  • I like your point about the loading gate. Although I don't find them a huge deal, I had one incident in the field when I was wearing gloves and the gate on the Browning I was using repeatedly snagged on the glove finger tips. Quite annoying when you are trying to throw in a few more shells on the move while hunting upland birds. Now that I bought a Mossberg, no more problems.

  • i hate the pistol grips myself

    i think they are tacky

    anyone feel the same

  • @TheBlitz1 I think the word I would more use is "unwieldy". They feel about as accurate as throwing a rock at someone.

  • So... my purchase of a Mossberg 500 was a good decision, seeing as it was $249?

  • @NoahLDiamond You cant go wrong with a Mossberg 500. If you got more features and accessories then I did then $249 might be a fair price? Mine was used and bone stock with nothing for $150.

  • well done

  • This one is similar to the one I have. This was a LOT of info for *me* and I thank you very much for the education! :)

I look forward to watching more of your vids:)

    BOP

  • @BirdOfParadise777 Glad to be of assistance. Thanks for watching. I have tons of new videos for you to watch since I just finished with Shot Show 2012.

  • Parkerization is much more rust resistent than bluing. Blued guns need to be kept with a light film of oil on them or they will rust over time. Parkerized is much more rust resistent, why do you think the military prefers parkerization?

  • @maxawesuse You cant parkerize aluminum.

  • @mixflip No shit, you cant blue Aluminum either

  • @maxawesuse No one said they blue aluminum did they? Aluminum is anodized.

  • You cant parkerize Aluminum you dumbass

  • Also.. the slide release on the 870 feels like a jagged soda can tab. & the safety, is like a crossbolt P.O.S. safety on my crossman pellet rifle.

  • The 20" barrel (with rifle sights), 7 rd mag tube, and stronger spring is available at Brownells for $150. I was going to buy a new Persuader but I can modify my existing plan-jane, field grade 500 for much less. Add a pistol grip buttstock and forend ($90) and you have a decent "tactical"/HD shotgun for less than $250. Thanks for the very informative video! Cheers!

  • @BassmanSW Thanks for watching.

  • I agree this is what protects my house too

  • @Blk05titan26 Good choice!

  • Just remember that if you don't follow, gods laws, and commandments he will not grant you protection. And not so much the guns you idolize.

  • @01samuelalva God gave us the intelligence to build life saving tools such as firearms. I dont idolize them. I use them to protect my family and myself when the Devil send evil my way. God helps those who help themselves. Heaven sounds amazing but I have alot of work to do here on Earth and I have 2 little boys that could benefit from having their father around them for the next 50 years. Im in no hurry to leave them. I dont push my religious belief on you so dont push them on me.

  • @01samuelalva You can believe in God till youre blue in the face but that doesnt mean you shouldnt protect yourself. Christians get killed everyday. Heaven sounds good n all but imma fight to stay out as long as i can.

  • @01samuelalva Evil is everywhere in all degrees & good men need to be ready to stand against it with words or actions.

  • the only thing I would add is that the pump release switch on the 500 is easier to reach than on the 870, at least in my hands.

  • @FoodFolksandGuns but the safety is not if you have a pistol grip.

  • Great video bro. I have the 500 Persuader 8+1 and I love it. Plus it was only $290 plus tax and DROS

  • @FoodFolksandGuns Thanks for watching.

  • Love the gun..........

  • @filanderrod Thanks for watching

  • Great review and great deal on a great shotgun. I have the 590A1 with 8+1 capacity. And dude, are you Hawaiian? Cuz you like that Spam.

  • @wongtim LOL, SPAM has a long shelf life so its a part of my emergency preparedness supply. I also lived in Hawaii for 10 years and my wife was born & raised on Oahu's North Shore so Spam is welcomed in our home. But we are not Hawaiian. We are Filipino, Irish & Native American mixed.

  • I love this shotgun. I've added a sling and extra barrels. Very versatile!

  • @GunsKnivesSurvival I watched your video with the 3 different barrels. Loved it! I am on the hunt for a rifled cantilevered barrel now because of your video. Gotta love versatility!!!

  • @mixflip It's a lot of fun. I haven't had a chance to use the scoped barrel yet, but I might end up using it this deer season. Take care.

  • Mossberg makes the 930spx.

  • Comment removed

  • @Steve2323ZX I think you meant Mossberg 930SPX?

  • like usual.. great review!!

  • @delta66able Thanks for watching.

  • OUTSTANDING review. I have the 500 Persuader. I run a 6 shot side saddle and a 2 point sling. I dont keep it +1 NOT because to "scare them away with the sound," but because for safety. I have a trigger lock on it (which is easily removed if you know how) and I dont want one in the pipe with that on. My buddy just bought one yesterday, he opted for the 5 shot model, i told him "if you can't solve your problem with 2 shots of 00 buck, then you a SWAT team. Looking for ward for the field strip vid!

