I corresponded with Steve Hunter for a spell a couple years ago, and some of his other influences (according to Steve) were: Jeff Beck, David Gilmour,Billy Gibbons, and of course his friend and teacher Ted Greene. Steve is a cool dude, nice person.
The version of "Eighteen" that plays at the beginning of all these video clips is a testimony to why Steve Hunter and Dick Wagner are held in such high esteem. Listen to the whole song ( from "The Alice Cooper Show" album ) and focus on the guitar solos and the twin leads at the finale and you will understand......no one phrases like these guys--they are unique and original.
When I was 12 I bought "The Alice Cooper Show" about a month after it was released because I liked the album cover. My life changed after I actually listened to the album. I still listen to it almost daily.
Dick Wagner and Steve Hunter were so good as a team, Lou Reed got his underwear in a bind when he found he could not compete with these "hired guns"!
