  • 1st-I always learn while I'm alive. 2nd-I did not say anywhere that Hippies and Pagans are exactly the same.I only made an Analogy. And, yes you share this regression and attitude towards "Nature"( your lil"own" definition of nature which might be Tree-hugging, Moon worshipping etc. For me nature is something else) Other similarities you both share are : being technophobic, and experiencing a culture shock in this digital age. Also you both have a naivety in scientific and social understanding

  • @Neueregel "technophobic, culture shock, naivety in science and social understanding, tree hugging" are you fucking serious?????hahahahaha you just used a bunch of ridiculous stereotypes further proving you are talking out of your ass and that you have absolutely no knowledge of what we are about. Thanx for proving my point for me. Since you were trying to give me debating tips here's one for you, use facts not retarded ill founded stereotypes. It makes you look like an angry teenager.

  • @ROTTIMAN31 But your writing style, you are the angry one.Are you offended so much by a different opinion? My main argument is : "Internet is where ALL religions come to die. Paganism included." You can't stop the flow of information and deeper scientific understanding of the concepts you interpret by worshiping ancient god/gods. The Sun was a god for the Egyptians. For our 3rd millenium society, it 's accepted as a medium sized star in an outer branch inside 1 of the billions of galaxies.Simple

  • @Neueregel If I'm angry it's because you are not basing your opinions on fact. Like I said before it's not your opinion I'm concerned about it's your misinformation and belittling. Paganism is one of the fastest growing paths out there, far from dieing. Of course we understand science, our religion is old, we aren't. lol Our gods are representations of real things and yes we know what the sun is, we don't refute science. In fact our ancestors were persecuted by christians for using science.

  • @ROTTIMAN31 I agree it's one of the paths to interpret some things. It's a respectable path because it goes against the Abrahamic mainstream and most followers have a mind of their own, and aren't massively brainwashed like Muslim or Christians. However I have a strong objection to those who take their own paths as Universal Truth based on what they have read or what they interpret. "concerned about my misinformation??" Well my sources of information stem from objective/factual sources mainly.

  • @Neueregel I do not know many Pagans that are dogmatic and that believe you must believe this or that, one of the things that attracts many people to it and away from mainstream religions is because of its lack of dogmatic beliefs, may I kindly advise you study it more?

  • @Neueregel That's about as absurd as saying we're all satanists. It boggles my mind why people who have no clue what they're talking about speak as if they do.

  • @ROTTIMAN31 No. I did not mentioned "Satanists". You only, mentioned that analogy. I only said they(you) are similar to Hippies because of your regression and attitude to get "Back to Nature". At least you don't do so many drugs that's an improvement.

  • @Neueregel Regression?? What you're too good for nature? Mankind is killing the planet for greed and you're saying we're regressing? lmao The world actually needs more nature, maybe then we would realize what the hell we're doing to ourselves. Mankind's problem is that we have forgotten what is important in life.

  • @ROTTIMAN31 I agree with your good intentions. However i don^t have to support idiotic inexistent deities in order to respect nature and my planet. I really don't. We are the 3rd Millenium you know.

  • @Neueregel You don't have to support deities to be pagan or spiritual and your lack of respect for others beliefs is disgusting and shows you have a lot of growing to do.

  • @ROTTIMAN31 1. I am neither spiritual or pagan. 2. I respect everyone's opinion and I reply in a civilised way. 3. Above, everything, I have MY OWN opinions. You could not care less about me, but that's the way it is, since i come from a very different educational background than you. What should everyone agree with you? Learn to discuss without Ad Hominem attacks. It might be good for your future debating skills.

  • @Neueregel "You come from a very different educational background"?? I had no idea you were psychic. Of course I don't expect everyone to agree with me but they should have the decency to respect my beliefs and have an actually understanding about it before making nonsense statements about it. The title of this video is pretty clear about what it's about so why did u come here in the first place?