  • @DavfromIrvine Good point on the +1. I agree you dont want to be fiddling with a trigger lock with a round in the chamber. I mentioned the "racking a round" part because there are guys who specifically want to make a loud "shuck shuck" sound as part of their tactics for deterring a bad guy? It may work and it may work against them is all I was pointing out and my opinion (for what little its worth lol) is that I dont agree with it. But in your case you dont have a choice. I keep mine in a safe.

  • Good info from someone who really knows his shotguns. I've always been a Remington type of guy but this review has me on the fence now. Thanks... Lol. Can't wait until I can afford a 590A1 with that amazing bayonet. Peace.

  • @MRRCB333 Remingtons rock. I just re-qualified on a Remington 870 Police Magnum today. I trust my life to a Remington every day at work. I'll have a video review on that shotgun up tomorrow. I grew up on my dad's 500 as a kid so I am comfortable with both.

  • Keep the videos coming, doing a good job.

  • @Twrecks92 Thanks for watching.

  • 500's have raised the bar in shotguns. the modability of it is enormous as well

  • Great video, im a big fan of the channel. I personally own an 870, but I like the 500 as well.

  • @deathdrummer704 870's are legendary themselves. Its a preference thing. Both are great shotguns. I just did a review of an 870 right after this video lol.

  • 5+1 is fine, but a lot of home invaders work in teams, multiple targets, EVERY course of fire is different.

  • @badlieutenant13 I agree. Thats why shotguns should have extra ammo since they are limited in their capacity. I will be making a video that talks about the pro's & con's of home defense with handguns, shotguns & rifles. I just didnt want to take too much time talking about those subjects in a basic shotgun review. I actually prefer my high capacity handgun for HD but I do love the 1 shot stopping power of a single blast of a shotgun also. Having options is always nice.

  • "Sounds should not be used to defend your family, bullets... should be used to defend your family" - I am going to sample this, it is equal to "Luck favors the prepared" in it´s traditional wisdom.

    Keep it up Mix!

  • @Daemonkrat Thanks for watching. I should have mentioned in the video that racking the gun could also give away your position and if the bad guy is a decent (or lucky) point shooter...making noise could be very bad?

  • @mixflip

Thank you for posting the videos man, informative for us who cannot go to gun shows or even own/use guns "the american way" - that is, as tools and such...

And yeah, the sound gives away your presence and/or even position. As you said, to enter a home with criminal intent is something "special". If I was to use sound, I would go with a the bark of a disciplined dog - the guy could not hide from the dog and I would point flashlight and gun when the dog has spotted/attacked the perp. :)

  • @Daemonkrat You hit on one of the best points ever. A dog actually makes for one of the best home defense items anyone could ever have. No bad guy wants to do the business of breaking & entering or home invasion with a barking dog that is waking up the whole neighborhood! Plus if its big it could obviously bite the shit out of them which no sane person wants to experience. My father has an indoor pitbull and oddly enough, he has never been burglarized lol.

  • @mixflip - Well the reason for saying that the sound of racking a shotgun is enough is based on pop-culture, or "instincts" being established via invention of said weapon, what some 200 yrs at the most? Man and dog has been together since the.... ohh God knows when :) A dog does not tremble, hesitate or feel sorry (properly trained...) - unlike most humans (inexperience and so on).

So as far as sounds go - a mid size to large dog barking will make most "people" think twice!

  • Nice

  • This is the most versatile weapon anyone can own. If you can only afford one gun this should be it. It can fight, and it can hunt. It's a shot gun and it's a 73 cal. smooth bore. Durable and reliable as a hammer, don't need to keep it clean, just keep it loaded. I love mine , it's my favorite weapon.

  • Sir, you have sold me on a home defense shotgun!

  • @Thegarmendia Thanks for watching. Glad you liked it.

  • Great shotgun!!! Have the same one myself for yrs!! But does ur pump have some or alot of play in it? Because mine jiggels a little.

  • @723BigJB I have owned lots of shotguns. They all seem to jiggle to some degree. The Mossberg does more than others but it works.

  • @mixflip Ok thanks man keep up the great vids!!

  • @723BigJB You want some "jiggle and play" in the pump action forend, if it were too tight, you wouldn't be able to work the action.

  • we got the same one but its like 20 years old lol

  • One of my all time favorites , Good stuff .

  • Great review!!!!

  • Good review! Had a lot of good info. Thanks!

  • nice shades inside

  • @yoohoofan13 They're prescription.

  • @mixflip ahhh, i see....

  • Mossberg 500 = my favorite Shot Gun
