  • wtf!!!!!!!? thats the biggest band ive ever seen omg

  • @gtfomybrbk Drum Corps, not band. And there's 12 of them.

  • @sgtm1775 There are actually 13. On the far left side, outside of the end zone, you'll see the winner of open class/division 2 from that year.

  • @MBlood08 Just kidding. That's the Cavaliers. The division 2 winner must be on the other side.

  • @MBlood08 The Academy? I marched them this season. I think they won div 2 in 2005.

  • Imagine for a second if 2011's Final's fanfare was '03 Phantom's opening...Or ending for that matter. =D

  • @Phantom034

My brain would max out its endorphins and I would never be able to feel any joy again.

  • @BIGOMAR93 the whole middle-end section is simple gifts

  • 1 word, .... beautiful<3

  • LOL "its loud as fuck right now "

  • This is the best, by far.

  • it feels so good right now to be a brass player right now i just want to hug my baritone

  • And this is why I will some day march drum corp.

  • This is amazing all the corps playing together that's gotta be ear drum shattering

  • Summon the Heroes?

  • when that low brass came in... O . M . G .

  • How do you get all those musicians to play together and sound so goood.

When they are spread across the stadium???

  • @MrMhel2009 They're musical demi-gods.

  • So much better than 08 retreat...

  • i bet you they were like.... ZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzz.... O_O!!!!! HAHAHAHAHHA.... wish i were there. :(

  • I heard that at my house! and I live in TEXAS! :P haha

  • Oh how I wish this was on a CD or something.

  • wow that must have been a godly thing to heard all of that in person even on with this crappy quality vid, i have to go change my undies

  • Listening to this gave me a Corpsgasm and an eargasm.

  • twenty bucks says people in china heard that.

  • @zukavatar toooottallyyy

  • @zukavatar I live in washington state. What date was this because I'm pretty sure I felt it sometimes.

  • it would have been nice to play this, Finals retreat blowed. And no time on the field for anything as soon as scores were done we were booted off. BAH!

  • totally got to get to dci world championship Finals one day..... i gotta hear this.

  • @UesugiVincentibanez good luck at that one, we didn't do it this year.

  • wow so many drum cores, wut a gasm to my ear :O

  • WOW!!!!! can you imagine what it must feel like to be a part of this???? best feeling in the world!!!!

  • i think i jizzed....

  • i just had an ear orgasm.

  • eargasum

  • brings tears to my eyes

  • WOW (what a sound) !!!

  • The music is part Aaron Coplands Lincoln's Portrait, '"Fan Fare for the Common man, and of course, Simple Gifts from Appalacian Spring. DCI. Gotta love it.

  • @oldschooldrumcorps it's not FanFare for the Common Man (which is actually from Copland's Third Symphony). thanks to those who said Champions Fanfare, i think that is what the fanfare is called. WISH there was a regular recording of this!

  • You're right! it is Champions Fanfare, There is an orchestra that plays this on you tube (not very well, in my opinion) but you can hear it with a different arrangement and instrumentation.

  • Whatabandgeek1, why would you ever feel bad for the neighbors?!?! They get to listen to this LIVE for FREE.

  • because maybe they wanted to sleep that night.....?

    :p

  • @whatabandgeek1 who cares about sleep when THIS is going on?!

  • lol yea just maybe lol

  • @whatabandgeek1 I would be absolutely thrilled!!!

  • @whatabandgeek1 this is 100x better than sleep lol, they can learn to love it XD

  • @whatabandgeek1 It only when till like 11. They dealt with it.

  • @whatabandgeek1 Who sleeps during finals week? How can you even try, with all that excitement in the air?

  • @whatabandgeek1 who could WANT to sleep through this???

  • I JUST CRAPPED MYSELF

    Marching Band Forever! <333

  • and this, my friends, is why marching band and DCI is so bad ass.

    <3

  • total goosebumpage

  • what does it even spell?

  • it doesn't need to spell anything

  • oh... my... jesus..... i have never seen so many band people on one field..... this is madness

  • no, this, MARCHING BAND!