  • @ROTTIMAN31 You are making a mistake dude. Not agreeing with something , does not mean you don't watch it at all ! To develop critical thinking skills you have to check all different opinions. I checked this vid here to learn more about Paganism. After learning about this movement my disagreement grew stronger and I consider my self 100% Anti-Pagan. I find the whole thing immensely immature, that's my opinion. Remember to check different opinions in order to formulate yours in a more solid basis

  • @Neueregel oh so you watched a couple videos on youtube and now you know everything there is to know about paganism huh? lol HILARIOUS! The fact that you compared us to hippies shows beyond a fact that you know nothing about paganism. You know I don't approve of christians, muslims and jews but I don't feel the need to search out their videos just to insult them. Yeah you are entitled to your opinion but you can also stfu and keep it to yourself. You atheists are just as obnoxious as christards

  • @ROTTIMAN31 You see? When you are empty of arguments, you start Ad Hominem personal attacks with no basis. I know about Paganism nearly since I was born, I am greek born/raised, my anchestors were Pagans and I read greek mythology since i was in my Cradle. However after exploring all kinds of beliefs I don't feel the need to take all that ancient Gibberish seriously. It's the internet age. Come on man.

  • @Neueregel I don't care what you believe and that's not my concern. My concern is you seeking out pagan videos for the purpose of being an ass and giving bullshit comparisons. Yeah I'm talking about you, that's the whole point!! You say pagans are hippies because of nature? ok so by that rediculous logic we could conclude that sharks are the same as lobster because of the water? lol If you have known paganism since you were born then why did you come here to learn like you previously said? Troll

  • @Neueregel Christian.....scum almost drove Britain's true religion to extinction

  • I am the up-loader of this video. Anyone interested in the paranormal, I have a website and forum to discuss these things. It has over 2000 active members, countless photos and other videos. Please feel free to join here hauntedtavern. proboards. co m put the link together in your address bar. or click on the link in the description. Thanks

  • if you are looking for answers then you need to watch JIDDU KRISHNAMURTI!

  • Hastings Jack in the Green is exclusively funded by Hastings Borough Council, and as the festival's secretary I take a dim view of footage being used to promote anything which doesn't actively support Hastings - and this film, with its quasi-religious overtones, clearly doesn't. A donation to the RNLI at Hastings would at least suggest the film-makers have the decency to acknowledge the source of their ideas.

  • What utter twaddle this short film is.

Lovely to hear Tom Baker, though, whatever crap he's been given to read. Good also to see old friends in the hastings Jack in The Green clips too.

  • As founder and researcher of the Hastings Jack in the Green I can only say that whoever put those images on the festival has it all wrong. It can be traced back only as far as the early 19th century and all this clip is wishful thinking.

  • I love being a shaman, all of my grandmothers were medicine women, and I love myself and my Earth Goddess (:

  • This is not pagan, this is a 12 year old girl>;(

  • That is most certainly not what Wicca is, that guy is wrong.

Magic is not supernatural and Wicca is not a "mystery" religion.

  • @Handitar It is a mystery religion considering there are oath bound secrets that only initiates into the cult are allowed to know.

  • wish I had the money to buy this, it looks so interesting....crap i hate being broke.

lol, some of the comments on here are hilarious too. You guys are awesome.

  • You & me both!

  • But Bobcat is great :-)

  • I love the pagans with the palstic garden chairs ...ROFLMAO

  • You're ignorant.

  • Ha! And you are a Idiot. You are if you

have read my comment and answered

    like this

  • Define 'ignorant'; my answer is logical unlike yours.

  • Yours is not logical. Look what i have

wrote first (my first comment you have

answered to) and then what you have

    wrote.

I dont have to define a word, what the

    hell... ?

  • You made a statement with no evidence and stereotyping every Neo/pagan. Also your statement is very vague; especially when you say that pagans didn't exist. Do you mean back before Christiany?

