  • Thanks a lot!

  • @canobd2. After special tool removal and replacement. How do u torque to 30nm and what tool is used? U don't tap a crescent wrench back to the tightened. Can a torque wrench fit

  • They make fans clutch wrenches that you can use to torque it down with (you should be able to find them at your local parts store).

  • They make fans clutch wrenches that you can use to torque it down with (you should be able to find them at your local parts store).

  • Would a 15 inch adjustable wrench work also?

  • Sure

  • What size was that adjustable wrench?

  • It's a 12" adjustable wrench.

  • if the nut only REALLY came off that easy

  • I have a 95 Grand Marquis and I believe the fan clutch needs to be replaced. I was told that I would need a fan clutch wrench to remove the old one. I noticed you didn't use one, so is it really necessary?

  • I would recommend borrowing the special tool from your local parts store (most parts stores have a loan a tool program), this will make it make the job a lot easier.

  • But why the draining of the coolant?

  • The only reason we drained the coolant is because we were going to replace the coolant at the same time as the fan clutch. You don't have to drain the coolant to perform this repair.

  • Good video... Nice clean job..

  • How you been man, didn't see any new vids in awhile everything okay.

  • Would this video be similiar to replace a fan clutch on a dodge ram sxt?

  • Yes

  • Thanks for the instructional video. Very helpful. For all the morons with the stupid comments, if you canlt say anything intelligent, shut up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @nooty69 canit?

  • IcNt get it off everything spins?

  • What type of vehicle?

  • Im taking the fan clutch off to replace my water pump, im going to try this soon right now its completely out of the truck since i took off the water pump with it connected. Hopefully it runs again when im done. 1989 f250 5.8l 351w

  • Thank you so much, you make it look so easy

  • Never mind I read the rest of the comments

  • Why do you have to drain your coolant. ? Is that necessary on 02 Sonoma 2.2 liter??

  • Please, you'd have the explanation for a BMW 540i 1997. I need to change the plastic propeller only. From already thank you very much!

  • To replace the Fan Clutch in your 540i, it calls for two special tools one to hold the pulley and the other to loosen the fan clutch. Using one special tool brace it against the pulley and loosen nut from water pump using the other special tool (CAUTION: Left-hand threads). When reinstalling the Fan Clutch make sure you torque it to specifications (30Nm with the special tool). Good Luck!!

  • @canobd2 Thank you very much !!!!!!!!! excellent your channel !!!!! A hug from a distance!

  • someone just quoted me $300--$400 for parts and labor to do this to my 99 Isuzu rodeo. Is that high?

  • That sounds a little high to replace the fan clutch on your Isuzu.

  • Why drain the coolant? No hoses were removed. Unless you just want to refresh the coolant, this is an unnecessary step and a waste of time.

  • The only reason we drained the coolant is because we were going to replace the coolant at the same time as the fan clutch. You don't have to drain the coolant to perform this repair.

  • now if i could just find a good clutch that works properly for a 4.3 blazer

  • I have a 2003 Yukon XL. Anything different I need to do? Can I follow the directions from your video?

  • The procedure should be the same in your Yukon.

  • My 92 Saturn SL1 overheats when my car is not in motion. The other day i was at a drive through and they took forever. The car over heated since i was not moving. I was also in heavy slow moving traffic the other day and it started overheating. Somebody told me it could be the fan or fan clutch. Is this true?

  • Your Saturn has an electric fan, so you may want to start off by checking fuses, power, ground, etc. within the circuit. Good Luck!!

  • @canobd2 Cool. Thanks!!!

  • how did it come loose like that?? a trail blazer gave me hell today trying to take it out

  • Sometimes they come out easy and sometimes they can be a pain.

