  • I have this deck and it sounds great. Very warm yet somehow accurate sound. Great sound for a 2 head deck.

  • :) did he show u micro switches for normal, crom tapes?

best function on technics decks was calibration option

  • Got one too, Great deck. Found service manual some time ago and i need to fix FL-meters (own fault). Playback level is higher than rec-level so it's hard to record anything. It could be impossible without test-cassette (QZZCFM), and oscilloscope etc. :(

  • That head-control mechanism brings back memories of repairing my TEAC V-900X tapedeck that has a similiar mechanism for the heads resp. the capstans. I had to disassemble the whole thing, too...before that I colored the original status quo of the mechanism and the gear so i could reassemble it later quite easily, but hell...yea, that was a hard piece of work anyway. I wish i hadn´t forgotten to lubricate the whole mechanism inside, so now it makes a lil noise while playing, so speakers up then!

  • Nice deck, hope it's not too horrible a job to change that belt!

  • Compared to that terrible Sony deck that you showed the other day, that Technics looks almost over-engineered (:->

  • I bet you can somehow get the belt round that black spindle from the front instead of disassembling those cogs, I bet if you pry the wheel backwards it will open a little gap at the front where the shaft goes into the metal so you can get a belt around it that way, I don't know for sure though, it's probably much harder than that :P

Nice deck though, I love the way the heads are exposed at the front!

  • Maybe... hopefully!!!

I am a big fan of Technics and they did produce some great kit albeit difficult to service as you found.

    Regards

    Richard

  • They did a brushed aluminum version too.The dark shade does make it look more modern.

  • Wow I wasn't expecting that to be from 1980. I would expect that to be from at least 1984 due to it's color. Cool-looking deck and I hope you can get that belt replaced soon.

  • Technics was using that weird brown colour in the late 70s already, I think they finally stopped using it in the early 90s.

It's pretty much impossible to replace that belt, I'll try to do that if it's impossible to get the deck working in an other way...

  • That's one thing that really bugs me about all this modern technology and engineering, why didn't those idiots make it EASY to change belts, and also use standard sized belts, so universal replacements could be used? I hate proprietory, and prefer things be standardized, sort of like ""AA"" batteries vs all those stupid celleryfone batteries that become obselete in a year or two.

  • Nice cassette deck! It looks cool, and should sound nice as well.
