  • i think he need to work in his fiato technique

  • a joy to listen to this voice

  • I hear a hint of Caruso's style and a LOT of Pavarotti's! Joseph is, arguably, the best tenor today.

  • @rexxcarz not argually, he IS without a shadow of a doubt!

  • Never tired of hearing the great, glorious and golden voice of the young Maltese tenor JOSEPH CALLEJA. He's superb and luckily has still a long way to go. Good luck to all opera lovers regaled by JOSEPH'S marvellous singing!

  • solo un po di fraseggio pulito..........ci manca....ma è Bravo.

  • he makes me weak in the knees :)

  • Actually me too...my partner is actually jealous of him although he loves him too. I just saw him in Hoffmann and he is also very hot on stage if you like bears.. :) :) :)

  • Calleja great always great great GREAT!

  • I met him during a production of Rigoletto in Rotterdam some years ago....... Cool dude as well....... Mi piace piu che Florez.... lui ha una voce piu voluminosa........ piu di forza maschile..........

  • He looks so handsome here and what a voice

  • Not as good as a young Leech!

  • Bravo!

  • Splendid!

  • Assieme a Florez, uno dei miei tenori contemporanei preferiti. Splendido !

  • He has a fantastic expressive and sensitive voice.

  • A lovely expressive voice! TY!

  • love his timbre but i think the vibrato is too fast

  • You may feel the vibrato to be fast for your personal taste, Elried. But not only is it of the same pulse speed of Bjorling, Lauri-Volpi, & Pavarotti in their vocal prime, but is actually a true vibrato that only appears when the technique is very close to flawless. It is a completely natural event far beyond the singers conscious control. A true vibrato has a tonal pulse between 6.2 & 7.2 pulses per second. Any slower is called a wobble, any faster is called a tremolo.

  • yes I know that. but usually only the lighter voices have a vibrato that fast. for example florez. but this is a pretty heavy voice. thats why i think its too fast.

But with too fast i dont want to critizize his technique (how could one?) but most of the tenors have slower vibratos. for example wunderlich. and who would say that he had a wobble?

  • Elried, in relation to the speed of tonal pulse for the heavier voices, it should be no different. A genuine dramatic voice simply has tonal qualities of greater power & weight, due to perhaps longer cords than the norm for the fach, but certainly due to greater chest register engagement in the technique. But young Corelli, Caruso, Melchior, Amato, Ruffo, Tamagno, Giacomini, etc, all had true vibrato's of the same periodicity as the lighter voices. Wobble occurs when light voices are pushed.

  • I'd say that true colour are a combination of vocal cord length and thickness, the size of the resonating chambers of the chest and pharynx, and of course the degree of subglottic air pressure. I agree that there should be little difference in vibrato rates between voice types. I agree that wobbles occur if there is too much pushing and not enough true connection of breath from the deep andominal / pelvic muscles ( such an etherial concept i know!!)

  • @ozhilarion Thanks, I agree with most of the above. I would also add personality type & emotional empathy with particulayr vowel colours. Very few voices have timbres identical to the true natural timbre of the laryngeal physiology. Most apply an artificial colour of some form either on individual vowels & notes, or even throughout the range. It is this imposition that hinders vocal progress & range!

  • Yes Yes Yes

  • Thanks! Succinct & to the point! Lol

  • The vocal quality is on a par with Bjorling & Pavarotti

  • Awesome.

  • Why is youtube censoring user comments?

  • A beautiful voice. Thank you for posting this.

Channel owners rather than YouTube have the right to censor comments. I have blocked some comments and users on my own channel if they are spiteful and derogatory.

  • Superb!

  • Bravo! Bravissimo! Thank you iforgeti for posting this.