  • Just did the water pump on my '97 GMC Sierra. That fan clutch bolt is not easy to work loose. Some penetrator on the threads did the trick though. It's not as easy to remove that fan clutch as shown in the video. Either a fan clutch bolt wrench or in my case, I used a 15" crescent wrench and some tapping with a large rubber mallet on the wrench to work it loose. Keeping the water pump pulley from spinning under the serpentine is the biggest challenge when working that bolt loose.

  • that would not come off that easy u would need a Spanner Wrench for the water pump

  • Add, grit, grime, rust, corrosion - retake anyone?

  • you would not need to drain the coolant just to take the fan out.

  • @5192160 no it thought that too why drain the coolant for the fan replacement ,

  • he didn't even have to use that fan clutch wrench

  • Just tried this on my trailblazer and i call bullshit...the water pump moves because of the belts. You must have loosened the nut before hand. Theres no way the belts don't move unless theres something wrong with that car.

  • @eric37428 I strongly agree with you.

  • I have a 2002 trailblazer. Do I need to try to unscrew the large retaining nut for the fan or can i just remove the 4 nuts that attach it to the water pump?

  • To remove the water pump from your 2002 trailblazer you will need to remove the 4 bolts that hold the water pump pulley on, you do not need to remove the large nut.

  • Thank you so much! I'm about to get started on a 1997 GMC Sierra 1500 with my dad.

  • @pyrolowryder Finished the job in about an hour. Wasn't too hard, but you we had to rent a fan clutch removal tool from Autozone. We attached it to the water pump and then made it wedge itself against a pulley, then we loosened up the fan using your method on the video. We used a plastic masonry hammer to lightly tap the wrench. Now the random squeaking is gone!

  • Why did you drain the coolant sir??

  • The only reason we drained the coolant is because we were going to replace the coolant at the same time as the fan clutch. You don't have to drain the coolant to perform this repair.

  • you are a LIAR that clutch fan bolt is not that easy bro.....i have a 4.3 v6 blazer i for 24hrs i ve been fight it !!!!!!!!!!!! wrench hammer bout to try BURNING it to the ground, good job GM another point less bolt part or something for you to spend money on to drive up costs on the ppl.!

  • @streetdfs If you don't know what you're doing, take it to someone that knows..Easy!!

  • @AutoTechHector ok buddy !?! that son-of-a-b!tch was on there and i know all of them aren't that easy kool guy ........slap you! take my olds bravada it has 200k on the body and unknown mileage on the motor and trans...blow me buddy! you know that there is NO REASON for that clutch fan to be that way!

  • @streetdfs Suck a fat one buddy!!!... you're an idiot....fuck you dumb ass!!..Ok bitch ass Buddy!! LMAO!

  • @streetdfs bud you would talk that shit here in fl bitch i'd break your hip old man and your pussy ass sons to, grow the fuck up, you fucking typing tuff guy !

  • 2:33 install it on your water pump?

  • Yes, for this vehicle the fan clutch is mounted to the front on the water pump.

  • @canobd2 oh!! haven't worked on any vehicle with that setup yet. Thanks for being mature and not replying with f u's... etc. etc

  • Thanks I've been looking for the single wire connector for the auxiliary fan temp switch and nobody seems to have it

  • I have a 95 gmc suburban 2500 7.4 and there are two sensors on each side of the block what are they are they coolant sensors or fan temperature switches I'm baffled help me out thanks

  • @aykaye47

Engine Temperature Switch (left side of the engine block) in between cylinder 1&3.

Auxiliary Cooling Fan Temp Switch (right side of engine block) Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor (front of the engine next to thermostat)

  • why did he drain the fluid?

  • Comment removed

  • @darthfocus We were wondering the same thing! He never says why to do that! Guess we'll see how it goes when we do it without draining!

  • @jenjen816 YOU DON"T need to drain any fluid! We got ours off, with a lot more banging with the huge hammer, but it finally let go. Got the new one on in under 5 minutes. Also, the fan shroud is held on with 7 bolts not two, and yes we're working on a 1996 Suburban 1500, same as the one in the video. :)
