  • Joan's big voice drowns out Mary's more subtle voice I think.

  • Sung so beautifully and powerful and still so important today. Hope the message will live on. RIP Pretty Mary.

  • The both were so beautiful; So talented, yet sometimes so confused, and out of reality. They made "just being different a cause, and a sucess.

  • @otherworldtrader1 They were very beautiful, very talented, very unconfused and very in touch with reality. Part of their success was that their cause was increasing that of us all.

  • Golden notes...words of stone...song of true troubadors...love always. Walk on...

  • I LOVE JOAN and MARY! TWO of LOVE, PEACE and JUSTICES.. GREATEST TROUBADORS! LOVE YOU JOAN and MISS YOU MARY!!! KEEP ON WALKING ON!

  • Beautiful voices. Inspirational.

  • ...Are there two more beautiful voices.......?

    Stunning.

  • I've often wondered if there are any other videos of Joan & Mary singing together?

I have not been able to locate any other ones.

Two incredible ladies, two incredible voices blended together - so beautiful!

    Thanks for posting this!

  • Aren't women wonderful?!

  • Mary Travers and Joan Baez have the two finest and most powerful voices i have ever heard. Together, solo, or in harmony, their voices blend in a very strong and passionate vocal sound that has never been matched. Thank God for Mary and for Joan. They had the courage to stand up for causes that they believe in, and to sing as they engaged the rest of us to make us think about what was really going on in the world. Call it protest, or singing, they stood up for what they believed. Thank You!

  • two of the purest, most beautiful voices I've ever heard.

  • sounds like Cackling old Hens...

  • @MusicCriticHater You sound like you must be one of the five morons who dislike the song, you certainly have a great code name, I certainly qualify as hating your music criticism, as if you could possibly qualified to be taken seriously, you are clearly blessed with infinite idiocy, an irrelevant idiot at that...

  • @MusicCriticHater -- I suppose you expect to anger people with your comment. It doesn't work that way. Most of us simply feel sorry that you can't enjoy the beauty of music like this.

  • The problem today is that there is no social conscience, nobody that will stand up and say the things that need to be said about war, labor, health, etc. Social apathy has reached an all time high (or low, however you look at it). No one cares about the world situation or even the country's situation. We just watch the boobtube, and switch off our minds. In the 60's and 70's the media shoved the VietNam war and the labor strikes and oppression down our throats nightly until we did something

  • no : in '63 Joan is 22 years old

    (1941, Jan. 9)

  • I just now in the wee hours of the morning stumbled onto this gem, and after replaying it at least ten times I thought I could and should at least thank you for posting it. I had no idea this treasure was "out there", and I will cherish it forever. Bless you for sharing this!

  • This is amazing

  • Mary Travers was my singing role model. I loved her so. Joan, of course, was a presence, but Mary was so special. I learned to play guitar and sing using the PP&M songbook, which I still have all these years later. I never knew of this duet. Thanks.

  • These 2 women are the epitome of talent and grace. I get emotional every time I hear this song Is it possible to download this video?

    DGL

  • @DGLevitus It is possible to download this video.

  • The most striking thing about this arrangement is that Mary refuses to let Joan to overpower her. It's rare to hear someone duet with Joan and have to same volume. I listen to this on repeat often.

  • @TheArtfulVlogger Thank you for your comment!

  • @TheArtfulVlogger I don't understand your comment? "Mary refuses to let Joan to overpower her"????

    Saskia

  • @TheArtfulVlogger ...isn't Mary mostly singing lead?

  • Thank God that Joan is still with us.

Part of me died when Mary did.

  • @msattler111 I thought I was the only one who felt that way...I discovered PP&M when I was very young. I fell so in love with them and especially Mary...I wanted so much to be like her. I have followed their careers and personal lives for almost 50yrs. Had the great privelege and honor to meet and talk with Mary several times over the years. She was an extraordinary woman and I was so blessed to have her in my life,,in any capacity. The void she left will never be filled..RIP our sweet Mary <3

  • Oh, the happy memories of a life that was so meaningful then...