  • I am a greek Polytheist and i know

    Neopaganism and the neopagan

Lies very Good. The term "pagan"

was created and used by the church

in the past to destroy our culture and

    religion.

we never were pagan, wether our

    gods and our religion.

I mean before and after christianity.

  • Yes I know that Pagan was used meaning "disbeliever in God". However today it is just used as an umbrella term which in contrast is almost always used in the context of post Christianity.

  • A umbrella term of neopaganism that

has nothing to do with us-

  • It doesn't matter really. Because to Chistians Pagan is anyone who does not believe in their God.

  • Well to us it does matter. White people

dont call black people "negro" anymore.

    It is the same thing.

  • Obviously that is a problem with religion. That is why I am Atheist.

  • Not Religion but christianity.

  • Hang on... is that Tom Baker?! IT BLOODY IS! Hurrah!

  • you all foget that not only wicca and neoceltic paganism exist.. but in eastern countries there are a lot of groups of people who try to renovate the old Slavic feasts and traditions... :)

  • oh screw you

  • BE EXCELLENT TO EACH OTHER!!!

  • Comment removed

  • The foreign Middle Eastern religion Christianity and their doctrine which is anti Indo European, does not represent the nomadic Pagan Celts from around the world. The Hill of Taras Royal Grove is asking all Druids from around the world to unite together against the Middle Eastern Christian extremists who wish to bring harm to the citizens of ancient Gaul, which is the Unification of the EU. Sincerely the Druid's Brehon Laws

  • over all, its a very accurate video. Better than most. I enjoyed it

  • lol, I saw Hutton at a lecture in Manchester today, kinda wierd him talking about Paganism after hearing him speaking about Henry VIII's break with Rome.

  • Somehow the plastic chairs put me off...

  • It probbaly should of been called NEO-pagan.... as Wicca and most modern druids are neo-pagans NOT pagans.

As for me though, Atheism FTW!

  • if you listion that huming song at the begining around 0:58 an ending at 1:23 is fucking beutiful

  • It's Enya.

  • do you know the name of the Enya's song ?

  • Its called Boadicea by Enya.

  • @JAMIE6SUPERSTAR

    Enya - Boadicea

  • i wish this full length video was so expensive

  • After the South Quarter was called ... "And then we call the quarters ..."

Bad editing. But, overall, a nice educational documentary.

  • Thanks for posting this! I'd love to see the full version, but the link you provide says $89,95. Is there any other way?

  • so you want to define paganism so you define wicca thats wonderfull you are aware that other pagans do exist also that wicca isnt that old

  • True, but Gerald Gardner might've been right, that there really was a Pagan religion that he helped revive through Wicca. All we know is that Wicca is a revival of Pagan shamanism in general.

  • How very civilised, a Pagan circle with plastic garden chairs - not too close to the fire I hope. And of course Tom Baker's narration adds serious ambience - all that is missing is his famouse "Britain, Britain, Britain...". If you want to study Paganism read Prof. Hutton's 'Stations of the Sun' or 'The Triumph of the Moon'. If you want to expeience Paganism, sit out in an open field for a day and night and just listen and see all that Nature has to offer.

  • I am sorry, this was a fantastic and informative video but every time Dr who spoke I thought of little britain :/

  • Fantastic to see one of our local festivals in here. The Jack In The Green.

Catch the Pentacle Drummers there this year making all the noise.

    Blessed Be.

  • what a shame its so short. A very good film (an narrated by the beloved Tom Baker :) )

  • This is a subject that has always fascinated me.. i dont have family members to guide me and hand down essential imformation to take me forward :(

  • Come to my forum, we have some Pagans there that could advise you.

  • This video is well presented and Prof. Hutton gives an excellent scholary view. As for its detractors, anyone in clinical counselling knows that humans attack when they are frightened. New religions will always frighten some people and they will develop elaborate "rational" arguments to support, yet obscure their fear. Paganism is an essentially experiential religion as and,as such is not dependent on conventional rational debate for its legitimacy. You either understand it or you do not.