  • NO THIS IS DRUM CORPS.

  • NO I AM SPARTACUS!!!!

  • @UesugiVincentibanez

no you are UesugiVincentibanez... spartacus is how you say...dead

  • this is Drum Corps Internationals DUMBASS!!!

  • this is freaking DCI!

  • 144 contras!!! Thats madness!!!

  • When you really think about it, this is absolutely incredible. Sure, it sounds good, which is expected of DCI Corps. But when you think about how many people are actually playing, and how clean it sounds, it's a real testament to the true greatness of DCI.

  • Hahaha! Id give a lot to be neighbors that week!

  • i wish i could have seen this in person

  • it was probably louder than the time when the area bands got together with the A&M commerce band at the cotton bowl.

  • No, in-tune and in control is 50x louder than blasting as loud as you can, and a lot easier to listen to. Nice arrangement; anyone know who arranged it?

  • Jay Kennedy... I'm pretty sure... it has been 5 years since I've played it though. I could be wrong

  • sickest thing ive ever heard.

  • the thing i like most about this video is that the camera its recorded cant handle all the sound. its probably about 10 times louder in person.

  • Yeah!

  • Oh man, I can't believe how loud and awesome this would have been in person.

  • Clean as fuck. Harmonies are pretty much perfect.

  • If this doesn't give you chills, you just aren't human. It's amazing!

  • oh...my gosh....DCIDCIDCI!!!!! YA!!!

  • Amazing. Wish I could have been there! I like the OOOHHH after the high ass trumpet note at 0:29.

  • lol, I love how some one went "Ooo" at like 0:30 after the cut off. Prob admiring that trumpet's note.

  • I'd put money on it bein a trumpet from BD...

  • Idk, the Cavaliers have some pretty boss trumpets from time to time.

  • But the Cavies generally release on time from what i can remember

  • yeah... then tend to do that

  • I see what you did thar

  • i tried out for phantom. i did the carnival of venice for it..didnt make it though because i totally forgot dynamics existed lmao. but i intend to try out again this year maybe i'll make it this time x_x

  • OK, I know it's mostly "Simple Gifts", I should have asked is there a name to the arrangement they are playing?

  • its the shaker melody from "appalaichian spring"

  • Yes, I know, I meant is there a name for this particular arrangement including the fanfare that they are playing for this performance...I'm well aware it's from Copland's piece originally.

  • I think its Champions Fanfare... its been awhile... I could be wrong

  • Does anyone know if this piece has a name? Is there another recording somewhere?

  • I want to hear this in person some day... But I live in CA so all our shows are early in the season. I'll travel out for it when I get the chance I think. =]

  • Things like this make me really sad I didn't discover dci till after I was 21... =(

  • @lnventlve Good enough that you discovered it at a young age. Some ppl dont even know about Drum Core or Marching Band in general.

  • Woodwinds are against the rules

  • olymania - welcome to the club ;)

Once you go corps, you dont go back xP

  • omg, i'm such a nerd. i play clarinet in marching band and just finished up two weeks of band camp. we watched DCI at lunch everyday and now i'm obsessed

  • lol ... i was a clarinet player, saw a DCI show and then went on to march two years of corps! I'm actually in this ... I marched Crown that year :)

  • Lmao. DCI Drum Corps is strictly No Woodwinds.

  • I didnt MARCH clarinet, I marched baritone. Just saying I played clarinet beforehand, saw a DCI show and decided I had to make the switch. I'm not stupid and dont understand that corps dont have woodwinds ...

  • we did the same minus the DCI video watching ha.

  • it was two weeks long... SO hot

  • I definitely think that this fanfare is much better than the one they play now. So much more emotion and power. DCI=amazing.

  • always with the simple gifts.. :)

  • Because its a Drum Corp...

