some people say the Scottish accent makes understanding difficult. Huletts Internationale gives us the beautiful and dignified side.

There is one phrase I do not like,  not a criticism of Hulettt, for it is not his own authored song. It is.. "we'll shoot the generals on our own side". In the Russian Revolutionary war,.the Generals di so much to win against great odds. They should never have been shot, not 20 or 23 years later. It's a horror that they were!

It's not referring to the purge, but rather the act of conscripts rebelling against the State. The translation of the original goes:

The internationale was made for the barricades of the Commune de Paris. That was the firsth and most revolutionary socialist experiment ever, and much positive things came from it.

It was crushed because it was succeding (they wouldn't crush a thing that will fall by itself).

There the evils were NOT repeated. The internationale isn't born form frustration, but form a succes, a short-lasting yet great succes.

And of course there is going to be an inclination to 'crush' a competitor, especially when the contest is fundamentally about who wields power?

Well, that depends on the goal of the fight... in the socialisty case YES.

The ideas behind the internationale were born far before any socialist failure, socialism isn't a easy goal yet it is a good one.

I'd ask you to take a look at what happened in the Commune. That was a very beautifull thing...
