As far as I'm concerned, the characters they picked for SF4 are the only characters worthy of being in a street fighter title. They got rid of the meh characters from 2, kept the good ones from 2, and kept the good ones from other games. It's perfect.

The SF3 characters were left out because this was meant to be a prequal to SF3 and a direct sequal to SF2 to fill up the holes in typical lousy Capcom Fighting Game Storytelling.

Ibuki, Yun and Yang, Matoko etc are all too young.

Fans have been begging for E.Honda to at least make a cameo for ages, and Dhalsim has been a Street Fighter staple for a very long time now.

FYI. most of the players in this game are originals from SF2. The character design in third strike was dreadful. Plus whatever "awesome features" they took out from third strike doesn't mean a pinch of shit because if you get good you will still own noobs. This isn't a continuation of the SF3 series, the storyline takes place before SF3 hence few SF3 characters.

Its not what your missing, its just older SF fans will enjoy it more than you.

He seems to know how to play SF3 and i agree with him about capcom making the franchise more "broad audience oriented", SF3 seems like a much faster fighting game than this.

Btw, SF3 3rd strike is for many ppl, (including me) the best 2D fighting game yet. Not perfect, but close (that twelve character prove it, as you mentioned)

However which SF that is considered the best is totally opinion. Personally i Consider SF2 the most enjoyable.

And the only reason 3rd strike is so popular is because it was the last SF disk release (Before SF4) and EVO and SBO picked it up.

Oh yes Third strike is very popular. Peep my favorites and look for "The beast is unleashed".

And when i Say the storyline strayed too far from Street fighter concept i mean that game is almost entirely separate from all the actions and events in the previous games. It has little bearing to the plot of the street fighter games. And the lead character designer made odd characters for Third strike in my opinion lol.

SFIII distanced itself from SFII a little too much in that there weren't enough returning characters in the game, which alienated a lot of the casual SF players who didn't want to be bothered with learning new moves and combos all over again, and many of the new characters had poor design choices. SFIV brings the franchise back to the mainstream audience while still having enough depth to satisfy the hardcore crowd.

I agree. Even I was a tad disapointed just at the art design of the characters, only because I had the older street fighter anime's in mind. But thats only my personal opinion, I won't deny the graphics are wonderful, they really stepped it up for sf4. The gameplay is just mindblowingly better than anything else out there in this genre now.