  • Thank you Prof. Ronald Hutten, for being an objective voice of truth in the face of so much false information regarding Paganism!

  • We were also Barbarians which I am proud of...

  • Being most Pagans recognise the light and dark side of nature equally and accept them, I think your rather confused. I think your talking about the group of Pagans that are known as 'fluff Bunny' love and light Pagans. However they are only one group of many kinds of Pagan. You point is also hard to understand as your not very clear.

  • Not sure what your on about. But try not tarnishing all "Neo-Pagans" with the same brush. Paganism is very diverse, some pagans are very conservative and would not dream about being naked in front of others let alone wild orgies. Me thinks you watch to many Hollywood movies.

  • Well I actually dont watch hollywood movies cuz they are a load of bullshit I prefer to have a more constructive day like working.. I am not saying all neo pagans are the same but it is just the way they come across on documentaries I dont think they really do understand and they think themselves as gods and goddesses WE HAVE NO RIGHT woman or men saying we are goddesses or gods it is shamfull even to think of yourself as a god...

  • In all my years being involved in Paganism I really havent heard of people thinking themselves as gods.

  • Interesting but too bad they used "Druid" -- no one knows a thing about what Druids did, just a few outsider references to oaks and mistletoe. Ditto "Wicca" pronounced "Wicka" -- in old english it would be cc = ch for Wicha, as in "witch." I'm all for paganism and animism etc etc but it's kind of embarrassing when some people try to lift and dramatize bits and pieces like "Raven and Rose." Yikes. Sorry. Didn't mean to rant.

  • In the clip you have seen Prof. Ronald Hutton he has written many important books about Druidry. He is man that commited himself to the deepest research . Read his books about Druidry.

Bye the way , they are lots of information about Druidry passed down from the Romans and some other old sources.

  • Sorry, no, there is only a little info and its second hand. As for Hutton, he is an expert indeed in many areas but "He questioned many assumptions about its development and argued that many of the claimed connections to longstanding hidden pagan traditions are questionable at best." Things true of Celts in general might not been true of their priests, just as someone just observing ordinary folks celebrating Xmas would get a profound knowledge of Christianity and theology.

  • Very true. But although much of the knowledge has been lost, some of it has been kept alive through word of mouth over the centuries, humans have a very good way of keeping stories alive through family heritage, even if the knowledge changed slightly like Chinese whispers.

  • I think both academic historians and modern Druids have much to teach us. Modern druids have the same mind set and a worship of nature as the Druids, so will know much by intuition on what the past druids knew about nature, they today have the same supernatural feeling for nature, that can be much more valuable than what some archaeologist can give. The druids used nature to gain understanding by connecting themselves to nature, modern druids do that also.

  • Hi, Faeden--I had a nice email from awen, above, which essentially said the same thought. I think there may just be questions about "labels"--whether you call it "animism" or "pantheism"--all things are full of gods, as Heraclitus said, and some people, modern and ancient, can sense them, some don't. I think that part is older than historical Druids and may or may not be similiar in key respects, hence I questioned the label, not the practices.

  • If you analyse this from debate standpoint, The one thing that secular or non Christians do,is criticize Christianity because allot or most of it was handed down, hear say and old folk tale told over and over again. Yet, that is how most of Druid history has come about. Seems there is just as much a case for Druidism as there is for Christianity using that logic. Seems there is just as much case for Jesus as what the Druids actually did as practice.

  • Except there is proof the Druids existed, and little to no proof that Jesus did. I think the modern Druids know more than what modern archaeology believe the modern Druids know, because they have a deep relationship with nature just like the original druids did, scientists do not, their scepticism can somewhat hold them back in some respects.

  • Actually, sandyha60, your argument works against itself--this is an area I know, history of religion--if you trace that history, pretty much all the events placed into the life of Jesus were exact retellings of Mithradism , which drew its points from earlier religions still. After all, the essence of Isis-Osiris story is his death and ressurrection.