  • because it was originally drum and bugle corps... but they just cut out the bugle part because the use brass instruments now.. and woodwinds just dont fit into it

  • 1.because brass is a more powerful instrument....and you can get louder sounds...plus you can only have a limited amount of people so you wouldn't want to risk not being as powerful as possible...and they are better used as a coloring instrument in marching band....in my opinion

    2. its a tradition from back in the olden days

    3. woodwinds can't withstand rain and such...they are more delicate than brass...the pads and reeds and all

im not a hater....i played clarinet in high school...so ya :)

  • are you gay?? Cause I have no problem with that!! It just sounds stupid when you say that!!

  • nope, just sexist.

  • Thats kind of sad but what ever floats your boat!!

  • are u going to post this on every drum corps vid?

  • @braxtonioan also hint the name drum and BUGLE corp... but they dont really use bugles anymore..

  • WOW!!!!! thats a big band for a fanfare!!!! im impressed though they sound really great

  • r they supposed to do something or just stand there?

  • no they just stand there. they cant get over 1000 members of brass and color guard to move around. that would be insanity. lol

  • insanity?

    THIS IS SPARTAAAAAAA

  • That's amazing! What I would give to play snare in during something like that.

  • this is soooo beautiful!!! =D

  • i wonder this should be in the Guinness book of world records the most people together playing their brass instruments at the same time.

  • I've been part of bigger

  • how?

  • It was this thing before a parade and it was almost every band in San Antonio

  • I bet the people driving by the stadium are like "What the Hell!"

  • I hear Aron Copland, is this Fanfare for the Common Man?

  • Yeah it's for the common man. My high school always had a different arrangment of it in every show.

  • It's Copland, but it's not Fanfare For The Common Man. It's Simple Gifts from Appalachian Spring.

  • Not even close.

  • epic

  • to say the least. we had OK seats in madison, but walked down to the ground for Retreat and Encore.

    MINDBLOWING!

  • have the corps ever played this particular fanfare before?

  • Woah!!!!!! I'm new to the whole DCI scene, so I didn't know they did this!! When is this? Right before Finals?

  • LOL, I can't believe someone gave you a thumbs down for asking that - people are morons sometimes. ;) Don't worry, I gave you one up to even it out. The fanfare takes place after all the corps have marched.

  • Whoo!!!! BLOOOOOOOOO!

  • they explodafacated my head good thing they didnt put all the drumlines

  • so that's what happens when you put 1500 of the world's best brass players on one field...

  • Nothing better than drum corps finals. Thanks for posting, just incredible. I'm so proud to be BRASS right now!!

  • AMAZING.....all the more reason why i want to be in marching band

  • ahem this isnt a marchign band jackass

  • Chopadugga you are a moron its not even in the same UNIVERSE. Please shut up when you dont know what you are talking about.

  • shut up it doesnt matter, stop trying to be a stud. We all know its a corps NOT A MARCHING BAND.

  • when you actually play a brass instrument they make you want to join!!

  • Oh.... My.... GOD.... That was BEAST!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • must have been amazing in person

  • It was even better to be on the field.

  • power.

    pure brassy completely orgasmic power!

  • I was there with the Academy as the Div II champions (to those who don't know, div II champs do this retreat with the top 12 Div I corps. i THINK that Div III winners do as well? i can't remember who the div III champs were :/ )

At the end you can hear a bunch of trumpets holding out a WICKED high note way after the cut off... well you don't hear that entire contra lines were holding over with a gnarly pedal haha. It was tasty. Even being on the very far right end, it was disgustingly loud

  • impulse won that year :)

  • Thats not correct, The Cavaliers won 2006

  • ...fail.

There's more than one division, you know. Maybe you should look around a bit.

  • Its like something out of a film when I was a kid > like when king was arriving in a city or something! I reeeeeeaaaallllyyyyy want to see this in real life!

  • they needa get all the d lines playing together that would be very sexy

  • They should have made it where there were no hole between the players then it would have been louder and it probably would have torn a hole in the roof. Its kinda funny the cavaliers wanna stand out lol. They formed their little C haha.

  • is the DCI Anthem "Simple Gifts"? or is it just a quote from it?

  • It's amazing how all the corps can stay together and make it sound incredible.
