  • the confounded vocal looks like it's fed down the toilet bowl,

    hogwash"

  • This is arguably one of the best versions of Bushes and Briars. It’s just such a pity that this particular recording is so poor.

  • her voice is so amazing

  • 0TedMaul0 you're wrong I knew that song cause my gran Ma sung that song when I was little kid and cause i heard from Loreena McKennitt live in L.A in 1998.

  • This song comes from live Rainy Night in L.A 1998. Caroline Lavelle, her cellist sing the song. this is devided into 2 part this is the first and in the second Loreena sing As I roved out one may morning.

  • @Sethi1st I think you'll find this song was written by dj seduction back in '93. Once again oldskool rave paves the way for english folk music.

  • @0TedMaul0 You are correct this is nicked from DJ Seduction - Sub Dub

  • Nonetheless, it is quite enchanting to listen to. I like it

  • this song wasn't written in 1998, it's just a folk song. It appears in the 1970's classig moving Far from the Madding Crowd.

  • sounds more like Susan Mckeown

  • Thanks poster below but the exact lyrics are:

    Through bushes and through briars

    I've lately made my way

All for to hear the small birds sing

And the lambs to skip and play

All for to hear the small birds sing

And the lambs to skip and play

  • This is fantastic, it's nice to know the source of sub dub, and to know it originates from our folk heritage..

  • This isn't by Loreena McKennitt. This is done by her cellist, Caroline Lavelle, who is also a singer and composer.

    Love this version though.

  • @xxSatNamxx

It was collected by Ralph Vaugh Williams, its a traditional folk song from England

see mudact cafe for further details:

  • @meandmymandola Yes, I realize that. I was merely pointing out that this version of the song is arranged and performed by Caroline Lavelle, not by Loreena McKennitt.

  • This is magnificent

  • i love it, i also love the storm remix of dj seductions sub dub :)

  • la que canta no es Loreena, es Caroline Lavelle, su cellista.

  • Loreena's is awesome..but my mom covers it perfectly..will have the vid made soon

  • Yes, this song it's from Caroline Lavelle.

She plays the cello and he accompanies Loreena during her tours.

This live version of this song it's from the concert of Los Angeles at 05/13/1998 (i'm a collecor of Loreena's concerts).

The original song it's a demo and she also has sung during the Loreena McKennitt tour of 1998.

P.S. : sorry for my bad english.

  • Djcondra- There is none. Enjoy the serenity of simple instruments.

Electronics will only ruin such work.

I appreciate rave mixes and such personally as well. But songs like this....Aren't meant for raves.

  • Minxies. There is a rave version. Enjoy the invigoration of electronic instruments.

    Simplicity only ruins such work.

I appreciate folks music and such personally as well. But songs like this....are just made to be remixed.

If you see what I did there, you see how conceited you sound. Dont be a snob.

Do a search for "SUB DUB" by DJ Seduction.

  • Thats not snobbish, its true. Loreena McKennitt has beautiful music and I don't see why it should be turned into a ""Rave"", they generally ruin the effect of the song, making it into a mainstream electronic nightmare. This music is beautiful, it shouldn't be changed.

  • You do realise she didnt write this old folk song? She is doing her version, just like many others are doing. Which version is better is purely subjective.

  • I'm not an idiot. Its how she sings it, it feels old and beautiful...""rave"" is fine in some cases, but not this one. If this was given a different beat it would be completely obnoxious.

  • .... in your opinion. Jesus Christ, it's music, its subjective. Get over it.

  • You're like a musical hitler, the only way you can be worse is if you put J-Pop over it or something.

Rave Music is the worst music ever.

  • No man, not like a "musical hitler". I was just having some fun, you are the one dealing in absolutes, much like a fascist would. FWIW, I like this version, as well as DJ Seductions version.

  • Yes I agree...this is not Loreena

  • This voice is not from Loreena Mckenitt....I know her voice because I follow her work there are many years and I listen her songs every day. Loreena sings in another tone of voice. This voice is from another celtic singer, I am sure! :)

  • precious...

  • FAO folk-heads, i know 'rave/hardcore' whatever won't be your cup of tea but I'm trying to ID this version, who sang this version?? Please help! watch?v=BPChSQGN8OA

  • I know the first rave version is made by DJ Weirdo & Phil Omanski

  • wasn't really a rave version, it just had a sample in it with some of the lyrics. The track was called "Young Birds" and is still one of my favorite hardcore tracks ever :)

  • In Ireland, an act called Bumble did a version called "West In Motion" around 1992. "Sub Dub" by DJ Seduction is the version I liked most.

  • @djcondra

the dj seduction version is what led me here.

at its best music crosses all genres and scenes. bringing many toghether

  • Caroline Lavelle-

An amazing singer and cellist. I love her voice. It is more earthy and seductive than Loreena's. Both are very talented, though.

  • Thank you, i'm so happy , it's a song i've never heard: it's wonderful! thank you again!

  • Attention, ce n'est pas Loreena, il s'agit de Caroline Lavelle ( qui l'accompagne en concert au violoncelle, notamment, mais qui chante aussi )

  • Ah, merci boucoup. Elle chante tres boucoup aussi.

  • not loreena!

I believe it to be someone else.

does not even come close to her beautiful voice.

  • someone give the chick at :35 some cough medicine, QUICK! :-P

  • Finally! Thank you so much for uploading this. :)

  • That is actually Caroline Lavelle singing "Bushes And Briars". Loreena joins in with "Searching for Lambs"

  • So many CD covers...that I've never seen... *headdesks* And so many of them are so PRETTY!

And the song...it's amazing. Why did she never record it?
