Thanks for the vid. I do have one recommendation for lube for those that can't find the "Silicon" grease. Try using Dielectric grease, it's sold at most auto-stores. This grease is usually used to prevent corroding and water penetration in automotive electrical connections. It's non conductive and it seems like the grease properties are working for now. However, I don't know how long the grease will last but it's super cheap and you can use it when changing spark plugs in your vehicle :).
Yesterday I removed the squeaking and send a thanks below. I've been listening to the squeking for almost 2½ years now. This morning I was surprised because I somehow missed the noise. Can you make a video on how to make it squeak again? :oD Just kidding ;o)
Honestly I'm not going to be getting any Razer mouse ever again, not that it wasn't awesome, but after about 5-6 months It has stopped working correctly.. I always have to clean the lens otherwise tracking doesn't work correctly..
a million thanks....just did it on my mamba!!! Your instructions were perfect...........although couldnt bother go looking for a silicone paste, I just used vaseline :)
This mouse is very strangely made. So much cost for the squeaky and slack wheel - it goes right and left and is not stable. The plastic of the button - in my case left - kinda double or triple clicks (when you push the button in about the middle of it then you probably click it down too much and you hear and feel like the stuff kinda snaps or "breaks down", which should not be present in such expensive hardware...I could say that the effect of Razer's manufacturers leaves a lot to be desired.
- taking apart the 4 screws (under rear teflon, under battery and the left and right sidegrips) you can just take the whole upper part off without breaking or damaging anything(thus revealing the inner circutry yes but being careful counts)
In fact its actually safer that way since taking apart only the top part makes it harder and more prone to breakage.
its much easier if you just take out the 3 screws that hold the top onto the bottom. they are under the battery, and one under the soft rubber grip on each side. didnt know if you knew this but its WAY easier than poping to top off and i feel its a bit safer than popping clips.
Do it for a deathadder please... There is a problem with the scrolling. When I try to scroll down it goes up and when I try to scroll it up it goes down. Can I pop open my mouse the same as mamba???
hey, great video! I wanted to ask you if you've had problems with the right mouse button being very soft, to the point where it's easy to accidently click it just by resting your finger on it? Did you see any way to possibly improve an issue like that while opening your mouse? I just wanted to ask before I go tearing mine open. Thanks!
Eh, I already tore off the backplate as per this instructional video. I think I found out what I could to to get the button to accept a heavier finger rest. I'll probably epoxy a piece of cork or eraser into a spot to provide extra support.
this is seriously the worst gaming mouse out there, DO NOT BUY THIS MOUSE, i've bought 2 of them, one for me and one for my brother. my brother's mouse broke after a week, and mine keeps switching off(wasn't in wireless mode) or the cursor moves across the screen (the lens is not dirty and i have a razer mousepad) u can not play anything with this crap mouse.

Very good, I had some puzzle lube around and used it on the mouse squeaks for the diamondback 3G. Left and right mouse clicker screamed. So I took of the "top" and lubed it up, worked amazing, thanks man.
Thank you a lot dude, it wasnt really really what i needed, but the process of opening the mouse helped me a lot, the hardest part is when trying to close it again :p
Btw, i couldnt get the silicone you used, so i was going to get my hands on the wd40 wich i couldnt find either, so after all i saw a comment about some1 using vasseline, guess what? i couldnt find the vasseline so i ended up using my moms' VICHY hands cream! #LOL it works so nice, its death quiet #FTW
Does wd40 work too? cause i really dont know where to buy that silicon, im from Chile. The problem i have is not the wheel, is the first click button. I wonder if its the same place where i have to put some "oil" in orter to make it stop making that noise? really nice vid, thank you a lot in advance, hope for some answers. #FTW

