Less than a dozen people in Taiji 400 years ago hunted dolphins and whales, and it wasn't even close to half the scale of what it is today, they didn't even do it the same way, that sure is respecting tradition with new boats, knives, nets, and using aquariums.

Do I like deer or bear hunting? Hell no, but there are huge differences.

1) The deer population has been thrown out of whack due to the destruction of predator species.

2) Bears are killed because of human encroachment on their territory, which is highly unfortunate.

3) The dolphins meat is toxic, and exceeds safety levels by hundreds of times making it a useless food product.

4) When sentient lives affect sentient lives it's my business.

I don't like dolphins because they're pretty or cute, I really couldn't care less about their appearance. Like they say "it's what's on the inside that counts." Dolphins are sentient beings, and cetacean researchers are currently pushing to have dolphins recognized as "non-human persons" to give them something like human rights due to their highly devolved brains and emotions. Humans can see the moral and ecological reasons, and even animals find reasons why not to eat certain animals, such as large predator fish won't eat cleaner fish.
