this fish shouldnt be classed as a world record its a hatchery fish here where i live they actually get over 20lbs and they are all natural you catch them in the wild in the great lakes not some stocked pond what a joke
@rspsfreak they were using mepps cyclopes on lake Diefenbaker the only reason they caught it was they are freinds with a marine researcher who told them were tho fish
I believe the pens broke 2001-2003. All Mutant hybrid hacthery fish. Cool they caught it... Congrates...BUT, it should not be included into the record books...If so... Lets raise monster triploid browns, salmon, bass etc, then release them into a lake and catch them.... We will all be in the record books!!!
@TallFlyGuy that was honestly the dumbest comment ive ever heard. your just jelous u didnt catch it. your used to catching fish that are 7-10 inches :( sorry i had to get u back to reality
@TallFlyGuy but, if you remember correctly, the previous world record rainbow trout (the alaskan steelhead, not the 43 pounder caught by the same guys in this video) was also a triploid, yet because it was wild, nobody questioned it.
@TallFlyGuy actually, it had significant damage to its pituitary gland, artificially making it unable to spawn, and there for expending all of its energy into growth. whatever you want to call it, it was essentially a triploid. and if you feel like calling bullshit on this, feel free to pick up Mike Rivkin's book Big: The 50 Greatest World Record Catches, and he will tell you the same damn thing.
@nel2nv lol, and there such a thing as santa clause and the Tooth ferry? Do a quick google search to find out what a triploid is and how they cannot reproduce.
@nel2nv Triploid trout are manmaid genetically altered sterile trout. How the hell does that happen in the wild? Please enlighten us and the rest of the biologists in the world.
@TallFlyGuy i agree, i have no problem what so ever with you guys catching them because they are definitely worth bragging about and i would do the same, but they are in my opinion not a real record as far as what a record should be based off. the BURBOT! these guys caught on the other hand is by far a record and an awesome catch with all the bragging rights. come out to my neck of the woods on Kootenay lake and catch a real record , beautiful wild gerrard rainbows push 30lbs and up !!
kill it cause its big, kill it cause it cant breed! - kill it for the presige of saying I KILLED THE BIGGEST ONE! get a fucking life losers - kill you for beeing a retard and breeding more retards!
@sirgap111 fly? Do you really think that your gonna catch 20, 30 or 40lb trout on a fly? Have a look, they are using spinning reels, and probably a huge lure, although, how awesome would it be to catch a 40lber on the fly? :)
here in alberta everything over 35 cm has to be released if i recall it right. This makes me sad.
Everone else is just not truly understanding that we need those old ones to give their genes to the younger and produce more beautiful and freely breed fish instead over stocking lakes and rivers.
Your a straight idiot. God learn your shit. Its a TRIPLOID RAINBOW TROUT> they cannot reproduce, thats why they grow so large, all their bodies energy is spend in growing and not reproducion, so unless they continue planting the young ones, the lake will be empty eventually. SO, that big hawg they kept would have done nothing but died anyways. Your a retard. Nice fish boys.
@TheFisherman656 Thank you very much for your reply. Thanks for pointing out that i did not learn "my shit", it is great to have such great advice from a very passionate and "friendly" fisherman. I really appreciate the pointing out about my mistake. But I think if you left away all your "swearing" it would have been a better way. Do you get called a "retard" when u make a mistake or do u like it that way!?
YOUR AN IDIOT ALSO!!! good job guys your all retarded. For one, the pen that broke and released those fish happened WAY less than 20 years ago, so its not that old, number 2, millions of these planted, unnatural fish got released, theres plenty of them, and its not like it can reproduce anyways, so whats the difference between killing a 3 or 40 pounder? god dam you people are dickheads. If it was a native steelhead or some WILD fish i can see your point, but its a stocker...
Was a very slow year for rainbows in Dief. I went 5 times and got 1 bow

Don't molest fish, Catch then eat them, Then when your full stop catching them.

This is not the World Record.
It is the IGFA 'World Record'.
There have been many native, wild Rainbows taken that were larger than these triploid farm fish.