Hi, thank you everyone for your comments, this has become a pretty definitive resource for this mouse's squeaking problem and I'm really happy everyone is having such success with the process.
As for the purpose of this post, I want to address everyone's "lube" questions so it will be clear from now on, so check out my amended video description for details.
@ahdomsayre Just did it with a bit of petroleum jelly. There is a bit of plastic blocking the circuitry below where you have to grease it, so as long as what you are using isnt very runny it wont get anywhere near open wires.
Putting a bit of jelly in a hole every once in a while is a small price to pay for such a great mouse.
@saykopikey@saykopikey What Mr. Ahdomsayre said in the video description is probably right, but I used WD-40 and it seems to have fixed the problem. It's really cheap - 2.50ish for a little minibottle from a grocer.
I had to spray both sides, not just the (left) side that mr. Ahdomsayre lubed in the video, but it did the trick for me.
I haven't had any trouble with it killing my mouse, and the squeaking hasn't come back... time will tell.
I admit i was very scaried about opening my baby [I jumped on my chair when I saw you taking the cutter xD] but at the first try I finally get my Mamba working without any noise at all.
Lol all the mambas are squeaking mine to!I solve the problem using other method.
Just i pick a bit of Mechanical Oil and put it betwean the left and the right buttons then flip the mouse 90º and move the wheel and it works, anyways good tip!
I used spray silicone instead by spraying it on the tip of a needle then holding the tip of the needle on the white spinning thing inside the mouse while scrolling the scroll wheel, worked great.
Was a bit scared that the clips would break but I have had the mouse since it was released, it sqeeked from the second week until now!
In my opinion if you are just slightly good working with your hands it is worth it.
holy crap thanks soo much dude that worled perfectially i had some silicone heat sink grease grom radioshack probably the same stuff conductive and all anyway thanks you save me from having to deal with customer support and breaking my mouse with sliding the mouse back
wow had the same with my diamond back - side part of a button touched - I cut it of 1mm of plastic which is not a good idea - oil/silicon is way more clever! my buttons are now a bit loose. great vid!!!!!
thank you for this, the squeaking noise was driving me insane.
i just used a little fry oil lol, seemed to did the trick as well.
just as you mentioned in your vid the difference was instantly noticable, all it took was an extremely small amount on the tip that sticks a little out of the tiny hole.
as mentioned in an earlier comment, the models seem to have changed a little with the clips, i had to open up 2 clips on each lower side first, and then go up on each to make 2 more clips pop.
yes theres a guy on here who's done the conversion to red and it seems to be pretty easy. i don't know why i can't find the video now but i'll post it if i do.
You are awesome man! Like yourself, I already send in my original Mamba only to have the replacement do the same! Contacted Razer again and they want to RMA a second time. I'll keep your instructions in mind if it happens again. I cannot believe that this is even an issue! It seems that Razer is using this new style of scroll wheel on all new Razer mouse products. I don't like it, I don't like it at all.
hey im having a hard time getting the wire cable outa the mouse. im talking about the plug that either plugs into the charging station, or the mouse itself. depending on wired or wireless. i have it in the mouse and i cant get it out T_T
Worked perfectly, not difficult at all, and didn't damage the mouse. I could not have asked for a better solution; thank you very much for this solid explanation!
Minor addendum to the video: My mouse has 2 clips towards the middle, one on each side, that should be popped by prying up and towards the back from a position on each side that is a little down the mouse's hump (towards the back). Somewhat obvious what needs to happen when you get to that step, but it wasn't what I was expecting.
Yes, I'm guessing the Mamba model has changed slightly or something. There seem to be two clips at the center, meaning that when you pop off the ones towards the bottom (by the snake logo), you'll additionally have to pull up until you hear a second pop. This tutorial works perfectly otherwise, THANKS!
Excellent video, I fixed mine in a few minutes using clipper oil. Like the person before me I recommend something besides a razor. I did get a minor scratch but nothing to cry about. The wheel even moves faster now. 5 stars!
if you paid that much for a mouse and it squeaked you would tear it apart too, especially after sending the first one back... pretty lame. Besides that fact, its a really good mouse, and i recommend it to everyone with a small cautionary note
You're probably right, I would tear it apart. I just cringe every time plastic clips are pulled on. I want one of these pretty bad but some of the newegg comments are keeping me from dropping the money on one.
@ahdomsayre I wouldn't say so. Every Mamba they have given me as a replacement has had terrible tracking issues, button sticking, and nonstop crashes/random shutdowns. The Mamba sucks compared to the Deathadder, it's just a cheap way for Razer to make money, at least back with the Deathadder they put love into it.
I swear to god i think the same, i bought it YESTERDAY! and im hating the noise from the first click, it sounds like if it had oxid on there... i did open it to explore and find the spot in where do i have to put wd40 to fix the click noise, i think it might be in the click "sliders", the ones you have to place at the same time when you want to arm it back in place. Can you give me your thoughts about that? im not really sure if that would work or maybe you have a better solution
Your a boss! I did this and it worked like a charm. I used some Vaseline, and it is PERFECT now. It takes a bit of patience to open (mainly to close) the top portion, but other than that, just take your time and it will work! I used a REALLY small flat head for everything I did. Nice job on the tut!
Hi. I'm not aware of exactly what their policy is, but the Razer rep who talked to me sent me a new mamba even after seeing this video, and I feel that Razer is also very frustrated by this problem and would understand your attempts to fix it. I also read on another forum that one of the Razer reps "recommended" not doing any work on the mouse by yourself, but that doesn't sound like a statement claiming a warranty breach if you did.
Just to let everyone know, the customer satisfaction rep from Razer emailed me under 24 hours after I posted this video stating his apologies about this issue with the mamba and got some of my info about the mouse in order to fix this issue in the future. Hopefully he will let be getting back to me about when the issue is resolved, and I will gladly post it here again so you can all get your mouses RMA'd and actually have an untempered with and non-squeaking mamba. Thanks for watching
I emailed the razer people and they obviously have heard many other people say the same thing, because basically all you have to say is my mamba squeaks and they'll email you a prepaid shipping slip and you just send it in to them and get a new one. Yes the new one doesn't squeak right, but give it a couple weeks and it will. So if you are planning to RMA it every two weeks, then that is a viable alternative to the process in this video.
But here is a suggestion, when you open the mouse don't open it from outside.
When you remove the battery you will see at the bottom side of the mouse beneath the big teflon feat 2 square wholes , just press them with the screwdriver and you will hear it them pop-out.
I like that mamba mouses squeak. You shouldn't deprive them of their only joy in life. They lead a life of abusive clicks and it's not even their fault, it's windows fault... you might as well have just taken away their lights... -_- lol
Thank you for the tip. I found that thermal compound from a finished tube worked well for me.

