When I was a kid, in the WW3 postwar period, my parents used to produce hemp on their small land fields, north of Portugal; this hemp was produced to be woven in one of those small plants, which have appeared in the postwar aftermath, near my parents home town. I still remember all those nice crafts fiber weaving apparatuses!...
In my Country, all those wonders are gone, forever. Here, culture, is something..., more like money...; different from the knowledge we have received from our ancestors.
if this video support the protection of korean culture, it doesnt matter which side produced it. So far I can follow the text its a wonderful song without any propaganda!
very modernaized and standardized singing compared to south counterpart which is still very traditional. but i think that this is not bad for popularization of Korean Minyo though.
When icylakepaxphile says that this piece is very modernized compared to its south Korean counterpart, he is referring only to this specific genre of korean folk music. He's not making a comparison with American 'pop' music (if you think pop is the epitome of what is 'modern' you are sadly mistaken.) In other words, he comparing two variants of folk, that of south Korea and of north Korea.
@2030748 in korean folk singing, half of the stuff said is onomatopoeia, incomprehensible expressions of emotion or nonsense, even to the ears of us koreans. if this song were translated into english, it would be more confusing to an english speaker than a shakespeare work written in latin ...
@ChilSeongGeom I've a feeling that if this were performed by a RoK singer instead of a DPRK singer, you'd say different and attempt to translate it despite the fact it's "nonsense." I'm not denying what you've said (I'm a beginning Korean speaker/reader.) But Shakespearean works are difficult innately (forget interpreting Hamlet unless you've Sparknotes)... I don't think he really cared. Maybe he wanted more to be confused with?
@Invilidity Its very unlikely this is performed by a RoK singer. This music videos is a series of videos created by DPRK government. Notice the standardized introduction title at the beginning?
@ArticMuse I never said that this is not a DPRK piece (I can tell from the style of Karaoke scrolling and the poor CGI that it is indeed a DPRK piece). I'm actually saying that ChilSeongGeom's feelings about this song would've been different if it was performed by people from RoK.
When you say it smells Chinese, it is well known that in North Korea a lot fo the traditional arts, like dance and songs, get reinterpreted or "modernized" so to say in ways similar to Comunist China or even Soviet Russia. I would not be surprised if they'd sing it like that in Yeon Byeon.
All I wanted to say about this video is that such ethereal dancing will never again be seen by the world.

歌詞を日本語字幕で表示していただけないか。ここに漂っている情緒と朝鮮独特の衣装、踊りは素晴らしい、美しい、何だか遠い記憶に引きずり込まれるようだ、在り得ない世界を幻視しているようだ。

@icylakepaxphile Somehow this version is more relaxing, and the melody is pleasant for the ears than the really traditional version. in my opinion.

So, your comment is out of place.

Her name is Choi sam sook (최삼숙). The original song is JIN-DO ARIRANG, southern west part of Korea. But We do not sing like that. IT SMELLS CHINESE...
