old outdated phones. The assumption is that whatever phone he was given would be the one phone that felt different. I'd have to watch a second time to figure out how he ensured the #1 would be on that envelope, unless he swaps the die for the number of the envelope he knows he has to work with after feeling them.

  • @enderandrw the envelope the host places his phone in is marked.(pause @ 2:31). You can see the "A" in random is slightly different than the rest. He shuffles them just to keep his eye on it while the host places the numbers. Then he palms a marked die from under the table and does his switch. Simple as that!

  • @todumbtosee he shuffled the envelopes before putting his in. It must be when he mixes them up more before putting the numbers on that he figures out which one it is.

  • @todumbtosee actually I watched again and he turned around and looked at the envelope.

  • all it's proven is that the dice is rigged. so it doesnt roll to 1. but how could he possibly know that the j phone's was on 1?

  • @darkartconceptz Could be that the box was rigged to change what the die could land on maybe?

  • @TheCheeseySmurf : nah. i dont think so. i know how the dice was rigged because i know how to do it. but what i dont know is how did the mark shortland know that jonathan's phone is on envelop 1?

  • hahahahhahahhaahahahhahhahahahahahaahhaahhahaahahhahaha

  • He still shouldn't have known which envelope had the phone . . . Even if his die was rigged, there must have been a guarantee that it would end up in 5, but i don't know what it is . . .

  • @paulusvii97 He did touch the envelopes, and the other phones would have felt nothing like an iPhone.

  • @TheCheeseySmurf I forgot about that, but then he says later in the video that he's done the trick with glasses. Feeling them up wouldn't be fool-proof enough for a stage performance. Damn, I love being baffled, but I want to know eventually!

  • @paulusvii97 Thats true. Wellp.

  • lol. I love Mark's expression when Penn asks to look at the dice. Its tough to fool them.

  • Die switch, pretty easy, at least I think.

  • The last clip didnt show the penn & teller thoughts and result, therefore iam here

  • @Roosterium same heree