Hello, everyone. Experience has taught me not to mix metal with plastic; I managed to quickly and easily remove the cover with an old flimsy phone-card--anything similar (such as a guitar pick) would work without risking cosmetic damage. Once inserted, I simply slid it all the way around, quickly releasing the tabs. I used some DuPont Teflon Multi-Use Dry, Wax Lubricant which I applied using a syringe for ink-cartridge replacement--it's simply what I had lying around and may not be best.

I don't like it, I don't like it at all.

hey im having a hard time getting the wire cable outa the mouse. im talking about the plug that either plugs into the charging station, or the mouse itself. depending on wired or wireless. i have it in the mouse and i cant get it out T_T
buzzboy199 2 years ago
Worked perfectly, not difficult at all, and didn't damage the mouse. I could not have asked for a better solution; thank you very much for this solid explanation!
Minor addendum to the video: My mouse has 2 clips towards the middle, one on each side, that should be popped by prying up and towards the back from a position on each side that is a little down the mouse's hump (towards the back). Somewhat obvious what needs to happen when you get to that step, but it wasn't what I was expecting.
eluminite 2 years ago
Yes, I'm guessing the Mamba model has changed slightly or something. There seem to be two clips at the center, meaning that when you pop off the ones towards the bottom (by the snake logo), you'll additionally have to pull up until you hear a second pop. This tutorial works perfectly otherwise, THANKS!

