This was around when El was at his outmost peak musically IMHO. Never been better, befor or later. I looooooooove this S-O-U-N-D. And as a person down a bit here says, musicians being genuine innovative, creative, skilled ...and having fun too.
The difference between today's artists & Elvis in the 50's is that on this type of song (recording) you can hear all the musicians being innovative, creative, & having fun too. They knew they were inventing something. No one today is inventing anything. There are great young artists out there today -- don't get me wrong -- but none had to break down the barriers Elvis faced. They should be grateful to him. He made it possible for us to do what we do today as performers.
Thanks, Jackie. Fine job as usual. I think it's interesting that on the cover of this 2nd of Elvis' (331/3 rpm) albums he's already billed with just his first name.
You will never hear anything like this again. Singer and musicians did a marvelous job. I love the guitar and piano solos. I know its Scotty Moore on guitar but is it Floyd Cramer on piano? Elvis forever.
This is NOT rockabilly!!! Do you people have smog in your head? Whjat is wrong with you? This is based on blues. What is this stupid thing going on calling almost everyhting by the rockers from the golden 1950's for rockabilly. It is a very special kind of style and this IS NOT ROCKABILLY. Is it a fad or fashion calling R&B based rockn'roll from the 50's for rockabilly?...Or what? First learn to walk before run!
@bellgardens53 Well, perhaps they've recently taught themselves a NEW cool word.It can't be that easy to know if they've been listening to rap and disco until now.
@TheSunRecords Maybe, but i doubt. I think some people mix it up and call all 50's music with a beat for rock-a-billy. I believe they have to upgrade their knowledge a bit, to say the least. And 60's music is called, anyway in the early part of that decade, for pop. pop=popular music and that can be anything musically AFAIK...but in common language it is...pop. LOL
@bellgardens53 Yeah, I doubt it too.LOL.But why are they calling everything Rock-A-Billy?It can't be anything else than the lack of knowledge of this particular music.
@TheSunRecords I guess it's lack of knowledge. I mean, I guess some people call Hasil Adkins and Fats Domino for rockabilly. It would not surprise mer. Btw, I just googled Hasil and saw he passed away 2005. RIP. In our favorite site Wikipedia they say his music was country, rockn'roll and blues though at the same time he belonged in the rockabilly genre and sometimes played primitive jazz.. Any comment?
@bellgardens53 You are testing me... To me Hasil Adkins music is raw & primitve Rock n' Roll. But I guess it's not totally wrong to call it Rockabilly.Fats Domino's music is Rhythm n' Blues (in New Orleans style) and Rock n' Roll.
@TheSunRecords Btw, did you know that Elvis "I Beg Of You" is Rock-A-Billy? Hahahahahaha....though I like to call it Rock and Roll but who am I to tell?
Hello Jackie... I have never heard this song before.... I loved it!!!... another beautiful song by the best entertainer ever!!!.... thank you so much for sharing your knowledge, pictures and a wonderful job everytime you make a video about Elvis... I can tell you put a lot of feeling into them.... I trully appreciate that.... take care bye bye Sandri
Yea...real phenomal vocals by El and all, I mean this song is so emotional and razor sharp, well pronounced words and at same time the unique and warm feeling in the words sung. I think that warmthness in the singing, like he sings for just you, no matter you are male or female, makes it such a phenomal personal voice. But this is also great R&Bl, rockn'roll ...blues feeling and phenomal backing. This is when Elvis was baaaaad and not the later jump suits stuff. You gotta love him for that
this song was recorded on September 2nd 1956. "When My Blue Moon Turns To Gold Again", "Long Tall Sally", "Old Shep", "Paralyzed" and "Too Much" were recorded the same day. Both "Heartbreak Hotel" and "I Got A Woman" were recorded on January 10th 1956
I was 10 years old when this song came out, I'm now 63, if my math is right I've been loving this song for 53 years and still love it. What a song! If we miss things after we're gone, this one's at the top of my list! thanks for posting.
True Innovation from everyone in the studio, This track even has a Jazz beat, with Bill Black and was it Shorty Long on piano? trading off each other in the break, Scotty WOW, DJ keeping the whole thing going and ELVIS' hip confident vocals= A CROSS GENRE CLASSIC.
Written by Joe Thomas. Elvis recorded it September 3, 1956 for his second LP, Elvis. It is available on Elvis 56, Elvis, The King of Rock n Roll: The Complete 50s Masters, and Artist of the Century.
I've always been such a huge fan of this very spectacular, fun, overlooked and underrated song. It's a true masterpiece without a shadow of a doubt. It should definitely be way, way, way better known than it actually is for sure. The very first Elvis album that this song ever appeared on was Elvis' 2nd album with RCA, the album was simply titled "Elvis". I'm still waiting for the FTD label to issue a two disc deluxe edition of this classic Elvis album. This video totally rocked in every way.
My Darling Uffe,
Love this song...Love Elvis.....

Como pode um homem ser tão talentoso assim. Com apenas 21 anos e ele já mostrava a que veio.
Simplesmente maravilhoso.

@TheSunRecords Yes, new cool word Rock-A-Billy. LOL But where is Billy? Can not see him.

@bellgardens53 Maybe they're reffering to Johnny and Dorsey Burnette's sons: Rocky and Billy? Who knows...
