sony cannot put ps2 games on the vita and also the ps3 because the graphics engine, they had to take it out of the ps3 because of the price it cost for that chip would up the price of the ps3, they could not sell it for the price it is now, nuff of the ps2 playback shit its never going to happen.

@HDVLAD No it won't read UMDs, but maybe if you register your games on the Playstation Network you will be able to download them onto your Vita(a rumour I heard). PS Vita will read flash cards because there is no optical lens needed and has a much greater storage capacity than UMDs.

@e14kid100 just like on smartphones you have to pay a monthly fee, BUT the money isnt all going to sony, in the US AT&T will provide you with internet connection and you have to pay them, im guessing 5 dollars a month :P dont forget, connected to the internet EVERYWERE, everywhere twitter facebook youtube smosh or just online gaming wherever and whenever you want, i think its pretty cool :D

Although the developers won't do this as this will strain the battery life + putting too much pressure on the GPU causing the device to heat up fast FOR CRYING OUT LOUD!