Awesome vid! Was going to RMA my mouse but just followed your instructions and everything is good now. Many thanks!

Thanks for the video, it help me in fixing my squeaking mamba. So nice to have a silent scroll wheel again. That noise was annoying!
Also, if anyone is gonna go by some silicon grease try looking in the plumbing section. I found a small tube of it for few dollars.

Excellent video, I fixed mine in a few minutes using clipper oil. Like the person before me I recommend something besides a razor. I did get a minor scratch but nothing to cry about. The wheel even moves faster now. 5 stars!

After hearing that Razer's RMA'd mouse was just as bad, I followed your guide and had a non-squeaking Mamba in a few minutes. Thanks for the video.
One tip: Try to use a thin plastic device to pry open the mouse. Anything metallic will gouge the case on your mouse.

You're a brave man tearing apart a 130 dollar mouse
specialbuddy1 2 years ago 14
if you paid that much for a mouse and it squeaked you would tear it apart too, especially after sending the first one back... pretty lame. Besides that fact, its a really good mouse, and i recommend it to everyone with a small cautionary note
ahdomsayre 2 years ago 7
You're probably right, I would tear it apart. I just cringe every time plastic clips are pulled on. I want one of these pretty bad but some of the newegg comments are keeping me from dropping the money on one.
specialbuddy1 2 years ago
@ahdomsayre I wouldn't say so. Every Mamba they have given me as a replacement has had terrible tracking issues, button sticking, and nonstop crashes/random shutdowns. The Mamba sucks compared to the Deathadder, it's just a cheap way for Razer to make money, at least back with the Deathadder they put love into it.

@ahdomsayre

This works. vaseline works fine and its easy to do, the cover is a pain to get back on though.
CyrusBro 2 years ago
Your a boss! I did this and it worked like a charm. I used some Vaseline, and it is PERFECT now. It takes a bit of patience to open (mainly to close) the top portion, but other than that, just take your time and it will work! I used a REALLY small flat head for everything I did. Nice job on the tut!

hi friend can i know if we try to solve by ourself the warranty will void ?|
stevenng97 2 years ago
Hi. I'm not aware of exactly what their policy is, but the Razer rep who talked to me sent me a new mamba even after seeing this video, and I feel that Razer is also very frustrated by this problem and would understand your attempts to fix it. I also read on another forum that one of the Razer reps "recommended" not doing any work on the mouse by yourself, but that doesn't sound like a statement claiming a warranty breach if you did.
ahdomsayre 2 years ago
Awesome video! Mine started squeaking today and it drove me nuts! Watched your video and fixed it, thanks for posting it! :)
Kaine09 2 years ago
Just to let everyone know, the customer satisfaction rep from Razer emailed me under 24 hours after I posted this video stating his apologies about this issue with the mamba and got some of my info about the mouse in order to fix this issue in the future. Hopefully he will let be getting back to me about when the issue is resolved, and I will gladly post it here again so you can all get your mouses RMA'd and actually have an untempered with and non-squeaking mamba. Thanks for watching

nice vid but I'm kind of afraid to try it. how do you get your mouse RMA'd? what does RMA stand for?:)
pawppy 2 years ago
Return Merchandise Authorization.
So if you are planning to RMA it every two weeks, then that is a viable alternative to the process in this video.
ahdomsayre 2 years ago
thanks. i'll give it a go your way
pawppy 2 years ago
Nice video, great help.
But here is a suggestion, when you open the mouse don't open it from outside.
When you remove the battery you will see at the bottom side of the mouse beneath the big teflon feat 2 square wholes , just press them with the screwdriver and you will hear it them pop-out.

This is very helpful. My mamba has the same problem. I'm gonna give it a try. Thank you man!

This is AMAZING! I've been tortured by my squeaky mouse for too long. Thank you for posting this super helpful video!

I like that mamba mouses squeak. You shouldn't deprive them of their only joy in life. They lead a life of abusive clicks and it's not even their fault, it's windows fault... you might as well have just taken away their lights... -_- lol