  • Remembering anti Vietnam war marches, long hours picketing to boycott grapes, lettuce & Gallo wine, rallies to force our govt. to divest from South Africa's apartheid state. Now its the Boycott, Divest & Sanctions movement against Israeli apartheid, occupation & siege of Palestinians. "Ain't nobody else gonna walk it for you. You got to walk it for yourself." Ready, as usual, to be opposed by the powers that be.

  • Joan was born on 1941, Jan 9 : so in '63 she was 22 years old...

    :)

  • Thank you for posting this. Oh what I missed being born too late. I grew up with my parents playing both of these ladies. When Mary died I truly felt I lost a family member though I never meant her. My eyes are welling now as I write this. I just know wherever Mary is she's young and beautiful again waiting to sing her friends home.

  • Oh, you are so kind-hearted and sweet. Please take care!

  • @zamusicza you are never born to late if you have you tube and a cd player .

    Peace.

  • Beautiful

  • I hate to be shallow but these two women were stunningly beautiful as well as having those voices!!

  • You are not shallow at all. When I was growing up I always wanted to look like Joan Baez, and Mary Travers is just awesome, and a beautiful woman herself. Take care.

  • Isn't that the truth. Truth is a lonesome walk alright.

  • this is why Folk Festivals are so

    Righteous !!

"ain't nobody can join it for you"

still the same today, whether it be protesting the rich planet wreckers at the Copenhagen Conference,

or just some dad laying off his work and bringing up baby.

    or whatever

  • Another rate find. Love it. Thanks.

  • Classic this is the first time ever know they sang together ....wow !!!!

  • Absolutely marvelous!

I'm wishing for a time machine!

  • lol, don`t we all. Take care!

  • Yeah, that`s what I told them, but people kept insisting it was later. I didn`t really know so I just put down the date they say it was. Thanks Chistophe for being on my side.

  • WOW! EXCELLANT DUET!

They just adlibed this entire song & it was so moving & beaautifully done. The test of true talent & musical strength.

    PEACE BE WITH YOU, MARY

  • two beautiful voices~ Love this~

    Excellent.

  • Wow. So beautiful. Two of my favorite singers.

  • Two of the greatest folk singers ever - RIP dear Mary.

    Sas

  • Two of my favorite female singers together; can't believe I never heard this before. Thanks for posting. Mary Traver's will be missed but the beauty of her voice and the meaning of her words will live with us forever. - writeroffthelake at Geneva-on-the-Lake, Ohio's oldest summer resort

  • Joan Baez was born in 1941. In 1966 she was 25.

  • I think this from 1963, not 66. She was not there in 66.

  • thank you for sharing this beautiful recording with all of us. Mary's voice, truth and strength have taught not only my parents generation, and mine but will continue to inspire the future generations of my children and possibly someday grandchildren as long as we truely learned to pass on the torch of equality, peace and love that show you that all you shared with us was not in vain!! Thank You Mary! May you rest in peace, loved by many!

  • RIP dear sister

  • You, Mar, led us through some important miles of that valley. So many thanks to you.

  • So sad to lose you dear Mary . . .always to be remembered as a great inspiration . xo

  • Rest in peace, Mary. Your soul was as beautiful as your voice. I will miss you.

  • Mary, may your voice live

    forever

  • RIP Mary Travers. Yoour amazing voice has joined Heaven's Choir for eternity. Thank you!

  • Um. Joan was 18 or 19 at the 1959 Newport Folk Festival--18, I think. So she was at least 25 by the Festival in '66. Mary Travers must have been 3 or 4 years older.

  • I might have gotten the dates wrong. Anyway, today my heart is heavy and my eyes are filled with tears as I learned of Mary Travers `s death today. She was a beautiful woman inside and out.

  • Joan Baez: January 9, 1941

    Mary Travers: November 9, 1936

Thankyou for this. It's a lovely piece.

    ==

  • Incredible. I love it. This reminds me of seeing Joan Baez at Club 47.

  • oh, you`re so lucky to have seen Joan at club 47! I`m envious!
