green screen is just a green cloth you put behind your guy. probably 5 dollars worth...

the plugin for after effects is free so you can switch it to a background. you need to work on it or it will look obviously pasted and fake though

@vincentstockdaletv Sort of. It's the scratches and flicker laid on pretty thick and you've still got to colour grade. If you're editing in WMM then you're going to struggle to make anything look pro. Save $100 and get Sony Vegas.

Wow, I'm surprised you use premiere. I know I have only used the consumer version, but it was the worst video editing software that you have to pay for. A note to filmmakers- you want really cheap editing software, use Vegas, not premiere.

@firefighter8316 Stark made the intro, so you can ask him, but I believe that stark used the following: 3DSMAX w/FumeFX plugin and After Effects. You could do most of the 3D in Cinema 4D, which is much cheaper then Max and is on both PC and Mac, but the smoke would be a difficult asset to create in C4D. Maya is also an option but I think thats a little over kill for motion graphics.

Hey Ryan, at the end when you say, "...add your widescreen bars..." why wouldn't you just change the comp size in the settings? Is that what you meant by saying to add widescreen bars or do you actually add black solids at the top and bottom. If that is what you do, could you explain why you would do that instead of changing the comp settings? Thanks

@gymhockey2587 He actually adds the bars. At least for Film Riot episodes since the episodes are actually 1.78:1, he can't have the same video as two different ratios so he just adds the bars. I am pretty sure that the film "Losses" was actually the comp size and didn't add any black bars.

Thanx for the AE 70's effect tutorial, I had to use the effect for a school project and this would have been so much easier. Instead of going w/ my gut and figuring out how to do it w/ AE I decided to just apply the old film effect that FCP7 comes w/ thinkin it would save me time, boy was I wrong. The effect had so many presets that it took the Mac hrs. to render... now I know better. P.S. Nice 'Dial M for Murder' reference.
