I call bullshit. You can't possibly build one of these things with soda cans. It's a lie designed to keep the population calm. Fucking show me, then I'll believe it.
hook up the spinning disk to a water pump and put a coil of pipe through ice in a cooler and run the cold water back through engine to cool it. once warmed by engine the water then leaves the engine and goes back through the ice, repeating the process. then hook the engine up to whatever you want.

@mathscirocks Thanks, I'd like to do some how to vids but my computer is too slow to edit the HD vids! There's some guides on my website in the description, though.
ive been working on one of these. however i keep on encountering a problem. when i turn the flywheel, it only turns about 1 or 1 1/2 times...how can i fix this problem? i followed every step, but the only problem is it doesnt spin very well...plz help asap
@phoshizzo You could try replacing one or both of the bearings with sheet metal ? It sound like something is not well aligned though. Perhaps loosen the balloon.
i get the top assembly and how to do the cans but i forget how it goes under the balloon i know the piston is in there but what and how it attaches i'm oblivious a little help? i love these things!
Hi,can someone please message me telling me what these are used for, why, and what liquid was used to make the plastic capp go up and down thankyou A.S.A.P
I just built one myself and I'm having issues getting it going. I followed your instructable almost identical and I was very meticulous. I'm a mechanic, so I didn't figure it'd be too hard to make.
For the displacer, I used a little condiment container with a lid. I didn't have any steel wool at my house. I was wondering if this displacer is too light weight. There's no problem with the displacer falling down.
The other issue is I don't know the timing very well... Any advice?
@joeknowsbaseball Did you seal up the displacer container ? If it's not sealed it might not work because the containers contains a load of useless dead air space that heat's up and creates pressure that can't be controlled. Wire wool works because it takes up most of the air space. The lighter the displacer the better!
The timing should be that if lay the displacer arm of the cranks flat on the table, the other two arms should point perfectly vertical.
I can't really say whether it's hard or not. I found it very easy but I've built quite a few Stirlings, it depends on the person whether they find it hard or not. You can look
on my site in the more info box to find the instructions, if you want to see what it involves to build one of these.
@SthealthRaider When you put the cut can on the other can you're not pushing from the top because that will rip it. When you make the next one, cut the top can's bottom off and push it onto another can this will make it easier to fit. Thendo the rest.
Maybe the balloon is too tight, or too small. Or it could be that the stroke of it is too long .
Perhaps you could post some photo's somewhere ? My first engine took some ridiculous amount of time to get working, but after that it became easier
How does it work? Tea candle heats bottom of the can. I'm guessing that balloon is not directly exposed to flame. Or is it? I've seen balloon that didn't break as long as there was water in it. Are you going to post some Instructables or something like that?
Yes there is an instructable that I wrote I can't add a link here for some reason but I'll but the link in the more info box. Have a look it should answer your questions.
@locouk It supposed to work as a regenerator to make it more efficient. Plus I think it reduces the dead space in the engine because you can shape it to the domes in the can.
Cool! I'm gonna make a steampunk breast pump!
