@fredarke Well, that would be very rare if it happend. First of all, the camera is mounted to his helmet, but assume he forgot to close his helmet strap, It could be possible that his helmet + camera floats away. Which brings us to the next problem. the mass of the skydiver is way larger then the mass of the camera, thus he would fall past his camera. Only solution would be him to open his canopy, if it is a small velo 89, there is a chance he could grab the helmet + camera in midair.

To be fair, mass has nothing to do with how fast you fall. Gravity is the same for a feather and a bowling ball. Air resistance is the only difference. But yes, most likely it would float away if it were to do anything at all.

@nglange Lets look at the terminal velocity equation Vt = Sqrt( 2mg/pACd). You are confusing it with acceleration. The differences in Coefficient of drag,Area and mass between the camera and skydiver will cause the camera and skydiver to seperate. All assuming the skydiver was at terminal when the camera separated.

That's a little more complicated than I was really getting in to lol but you are right looking at gravity/acceleration is irrelevant at Vt. I was mostly pointing out that a blanket statement about "mass means you fall faster" is incorrect. Also, estimating the drag coefficients for a camera and a person would be difficult and pointless. I'm not sure I believe that you know for sure they would separate. Pretty sure the cameraman wouldn't have to "dive after it" though. Maneuver, probably yeah.

Unfortunately we cannot compete at this world cup or at the next world meet. The reason for this is simply that our personal scheduas do not allow us to train as much as we would like. If we cant push the sport further, we might aswell let other teams go for it. So we have two new norwegian freefly teams competing internationally at the moment.

My bet is that the brits will do good this year

That was a breathtaking performance! I watched this with some of my whuffo friends, and it's amazing how little knowledge the public has about this sport. I had to explain that it takes skill to maneuver like this in free fall! Hahaha. Well I can certainly tell you boys have been working hard, congratulations on 2nd place, that's a big victory. :)

It's so cool how at like 1:22 they were above the clouds, surrounds by the blue sky. Then at 1:43 you could see the ground coming at them.

Also, its amazing how there's no up and down in free fall it's all weightless.
