I think what would help your case here would be to find a way to record the NYPD doing these things, then you can start a real movement. I have no doubt that some officials would try to pull stuff like this to silence "outsiders" or "educated Americans", and yes the government cares because there are certain things out there that's happening that they don't want the public to know.
