@FullCupcakes well good for you!! Just as long as your not bullying people I have no problem with you. You also hold a valid point, and I respect it, though I may not fully agree with it. And if you like who you are then there's no reason to change :)
I tried to be popular when all my friends where becoming popular but it dident work. I realy hate being meen to people so I couldent do it. And the popular people aren't that much fun to hang out with... unpopular people who don't realy care about what other people think of them are realy fun to hang out with though :) and the popular people at my school don't like anime or vocaloid so I dident realy fit in anyways!!! Yay for unpopular people!!!!!!!
I understand what shes saying at the end, Once you have your life built up, you can't just stop and turn around, Everything that had been done is done, And even if stop and turn back, the past has already moved too.
You all talk about people following the crowd like you're 100% individual. Maybe a few of you are, and good for you, but I can almost garuntee that 90% of you are the people that try to fit it. You don't buy this brand because other people don't, you aren't friends with someone because someone hates them.
I'm a shallow and mean person, and I follow the command of people in a higher position than me. But I like being popular, being on the cheer and dance team. I like who I am and what I do. (:
@FullCupcakes Even so, you're also generalizing people. You cannot for a fact guarantee that mostly everyone on here acts as you think they probably do and acting condescending is just plain silly. 'I like who I am'? How can you be anyone if you are a sheep? 'Who' are you? You come to see even in fitting in, you hold some individuality. While you might not want a brand because people don't buy it, another 'popular' person would.
Marionette Syndrome - A mental disease developed when people go into depression because they want to be popular at school, but think they are too ugly, annoying, etc. to be a part of the "cool group". They also feel as if their lives are controlled by someone else.
@Tabuu986 I think it's more of what happens when people who are so desperate and needy to be popular they just follow the crowd mindlessly. They might not like who they've become later on, but they are generally accepted into the masses. Eventually they loose themselves and are only the puppets of the great popular social circle.
@FullCupcakes I never said I knew everything and I certainly didn't mean to imply so. Where in my comment do I state that everyone follows the crowd for the same reason? I was just stating my opinion on what I believed the song was about. Because clearly this song doesn't target everyone who follows the masses. Your tone is unnecessary. But I'm sorry if I offended you.
I NEEDS SOMEONE TO HELP MEH FIND A SONG I FORGOT.ITS BY RIN..a PV..basically she's hated by everyone, but doesnt have the heart to commit suicide. The only suicide scene thing I remember is where she goes to the road, sees a dead cat...Like she said something...then says she'll stop halfway..
I love the look on my bullies face when Iet them see this and then show them how I aced my test while they were at the bottom of the class. I love songs like this, it is so true and unlike the songs were it about stupid love and sick things
I wanted to say: you don't have to force yourself to be like the rest of society. To be yourself is courage. If you don't, you'll find yourself to have really turned into the person you're pretending to be.
And let's be honest, there are also times when the fault lies in you. Consider your attitude and mind your mannerisms. Know your faults and make up for them. I was even more selfish and condescending when I was younger. Annoying. Even if you hate yourself, don't give up.
Oh, I wanted to add. In Japan, these hierarchies aren't make-believe. The cliques and the mental abuse are real.
My problem in high school was not that didn't fit in and people hated me (which was more true in elementary), but because I purposely labelled them (preps, snobs, etc) and shut them out. I did end up opening up more, and classes became more enjoyable even though my otaku-buddies weren't in the same classes. People weren't that bad--still idiots like I thought, but hey. Gotta try.
I live in a Vancouver (Canada) in a very good neighbourhood. My high school didn't have that kind of hierarchy (at least, in my grade and the one before). Making friends was more about charm (kindness, humour), and serious bullying was pretty much non-existent. Heck, most of the gay kids were open. The worst was only that no matter how book-smart people were, a lot of them were idiots. What killed me was elementary. Kids are cruel, stupid, and simply unjust. I was very lonely through most of it.
I HATE FITING IN its so pontless if you try to fit in and please everyone its not gunna work someones gunna be a hater no matter what you do I WOULD RATHER BE HATED BY ALL THE HATERS THAT HATE MEH THAN NOT BE ABLE TO BE MA SELF :p
well, i agree with scop at times, but this song, since i'm often an optimist when i "see" negative things, i find this really over-exaggerated. that you're own your own "saying poisons," it's not like you -have- to lie and look out only for yourself to survive, be popular, or be accepted. i find this all way too negative. it's a song, but just saying. this would only apply to the worst cases and atmospheres in real life.
@SugaryWinter Actually, stuff like this happens every day. Because you're an optimist you probably didn't notice. It might just be the figurative language that makes it so over exaggerated. Telling poisons just means saying mean things. which CERTAINLY happens. And in a lot of cases once your 'in' the popular group, it's hard to get out without becoming the next target for bullying.
@shainonn Actually, I'm a -pessimist.- I just find that you guys are somewhat over-exaggerating. It's true, the terrible things that happen, but this is a pretty warped way of looking at it. The pv's a pv, but you guys opinions just kinda get to me. lol. haha I am most definitely not popular. You may think unpopular people have it hard, but popular people do too, they're known well enough that they have to deal with really bad rumors.
@SugaryWinter I know this happens to a lot of people because they commit suicide and all, but everyone was so nice when I went to high school. That's a private school for you.
Just recently I moved acrost the country, and I don't feel like that anymore(: no matter how much of a missfit I am now, I still feel happier then I ever did being someone elses merionet.
She reminds me of myself. Sometimes I do feel like someones pupet, and no matter how hard I struggle and how much I know its wrong I can't seem to break the ties. And then I loose hope and all I have left are the srings that hold me up.
I don't really think I changed much at all through highschool. I'll be going into my last year in 6 weeks time. What I do suggest though, is don't change yourself at all. At first it's rough, because kids think they're cool now that they're in high school. Once you're past the first couple years, people accept you for who you are. At first, I was bullied and ignored. Now I talk to everyone in the school. Ignore what people say, you're unique. Not a freak. c:

Every time I see this video and read these lyrics, I start wishing and hoping that I won't change for the sake of others when I go into High School next year.
And my area still has the 11+ so I go to a school for clever people. We still get this. A lot. All of us are in the top 25% in the country for our ages but you never would guess it if you spent a day in my classroom.
I'm English and we only have two schools as opposed to three. I'm starting Year 9 in three days and most people are like this at my girls's school. Hooray for staying in the same school from year 7 to 13. :) I know everyone in my year and about 1/4 of the years above and below me. Small grammar school (continued)
@RusCan10 Same here! I go to a school for the gifted, but for years I was bullied all the time! I kinda found my group, though. We're all huge anime/manga otakus. It's better when you have a group of people to just hang around and be yourself with without being criticized for it. So I can spaz about Hetalia and Naruto in complete comfort. XD
@ChibiIvanBraginski EXACTLY. Finding your own group is your lifeline. You can vent, and people are less likely to choose you for prey. I'm an otaku--have been since I was like, 11. From Sailor Moon to Inuyasha to Naruto (SasuNaru) to everything else, and now I'm a /complete fujoshi (BL/yaoi fangirl)/. It's pretty much what we're always talking about. From Eames/Arthur in Inception to discussing slashy moments in DRRR!! where we're like, "how can a writer be this oblivious?" It completes us.
Finally, (in the fifth grade) i told them off and started hitting the group's leader (they would also taunt me during recess) until i was pulled away by an older kid. We barely ever talk and I have found new VERY good friends. The group does occaisionally talk to me and its usually "Hey! You wanna have lunch with us today??" and i usually smile shake my head and skip (yes skip)away with my other friends. ^.^ Great song even if it brings back bad memories...
@midnightbluetriforce ya... Life is soooo much better with an I Don't Care wth you Think attitude and i totally love my real friends. We're like sisters and some of us actually look like eachother!
this is what life was like when i was in elementery school. I used to hang out with a bunch of total snobs then half way through I started realizing what they were. So i told them i was goin to leave their group and find some new friends. They threatened me to stay but i left anyway. They all told the whole grade(which was about 40ish kids sepperated into 2 classes) horrible lies about me and they would tell other people that i would say bad things about them when i really liked the person.
@Lizzilolaphobia Ur lucky to have a group of friends who love Japanese culture as much as you do, my friends don't and they think I'm weird for it...:(
@Lizzilolaphobia I am the only one at my idiotic, stupid, ugly school in a little "village" in Norway..... God, I hate almost all of the idiotic people in my stupid school.....
its a shame vocaloid is mainly jap and any of the others are neglected, it lets alot of very meaningful songs to be made rather then some current music that repeats one word over and over or sticks to one or two meanings
Any Filipinos out there who noticed she just said "Inay" and "Itay" for 3 times at 1:04 and 1:10 respectively?o.o I know it means "none" and "it hurts" but still.XD
@MegamanRedJoker1 Lots of other girls (and some boys) do too, unfortunately. People should learn to just be themselves and being popular isn't a wonderful thing.
@spenchan Yeah it's all about getting your head in the right place. Once you do that being yourself is easy and other people's opinions are genuinely irrelevent; unfortunately, getting your head in the right place seems to be the hard part for a lot of people. :(
@rampaige95 Implying that people only get used in high school. Grow up, seriously. Attention whore. Shit happens to everyone everywhere no matter what age.
@twinblademasta I didn't say it wasn't ABOUT high school, but stuff like this happens ANYWHERE IN LIFE. And stay out of it, bitch. You see a fucking internet argument, STAY OUT. ITS NOT YOUR FUCKING ARGUMENT, DUMBASS.
@DelusionalCupcakes It is now, just cause your being a bitch about it. And now your just fucking contradicting yourself. And everyone already knows shit happens other places, no one says they didn't. So fuck you.
Nope, This is by Scop and 1925 is by T-POCKET. I think T-POCKET took inspiration from this song, Since Marionette Syndrome was made waayyy before 1925
never knew what the song really means before watching this.. this song shows how the real world is, unlike most of the others.. hope will have romanji lyrics so i can learn how to sing the song
Wow, so Ironic this song is so happily sung, but I think it is best sounding this way, for the fact of it is a perfect portrayal of school before college, where people are so two faced, just like the song itself, lol.
@YamioSama: It does bring you happiness. As long as you can use effective, stable methods to keep your popularity, that is.
Popularity brings sadness to people simply because they couldn't get used to being some background characters after all the great time they spent. With popularity, you can do lots of thing, and use other people as tool pretty much easily.
When you're bored, just throw away your popularity like trash. Things get as good as new :P.
@YamioSama you don't have to be "as cute as them" to be "popular." it's not always the case. there's popular people i've seen that aren't cute, but just different or loud in a good way, that makes them approachable. doesn't necessarily mean they're all liars either. XD
@yaoiluva1127 Me too. I ignored it and got bullied. This went on for a few years until I developed proper rhinoceros skin - that and slightly better social skills. It didn't help that I had these habits like totally ignoring the social ladder, smiling and being silly whenever I liked. In public. Overall though, if I had to go back and redo everything I'd still take a bit of bullying over playing by rules I disliked for stakes I wan't interested in any day.
I love this song because its just the way teenagers feel about themselves, well some of them.
unless their the ones that want to act like b****'s and think their so pretty then that means their ugly on the inside, and wont show their true face under all that make up.

@kawaiikishu im one of those weirdos who is just myself, isnt afraid to dress different and doesnt care what other people think. cause i got sick of doing exactly whats in the song:)
@kawaiikishu Honestly I think the b****s feel like that too, and it's not just teenagers either. It's a real shame that even in environments that are physically safe, people still have to be scared of being hurt by other people. Emotional safety gets neglected a lot, so everyone goes around wearing masks and trying to be the same as everybody else to protect themselves, and still wind up scarred and numb because you can't be happy like that.

RachelTheHegdeCat 7 months ago
this is what life was like when i was in elementery school. I used to hang out with a bunch of total snobs then half way through I started realizing what they were. So i told them i was goin to leave their group and find some new friends. They threatened me to stay but i left anyway. They all told the whole grade(which was about 40ish kids sepperated into 2 classes) horrible lies about me and they would tell other people that i would say bad things about them when i really liked the person.

its a shame vocaloid is mainly jap and any of the others are neglected, it lets alot of very meaningful songs to be made rather then some current music that repeats one word over and over or sticks to one or two meanings

@YamioSama Is it weird that this also describes the kids that the Marionettes torture?
In a way, they're like puppets, too, being jerked around by other puppets, all pulling each other around...
...man, this is a complicated system of string-pulling.

@MegamanRedJoker1 Lots of other girls (and some boys) do too, unfortunately. People should learn to just be themselves and being popular isn't a wonderful thing.
spenchan 10 months ago
@spenchan Yeah it's all about getting your head in the right place. Once you do that being yourself is easy and other people's opinions are genuinely irrelevent; unfortunately, getting your head in the right place seems to be the hard part for a lot of people. :(

Nope, This is by Scop and 1925 is by T-POCKET. I think T-POCKET took inspiration from this song, Since Marionette Syndrome was made waayyy before 1925

gameboi9321 1 year ago
Wow, so Ironic this song is so happily sung, but I think it is best sounding this way, for the fact of it is a perfect portrayal of school before college, where people are so two faced, just like the song itself, lol.

I so relate to this song.
AMICHAN203 1 year ago
This is really a good message. People have to act as robots or puppets to be what society wants them to be.
MsRrainey 1 year ago
It is so sad because it is so true.
Many people wants to be the popular girl, but being popular doesn´t bring you happiness. You have to be "as cute as them".
A bunch of liars.
YamioSama 1 year ago 192
@YamioSama One of the many reasons people should not bother trying.
BrightStarCat 9 months ago
@YamioSama: It does bring you happiness. As long as you can use effective, stable methods to keep your popularity, that is.
Popularity brings sadness to people simply because they couldn't get used to being some background characters after all the great time they spent. With popularity, you can do lots of thing, and use other people as tool pretty much easily.
When you're bored, just throw away your popularity like trash. Things get as good as new :P.

@YamioSama Yes, I hate it. Glad I am a tomboy and got real friends.
mewtuwa 8 months ago
@YamioSama you don't have to be "as cute as them" to be "popular." it's not always the case. there's popular people i've seen that aren't cute, but just different or loud in a good way, that makes them approachable. doesn't necessarily mean they're all liars either. XD

yaoiluva1127 1 year ago

@kawaiikishu im one of those weirdos who is just myself, isnt afraid to dress different and doesnt care what other people think. cause i got sick of doing exactly whats in the song:)
higurashimori 1 year ago
@kawaiikishu Honestly I think the b****s feel like that too, and it's not just teenagers either. It's a real shame that even in environments that are physically safe, people still have to be scared of being hurt by other people. Emotional safety gets neglected a lot, so everyone goes around wearing masks and trying to be the same as everybody else to protect themselves, and still wind up scarred and numb because you can't be happy like that.
